nice, looks like well have a full 6 days to read up on reviews and decide on which card to get, 5090 reviews coming up on 24-Jan! https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-5090-reviews-go-live-january-24-rtx-5080-on-january-30 -

congratz on the better bin 9800X3D 🙂 yeah the Suprim SOC seems to have the largest total volume out of all cards with known dimensions thus far. its about 10% larger in total volume than the 4090 Suprim and a tad (0.8%) chunkier than the Astral. absolutely humongous 😄 wouldnt be too sure if my budget will be enough...after all thats happened i always expect the worst when it comes to new GPU launches, ugh....heres to hoping tho. -

fun fact: theres no Strix 5090 this time around, so ud have to go with the new Astral 😄 yup, right on with the price estimates. here in europe the 5090 MSRP (including tax) will be 2329€. my max budget is 3300€, but im hoping to snag a Suprim SOC or Astral for max. 2700/2800€, then Id be content. -

yeah, just based on RT / CUDA cores, max. theoretical jump would be +33%. the rest will depend on the memory speed sensitivity of the respective software (5090 at +78% bandwidth vs. 4090) and the overclocking capabilities of the 5090. im hoping that the stock clocks do not point towards less maximum clocks, but rather the physical restraints of the dual slot FE design. Heres to hoping that we can use the humongous third party coolers for better clocks! 🙂 -

so far, all 5090 models including the FE only have one power connector, unfortunately... getting a 5090 on launch day will require, as usual, a bit of luck and some elbow grease. best to take at least a half day off to do some thorough gpu hunting, whether it be in person or online 😄 -

yup also got newer gen cables on my watchlist for my TX-1600 PSU. currently prepping my ebay auction for the 4090, very curious to see how the 12-pin socket held up, havent really checked it recently.....what could go wrong running it with a 1kW vbios as daily amirite 😛 😄 -

its hilarious, i was talking to my cousin this summer, hes a total car nut. he was like: soooo...u got a good education, great job, travel a lot, why the heck do you drive around in a POS junk pile?! he also knows a bit about pc components so i just replied with what im currently sporting in my rig, he just laughed his butt off 😄 funny thing is: hes exactly the other way around, has both a highend motorbike and a car but a PC that basically just does its job. my POS pile of junk does the same, gets me from A to B 😄 to each their own priorities in life hahaha -

which is fine, as long as we can find a way to cross-flash vbios versions 😛 besides, its more up to Nvidia and less the board partners if and what you can do in XOC.... edit: interesting to see that the MSI Lightning Air follows a similar approach as the ASUS Astral, with push/pull fan configs. but then again, if the lightning is even MORE expensive than the Astral, ugh... i can take a bit of an upsell over the FE MSRP, but i wont take a thousand extra USD / EUR just because its ASUS / MSI lightning 😄 -

agreed on MSI Suprim SOC and Asus Astral skus, they look to be the most interesting. Im suspecting most "gamerboiz" will be chasing after the Asus cards, so both availability and MSRP should be horrendous. Thats why I'll likely go with MSI again, especially if their power delivery is again superior to other cards. -

yup, for me it was just elbow grease, had like 10 different reputable online shops open at the same time and kept refreshing for about 1.5 hours before i got something i was happy with. ill do the same approach this time around 😄 soooo, whos got their wallets ready? here comes a statement that only very few will get behind / not lock me up for being insane: BOI am i glad the 5090 turned out to be rather CHEAP and on the LOWER side of the rumoured price ranges! now i got more than enough wallet buffer to snatch a nice AIB card 🙂 (not really interested in the FEs, they always look fancy and come with some new type of cooling ideas but in the end they only provide juuuust enough cooling to run the cards at stock with a slight overclock. this will be even more true on the 2-slot 575W 5090 this time around lulz) -

makes sense, theyre probably collecting high-binned chiplets for the high core count X3D parts. boy what a "trade-in" that is 😄 yeah thats blown outta proportion it seems. HUB tested it and its mainly just due to the filter option. switch that off and ure good to go 🙂 -
i saw this thread pop up and my very first thought was: oh, that reminds me of @Khenglish and his previous / legendary 980 / 1080 core swaps! then I saw the OP: OF COURSE ITS KHENGLISH! 😄

welp i can take care of the europe side of things, also got an AM5 delidder handy 😄 i feel ya, iirc it took me like 60-70 repetitions to get mine off. its a bit of a chore, but definitely straight forward process 🙂 -

funny timing, Jufes just did a comparison of all three (stock IHS, HP IHS, direct die): delid + stock IHS = no difference HP IHS + paste = -5C HP IHS + LM = -10C direct die = -20C -

i know EXACTLY the position ure in, i got my build right before our little one came along, as well haha 😄 get in all the building and tuning u can before ure a dad! nice, so hows the experience with the P5800X so far? how does it compare with a regular SSD as an OS drive? does it actually provide any real life difference? -

yeps, remembered correctly! its still unoptimized though, had been planning to shave down the plastic standoffs for proper cold plate contact, and now its a year later (damn, having a kid REALLY kicks you in the balls in terms of having time for hobbies lol). anyways, planning to get me another one due to their improved manufacturing, and with 9950X3D around the corner, might as well do all that in combo with a fresh windows install and the 5090 🙂 lemme know what ur findings are! noice, pls some more deetz switching from regular flash SSDs to the P5800X, im highly interested 🙂 which capacity / sku are u sporting? how much did u get it for? -

if the 9950X behaves anything similar to the 7950X after delidding and bare die cooling, the temp drop should be quite substantial: -

what goes through my head when i read Zen6 in late 2026/27: AM5 promise by AMD goes until "2027+", so best to push Zen6 right up until that point to avoid having to include ANOTHER gen on AM5 😛 keeping their promise but doing everything they can to offer less by it.... -

noice, good to see theres still some wiggle room in going with different sticks 🙂 fixed voltage FTW for multicore benches, but once u want the max single thread performance theres no way around PBO shenanigans unfortunately.
