  1. I was thinking of going Corsair Hydro XR7 480mm X2 along with their D5 pump/res combo and an EK water block since there's only like 2 water blocks for lga 4677. Looks like HWLabs is good too. Any recommendations for pump/res combo? If i went 2x480mm would a single pump/res combo be enough or would 2 be better? I was going to get the Corsair Hydro X hardline 14mm tubing along with the gold fitting pack but I'm all ears to what is good these days. I think 2x480mm radiators on top and 8 noctua fans should still be quiet enough and cool this thing better than the current air cooler easily. EDIT: Apparently the XR7 from Corsair is built by HWLabs (GTX Nemesis OEM). I'm also debating on whether I want to go hardline tubing this time and or just get soft tubing. This is what I was looking at originally:
  2. Looks like I got the CPU for $1,195 plus tax, not bad considering a 285K is like $600. If you got 34xx/35xx CPU definetely get the sage motherboard. I've never seen so many BIOS options ever in any other board. Also you get octa-channel. If you get the 24xx/25xx CPU then get a ASRock board for like $600. The Sage is $999, I got it for 949, but it was on sale for 899 recently. 24xx/25xx has 64 lanes, 34xx/35xx has 112 lanes. I think it's worth going 34xx/35xx because every pcie slot is 5.0 x16 (except one @ x8 only because you get two M.2 PCIe 5.0 x4 slots). I don't think the wife would let me have a chiller in the living room LOL. But I do want to do a custom loop. I've only done a custom loop once, but I'm assuming having 4x 480mm radiators would still be beneficial over 2 x480mm radiators? Or does it reach a diminishing returns?
  3. I figured since we're having our first baby in February now is the time for me to build my beast before it's too late lol. I bought a Intel Optane P5800X 400GB SSD (U.2 form factor). It has the Dell EMC branding. Got it from eBay, it was brand new. Cost me $450 which is expensive but I'm using it as a boot drive. Thinking of going ASUS Hyper M.2 4x card for 4x NVMe drives RAID0 or RAID0+1 for my secondary drive. Right now I have SK Hynix 2TB P41 and a 16TB HDD + 10TB HDD (WD Red/WD Gold). My motherboard has SlimSAS ports so I bought a SlimSAS to U.2 cable. It shows up in bios/windows as any ordinary NVMe drive. You can even get a M.2 to U.2 adapter as well. The P5800X is a PCIe 4.0 x4 drive, it's the last/fastest Optane drive made as far as I am aware. I only install OS/Apps on the Optane drive. Everything else will go to the other SSD. There's also the P1600X which is essentially the same thing running at PCIe 3.0 x4 instead. It also has the latest Optane memory as well. Did you get the EVGA SR-3 motherboard? I was debating on going that + W-3175X early in the year but figured I'd wait and glad I did. I'm keeping my SR-2 build, the MB is awesome. Yes Sage is Octa-core. I went with Corsair WS DDR5 ECC RDIMM 128GB (8 x 16GB) DDR5 DRAM 5600MT/s CL40 Memory Kit. I'm running the XMP profile @ 5600Mhz for now which seems to be perfectly stable. Haven't really tried going higher than that yet. With 8-channels the bandwidth is already insane. Stock clocks I get around 58C max temps in CB R23 and around 43K score. The 55K score was at all core 4.1Ghz or 4.0Ghz (forgot which one). At 4.0/4.1Ghz I am hitting 82C temps so I'm already reaching the Noctua NH-U14S DX-4677 limit. I'm seeing 548W peak cpu power. This is all on stock voltage with no increases yet. I can probably daily this easily (especially since right now I only have 1 case fan lol). Case is Corsair 9000D and I plan to buy like 16 Noctua fans later to give it some airflow. Also might go water cooling with 2x480mm radiators at least. PSU is Corsair HX1500i. I got the CPU for less than half of its MSRP. That's kind of how it all started. It was used but it works fine. I had a license of Windows Server 2025 Datacenter so I thought, why not? LOL I'm surprised how similar they made it to the LTSC style builds. Audio was already active, didn't need to do too many registry edits. No MS Store either.
  4. Ah what a roller-coaster it's been. Bought Z790 + 14900K to replace 10980XE + X299 Returned 14900K and bought 12700K as stop-gap for Z890. Bought Core Ultra 9 285K on release with no MB. Returned the Core Ultra 9 285K, sold Z790+12700K system. Bought Xeon W7-3465X + W790 ASUS SAGE MB and the money has been draininngggggggggg But so happy I'm back in HEDT land...lol Just a teaser, I'm probably gonna need liquid cooling instead of my Noctua cooler. This is exactly what I am experiencing. Especially with the Optane P5800X drive. Everything feels so smooth.
  5. It is 100% working in PEG. I can use everything even ray tracing. It can keep up with M18xR2. M2000M in primary and RTX 5000 in secondary allows it to use latest drivers too.
  6. M18xR1 with RTX 5000: M18xR2 with RTX 5000:
  7. Hi, question. Did you do basic INF mod or was there special driver mod needed? Can I download any driver from nvidia site and modify INF to make it work?
  8. My A4500 heatsink will probably work for M18x series but it seems these cards aren't recognized at all in those laptops.
