Interesting, that gets me excited. So from your testing, how high were you able to push ddr5 at the stock 1.1v? Would be cool to hit at least 6000mhz. If I cannot, I want to see if I can at least lower timings at stock clocks and voltage. Here's the hidden options (no idea if they will work): there's also "dynamic memory boost" and "realtime memory frequency" options -

Funny you mention that, the m18 has a 4th fan specifically inside, pushing air to the RAM lol From what I can see online, 5600Mhz is the fastest SODIMM available. One reasoning apperently is there is some flaw with DDR5 SODIMM in design that doesn't let it hit 6000mhz or something? Idk, desktop RAM starting with DDR4 surpassed laptop speeds and DDR5 is making it worse. I remember DDR3 on laptops was basically on par with desktop speeds. -

People have the 32GB (2x16GB) kit running at 5600mhz and the 64gb (2x32gb) kit running at 5200mhz out of the box on alienware m18. Since I found how to modify the hidden values in bios I should be able to run 5600mhz on the 64gb kit. AW claims it supports up to 5800mhz RAM so maybe I can OC, we'll see -

Interesting, I will take a look at both RAM modules tomorrow. I assume the markings on the IC chips should tell me which die they are? -

Yes so-dimm. We've figured out how to "turn on and off" hidden options in BIOS so XMP should at least work. (the bios has an insane amount of hidden options including memory tuning so we are hoping to unlock these options) Timings should be at least the same if not better than the 4800mhz ram kit so hoping to boost the cpu scores. -

Question on RAM... Will DDR5 5600Mhz CL40 make a nice difference over 4800Mhz CL40 on 13th gen? Looking at timespy/fire strike cpu score, cinebench r23, etc. I mean I already ordered the RAM LOL just was curious BTW how is everyone getting windows 7 working on 13th gen? Is it just turning on CSM? I would assume drivers aren't easily available. -
I'm still on BIOS 1.5.0 om my Area-51m R1 (they're at like 1.12 or 1.14 or something now) I will do the same on m18 if they decide to pull some stuff on us. TCC offset is optional so far and has been on previous models too. There are a lot of options in m18 bios that are hidden so hopefully we figure out how to unlock them. Man now I am debating on whether I want to do mines.

M11xR3/M14xR2/M17xR4/M18xR2 was their "peak" generation for sure. m18 has similar build quality to Area-51m , which is why I bought it. No other AW between Area-51m to m18 gen came close. Every laptop I've dealt with has issues at launch. This time around it seems while they meant good by using liquid metal, it actually made things worse for us due to bad contact. Other than that, everything else is not bad. Screen is very good despite people complaining 300nits, performance is right there with the top scores except for CPU overheaing. I even have UV working now and XMP looks like it will be perfectly fine too. What happen? This definitely doesn't make me wanna do it to mine now lol
-
Unfortunately there's no gaming laptop that doesn't require some sort of tweaking for proper performance, not even Clevo. Yeah for now we are working on unlocking options in bios. We got UV working. XMP is next and hopefully hidden menus. 10c core difference ain't getting fixed with UV. Will need phase change pad for that.
-
It's not about getting a "better unit" I can even tune my friends m18 and get similar results. I even found a way to unlock UV in bios so prepare for even better numbers. This is where the difference between an enthusiast will start to show 😃
-
cpu can hit at least 200w (I've gotten 200w so far but looks like it can keep going) hopefully in a few days I'll have some results to share. the stock paste job definitely doesn't help.

The Beast Returns - Alienware m18 - i9 13980HK 24c/RTX 4090 Mobile
ssj92 replied to ssj92's topic in Alienware 18 and M18x
Better than the $235 I paid last year for mine. W10 works fine for me all drivers -
Cost is $559. This is currently the fastest card for M18xR2 working

It works for changing power limits but when i try UV the CPU gets locked at 5x multiplier. so no UV yet but bios has options and xtu does have a lot of options. -

So your CPU also hits 100c instantly and thermal throttles it seems? Looks like AW made a bad choice going with liquid metal on the cpu. They should have stuck to paste or a phase change pad. My friends m18 isn't high pitch so that's interesting. Mine comes tomorrow so let's see if it also hits 100c. -
I'm good now. My laptop comes tomorrow, super excited. I ordered honeywell ptm7958 phase change paste and I already have honeywell ptm7950 phase change pads. From my experience, these are the best for laptop thermals. If mine also hits 100c like that then the liquid metal is definitely not making proper contact. I may test on my x14 first but we'll see. I bought 32gb 4800mhz ram but will be curious because it says it supports 5600mhz and 5800mhz xmp. Personally I am waiting for the 48GB DIMMs to become available so I can do 96GB RAM upgrade. I might try 1TB RAID0 (2x1TB) to see if both 2280 slots are wired to CPU. Should get 10-14gbps speeds if it works.

Wonder if they have eDP support

Something is definitely wrong with 13th gen mobile results right now. Even @Prema OC 13900HX gets 22k cpu score which isn't much more than those lower core count : https://www.3dmark.com/spy/36096687 My laptop is coming Thursday so I'll get to properly play around with it

Does anyone have i9 13900K/KS + RTX 4080 that can run a stock timespy and firestrike run? Or anyone got a link to one that is for sure a stock run with said hardware? Also it looks like newer Win11 build gets lower scores than older builds/win 10? is that true? -
Some quick runs on my friends m18. Still waiting for mine: [last run before he left: https://www.3dmark.com/spy/36889484 ]

amd Ryzen 9 7945HX beats i9 13980HX in multi-core while using less power

He had the exact same issues. insane amount of light bleed horrible coil whine not so great build quality cpu performance not good. I mean I don’t expect the m18 to be trouble free either but I’m sure it’ll have a lot more options- 35 replies

There should be a “thanks” button on my videos that allows you to tip. Other option is on my older videos (such as area-51m review) there should be a paypal donate link. the 18” laptops we get today are not the same as the older 18.4” models. The new ones are smaller, have a smaller screen, so they’re not as big as people may think. I plan to compare the size to my area-51m and m-18x. From the dimensions it’s similar to area-51m in size more than m18x. with the 15% off coupon the 4090 model isn’t much more expensive than 4080 models with tax. It’s definitely worth the upgrade especially the vram alone.
