  2. I had the exact same issue (amongst others) with my X170KM. Using performance mode and pushing the 11900k it would sometimes just shut down out of nowhere. Even undervolting and temps being within spec (max 89ish) when running a full CB23 loop it would eventually shut down so it may not be a temp issue only even when I had it pulling at max ~185w.

  5. Agreed, the icing on the cake was the socket damage. 😞 So in its current state two of the four memory channels work and you still get artifacting externally but not on the internal panel?
  6. I'm officially abandoning 4x8GB on the Strix D4. Not only does it top out at 3600 somewhat reliably but I get worse R/W speeds and latency versus 2x8GB using the same timings. (58k vs 54k / 55 vs 54) no matter what I do. I also will get odd little delays and stutters and sometimes the system will hang and decide to use the XMP timings for no reason. I have none of these problems in a 2x8GB config @ 3600. If I drop down to 3200 they go away completely but what's the point of that? 4x configs pushed just aren't there and I'm finding even 3600 tight problematic. On the plus side, CPU only pulls ~165w running CB23 after 1201 update:
  7. I've used numerous sets of cable combs from different vendors but they do come in various types from cheap and rigid to softer and better looking. You can even get different colors to spice up your RGB you love so much! 🙂
  8. I've reached a point where I install all the lighting effects and crud software on another drive I run separately just to set my themes / hardware then boot off my main for normal use. There is no way Asus should take that long to install basic software. Like Bit, I run RGBFusion when able versus their suite BS Gigabyte is now trying to force down users throats. EVGA software is pretty clean but the fact I used to have to run 4 different EVGA apps to control my items (Case, AIO, M/K and GPU) is just ridiculous but I do like the fact they don't cram an all in one solution down your throat. Unlike most of the other GPUs I used, my former KPE 3090 retained its settings even when it lost power and was completely uninstalled which was great. MSI Center isn't innocent either when I ran my Tomahawk x570. Crucial Ballistix software was beyond trash and had to be run everytime at start up to set the lighting. Just bloatware garbage for something so simple as setting RGB effects.

  10. If they purposely hinder any type of enthusiast overclocking it is a hard pass for me. I was going to pick one up and an inexpensive motherboard to play around with but this coupled with STILL existing USB issues makes this DOA IMHO.

  12. So true. For a fleeting moment there I had both the SM and the KM but having used the SM already for a few months the KM was so locked down and problematic I had to send it back. I figured I'd wait till they worked out some more of the kinks with the BIOS, memory slots and get Prema going but I think they've moved on for the most part which would be a shame if it is left as is. I agree; the icing on the cake would be a last Prema update with 11th gen enabled or a Dsanke level BIOS for the SM and KM.
  13. Buildzoid delving into the SP ratings: Large sample of 12900k and 12600k chips tested (closer to launch). Average over SP = 85. Average P cores = 93. Smile or frown at your current silicon accordingly..... 🙂

Many times pins are bent when you: Try to clean excess TIM and snag pins with the cloth/Q-tip Attempt to put the CPU in on an angle and push pins versus a flat mount Accidentally drop the chip when extracting it and it slips Inadvertently drop/hit the pins when the socket is open and vulnerable. ---------------- Did you take any pictures of the socket with the bent pins? Sorry to hear you both had bad encounters with pins. 😞 Hopefully everything turns out well enough in the end.
  16. Sounds about right. Origin was the one known for having slight modifications in their Clevo systems that would cause foreign BIOS flashes to be problematic.
  17. Yep, that type of phrasing will do it. Even that tenuous association between feedback left and getting a working board in that statement will get most negative feedback removed even if you were the clear victim in this transaction. 😢
  18. Didn't want to pony up for the full on 1600w model for future fun? 😁 My last experience with an EVGA 1300 G+ was an open box from Amazon that was clearly used for much time and clearly dead. It went right back.
  19. Buying and selling online is a constant case of due diligence and even then sometimes you can get zinged. I've been buying and selling on eBay for almost 24yrs now (yikes!) and I've definitely run into unethical buyers and sellers regardless of feedback rating. Were you able to get a working board or a refund? What the seller did was purposely lead the question after negative feedback was left. Usually they phrase it like, "What can I do to make it right and get the negative feedback removed?" Depending on how you answer they can go to ebay and claim feedback extortion. If you answered in anyway that relates to, "I'd like a working board. I would update my feedback accordingly" that is definitely going to end with Feedback removal. The right way to answer is, "Feedback has nothing to do with this so please do not involve it in our communication" or similar.

All you can do is make sure, as a seller, to document everything and when you list it take clear pictures front and back, list exactly and make sure to do bench marks, GPU-Z, HWInfo, etc... and post a full screen shot showing time and date that it works. You can also say you will doing one more QA run after bought so the seller (and ebay) has full proof the card is in 100% working order. Once boxed up, take a picture of the package to send to the buyer so they know what to expect. ship via USPS and make sure it has insurance and signature required if you want double protection. Make sure to use eBay's shipping generation services for an extra layer. Make sure to state you are not responsible for incompatibilities so please message if you're not sure. You could say "seller does not accept returns" but if they open a case that it is defective or not as described they are most likely going to get a refund out of it. Of course if you say 30 day return policy they can return it for any reason including incompatibilities. Even after someone purchases it, if you have no confidence or zero confidence in the buyer it is worth it to take a potential feedback strike and cancel the sale versus send it off. I've messaged some buyers and asked specific questions to make sure they know what they're doing and which system. Which make and model of 980m is it and how much are you asking?

Max fans allow from the onset optimal cooling so you know at peak what your system is capable of dissipating since ramp up can sometimes be outpaced initially by thermals and you'll potentially get pockets of thermal throttling and the system may step down the frequency never to regain it in some situations. You may find yourself in some runs thinking your system can't handle it when it is really the fans playing catch up. It's the best way to know if your system is up to snuff if pushed to max. Later on you can play with fan tables to dial in a preferred curve. A few users ran their P870TM1's + 9900k's direct die with some mods and had absolutely fantastic results on NBR. I suspect you could achieve similar with an X170KM/SM.
  22. With the model and approach Nvidia is taking I wouldn't be surprised if a 1000w PSU is the minimum for their top end model and depending on the rest of your components a >=1200w PSU might be in play. If you're a serious overclocker running top end hardware, 1500w+ PSUs are the norm now.
  23. When I moved from an SN750 to an SN850 (same 500GB capacity) I felt zero difference. I mean benchmarks...sure but real world? Nope. As for 4000 series, there really is no choice if this is the direction Nvidia is going. Ada is going to be even more monstrously hungry and there is no way to cram that commercial liner in a Cessna hanger. They seem to be taking the Intel approach. Plus smaller chassis and Nvidia failing to even offer higher wattage offerings that at least match the 200w TDP of the 2080 isn't helping.
