  1. Thanks for pointing out the details guys! Without you we wouldn't be able to catch certain things due to either my or Hiews use habits. I do ask that you have patience with us as we had to put quite a few things on hold IRL in order to make what we have at the moment before Nbr was taken from us. I assure you all that we will be looking into every post made here as soon as we can.
  2. We may not respond well today and tomorrow due to irl factors but I am reading the suggestion threads and considering each one for internal discussion.
  3. There aren't any issues that I am aware of but that being said we wouldnt be able to fight take down notices either. I cant recall if t456 is on the forums, I havent personally looked over the list of members but would be happy to have him.
  4. I appreciate the kind words, I really do. I hate the circumstances that culminated in our current events at the same time still in a state of shock that it both happened as well as we even have this platform now. I am an average bloke who makes an effort to understand, that is all that I can claim. @Aaron44126is the real star here who took point on archiving NotebookReview, I am not sure how the relationship between himself and @Sandy Bridgeculminated, perhaps (likely) organically, providing a (what seemed to be) homebrewed application to save all those thousands (millions, I believe) of posts. I only assisted to some degree. Even with the forum that we have now, if @Hiewdidnt already have a cursory interest in communities and forums that reaches beyond a decade he wouldnt have been able to drum up a forum that is worth using and I would have nothing to offer and simply watch the clock until NBR was gone. All the mentioned names above have had much more of a tangible effect on the result that we have now. Its not perfect, and there is more work to be done, but all I did was facilitate to the best of my abilities, and will continue to do so, so long as I have the privilege to do so. I could never fill in the shoes that Charles left behind, wish he was around. Maybe that will change in the future, hopefully it does even for a little while.
  5. There was also the school of thought that dark modes were easier on cell batteries. I never verified it myself but the surface thought process made sense.
  6. Because we still have a lot of work to do lol
  7. I have been thinking of a kind of subtext for the forums, not sure if anyone would like it/care for it. So I kept it to myself. Old standards, new era Also we have a few more of the old guard posting here so be sure to spread the love guys! Honestly it's surprising to hear the NBR staff be so candid. I'm sure in some ways it may be a bit of a relief to be able to air your grievances.
  8. What about external drives connected via internal DATA and POWER :3
  9. This is one of the reasons why I put the Notebook Manufacturers into a sub-forum. I would like to expand other genre's into the forum as many users here have a desktops or simply have opinions they would like to share that wouldnt fit in the purely laptop category. For now if you want to open a thread in the desktop sub-forum just to get the ball rolling then we may have it moved into a dedicated spot after we spend more time figuring out structure :)
  10. It would be one thing if they pointed towards a location that actually made sense. LTT does a lot of good in the pc space but never really earned the credo for laptops, same goes for reddit and/or Tom's hardware. There is(was) only one place for that, it is(was) nbr! 😞
  11. This is a notice of a new rule we're putting in place and enforcing now. "Vendor shilling, whether compensated or not, is strictly prohibited on the forum, including in WNSIB, and will be cause for permanent ban." Using/encouraging users to advertise manufacturers and/or resellers is prohibited. There is nothing wrong with an honest recommendation or having preference, but there is a difference between that and advertising/vendor shilling. All users are encouraged to report this behavior to a moderator. Examples of user-vendor shilling: 1) Repeated unwarranted/unasked recommendation of specific sites/resellers. Examples include "success stories" of sales, phone numbers and/or direct contact with sellers promoted, promotional messages like referencing (discounts etc). 2) "I just bought this from X company" topics Making a thread about a vendor experience only is prohibited. You are encouraged to participate and enrich the community, but we don't discriminate where you bought your machine from. 3) Vendor specific services When a user’s help and support of the community is only offered to specific vendor buyers, this can make said user to be considered as Company Representative and/or Vendor Shilling. This is prohibited. Moderators will review reported posts as well as behavior to determine if the rule has been broken, and in cases will approach offending users when needed.
  12. If I ever meet you guys, goes without saying, first round is on me.
  13. Exactly, it will take time to rebuild but our lot is quite stubborn and we enjoy shining lights on details that manufacturers might otherwise ignore :)
  14. I dont know about a formal migration due to potential legal issues. Without further illumination of the options on the table my best case hope would be to have it included in the official / Owners lounge threads but still being hosted off site.
  15. I'll draw some attention to this @Hiew so he can look at some options (one of which you provided in the OP).
  16. Manufacturers are aligned vertically within the Manufacturers sub-forum, as well as operating systems having their own sub-forums under software. Looking at Software, it looks like there is potential for refinement. The difference as it stands currently is likes also contribute to REP, removing the limit leaves it open to abuse. I dont believe we intend to keep this as is, long term. As we had other priorities that were time sensitive.
  17. Stay tuned for the archives as we were able to capture most of the relevant portions of the forum :)
  18. Been debating a system to give Linux a full time shot, probably helps to have basic support so I dont rip my hair out. I have an XPS 9365 , nice little machine. I have Manjaro on it right now iirc
  19. A moment of silence for the loss of our old home, NotebookReview. As they have been officially taken down. That is all, for now.
  20. Another detail to add is that its present in dark mode (the thumbs up) but in the default it seems to share the same color as its background for me. Archive is looking to be wrapped up with the end of NBR coming, so we will be able to more carefully look at some elements here on the forum for review.
  21. The fact that I can't operate at higher levels of efficiency over time with only a few hours of sleep bothers me. The other thing that bothers me is also the fact that I enjoy sleeping more than I should. 😕 Gonna take a nap and figure it out later 😄
  22. Announced that this was a goal very early on in this forum. This has been something I wish to emulate as well, but havent been able to do as a function of time and means.
  23. I had edited the forum rules and I thought I had it posted but it seems this was incorrect. For now I have them posted in the same location as the Marketplace Rules until a better home can be determined.
  24. Yep just noticed this, at some point here we will need to make a sub-forum that expands on suggestions for members to formally display how certain elements dont jive or simply dont work. Its good that is also pointed out here, but I fear it could get lost in the noise when a specific function is being articulated.