  9. Take a picture of the vBIOS chip up close and see what chip it is. Your program shows generic 1 kbit which is incorrect. I personally use ASProgramer
  10. GP106 Compute card RTX 3000 (Aetina/AdLink) RTX 5000 (HP) Can all work with SG mode but limited to DX11 and older titles. I have RTX 5000 working in M18xR1
  11. They're all backwards compatible. The real question will be if the RTX 4050 is wired for eDP and has proper firmware for it too. LVDS should work if the card doesn't have a weird issue like my A4500 did. Where it may need resizable bar/above 4g decoding
  12. If that 4050 is anything like A4500 was, then you are going to have a hard time getting it recognized. I recommend SG mode in M17xR4. And if that doesn't work, try my M18xR1 trick. Use M18xR2, primary slot a gpu that works in PEG and then gpu2 will be RTX 4050. Good luck
  13. This is a universal issue right now for M17xR3 & M18xR1 when using SG (Optimus mode). RTX 3000 & RTX 5000 both have this issue for me too when I use SG mode. Basically the card can only render DX11 and older. DX12 and newer doesn't work for some reason (which is weird because newer laptops with HD4000/4600 work fine). It's some weird issue with HD 3000. The other issue is...any driver after 425 when using SG mode will not allow the GPU to render. It defaults to iGPU. By using 425.XX or older drivers, the dGPU works as render card. My solution in M18xR1 was to use a nVidia GPU in primary slot (such as 680M, 780M, 880M, or M1000M/M2000M) and then the beast in slot 2 (RTX 5000). Using this method I can use everything even ray tracing. But on M17xR3 this is not possible, so we need to figure out the driver issue. https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/115357776? https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/115355471?
  14. Wow I didn't even realize you had registered here. Nice to see you around. 😁
  15. NA
  16. I have a M2000M on the way to solve the old driver issue. Going to replace 880M primary with M2000M primary so I can use the latest Quadro drivers. only thing left to fix is the heatsink. It doesn’t fit into the slot in the secondary MXM area. Needs to be bent or something. Also hits subwoofer a bit.
  17. RTX 5000 in M18xR1:[SG mode] Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2960XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 (3dmark.com) RTX 5000 in M18xR1 [PEG mode 880M Primary, RTX 5000 Secondary]: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 880M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2960XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 (3dmark.com) Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2960XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 (3dmark.com)
  18. I can use 880M, RTX 3000 so it's weird how yours doesn't work. So far these GPUs we know boot in SG mode and work somewhat: RTX 3000 GP106 (no outputs) Tesla M6 (no outputs) Has to be vBIOS issue. I just wonder how we will get it to work fully though. In SG mode only DX11 and older works. In PEG, with 880M in primary and RTX 3000 in secondary, everything works even DX12, but for some reason it's stuck at 55w. I wonder if I can do resistor mod to M18xR1 same as I did to AW 18 R1. I didn't see the R006 resistor though easily on M18xR1 motherboard.
  19. I built a new PC for myself and am giving my brother my old X299 desktop. He will have everything needed except for a GPU. If anyone has any decent spare GPUs they would be willing to let go and sell cheap let me know. Old SLI GPUs are fine too. Was thinking like.... GTX Titan X (Maxwell, Pascal, XP) GTX 1080ti, 1080, 1070 GTX 980Ti/980 [Probably want 2 in SLI?] GTX 780Ti/780/690 (maybe SLI for these) GTX 580 x2-3 GTX 480 x3-x4 Would prefer at least kepler if not maxwell, but if I can get a bunch of fermi cards I can use those for benching myself and give him a GPU from my other PC. Whoops @Reciever I posted in wrong section..should be in WTB
  20. I ran 419.67 driver and GPU is now being utilized. But I am getting VRel & VOp limitations in GPU-Z. Performance is bad: Generic VGA video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-2960XM Processor,Alienware M18xR1 (3dmark.com) @TheSin I tried 980M but it gets stuck at AW logo. It is G-SYNC Clevo model so it seems it may be vBIOS related.
  21. This is the BIOS I am running: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15hcq2MfaAzIDGlualq35v-MBnji9MXB4/view Something was changed in newer drivers, that do not play well with HD 3000 GPU it seems. We need to see what changed.
  22. Did you try the registry edit I posted above? For 6990M plus 980M combo? I'll try 980M with older 426.XX driver and see what happens. Your 780M should boot fine in SG mode so it seems you have weird issue. You can try registry mod for 6990M + 980M combo and then in windows settings choose 980M for high performance. I had same issue with 880M + RTX 3000 before I did registry mod. And also try 426.XX driver or older and see if that helps too. Seems like the 880M + RTX 3000 combo will be best for me at this rate, if I can fix the 55w tdp bug.
  23. Disabling hd 3000 makes RTX 3000 work in GPU-z render test. However , the performance is very bad. In superposition I was getting like 6-7fps on 1080p medium. I tried old driver and same issue. So you got 980M working in SG mode? that guy on eBay has native r1 mb. I talked to him. He said only dx11 works with gp106 and tesla m6. Dx12 isn’t working. But his GPUs do render fine. he said he uses an older driver. 426 is the last one that supported hd 3000 he said so maybe I’ll try an older GPU.
  24. If you have M18xR2 MB, you should be able to run everything even rtx 3000 in SG mode no problem. Did you flash M18xR1 bios onto M18xR2 MB? Maybe that's why you are having weird issues. We are using M18xR1 with original MB. I'm running SG mode. The card is recognized in bios and in windows and driver installs. However, I am unable to use the rtx 3000 for any rendering so far. Not sure why. I believe 980M will work like this too, maybe I'll give that a try. I did not turn on UEFI boot, it's still off. All I did was turn on SG mode with 880M, then swap it out for rtx 3000. Is it possible for the laptop to work properly like this if everything is recognized in windows? Or do I need to do some sort of hardware mod as well? I guess the fact that the guy on eBay has M17xR3 & M18xR1 running SG mode with GP106 & Tesla M6 tells me there is some hope. Just need to figure out why I am getting DirectX errors on 3dmark and super position. In super position, it keeps trying to use the intel hd 3000. I believe this may be happening for everything. Explains the dx11 error since hd 3000 is dx10.1 but no idea how to get around this. I tried PEG with rtx 3000 now I just have black screen, no beeps, no post, so will try SG again.
