See if the 2200 can handle a 90 min TM5 and an hour of Karhu at least. Worst case, fun benches. Best case, stable D2D at 2200! Agreed, 9000 series runs cooler and better than 7000. I had a 9950x3d ready for checkout on BB, but just couldn't justify it but 9800X3D vs my old 7800X3D it is much better across the board in every aspect. I can just imagine how much better the 9950X3D would be vs my old 7950X3D and the 7950X3D was known for running cooler and better than the 7950X. When you lop off its head, results are gonna be quite nice! Looking forward to some memory/cpu comparison data of the 7950X vs your 9950X3D.

As time is passing, ditto. Like I said, I'm lacking that normal razzle dazzle I have when new GPUs drop. I am noticing pre-builts w/5090's are now staying in stock usually for hours if not all day. That's another sign of demand shrinking but more importantly, yanking the GPU to sell on its own is no longer outright profitable in lieu of the entire system cost. Skytech's 5090 pre-built was available on BB for the last few days w/ 285k + 5090 for $4899.99 which isn't super terrible either pricing wise compared to others.

But all is well that ends well , good energy and you were rewarded with MSRP and a 5090 FE bro. 🙂 .....once you swap out that power cable and coolant color, your system is gonna be 100% righteous! 🤣

Nvidia should be absolutely ashamed of themselves for this: On one hand, the 5070 is 10% less than the 4070 Super MSRP, but damn.... From the 5090 on down (aka the entire 5000 stack), less is more and each step down the performance gains are less and less compared to 4000 vs 3000 but at least Nvidia: Kept the same price for the 4080 super -> 5080 (after learning their lesson with the original $1200 launch price of the 4080) Dropped the actual price by 10% for both the 5070/5070ti MSRP vs 4070 Super / 5070ti Super While 5090 owners get the biggest uplift, it is only ~30-35% AND 5090 owners really took it in the pills compared to the 4090 price wise even FE vs FE ($1600 vs $2000) and then it scales up even worse cost wise. Still processing even Asus 4090 Strix $2k vs $3359 5090 Astral. Paying ~68% more for ~30-35% uplift. damn. I think this is my general lethargy with the 5000 series atm.... It's gotta be an FE or price wise as close as possible to make it make sense.

3060 -> 3090 is a MONSTER upgrade! That's a nice rig setup especially for a 12yr old. He can basically play every title out there comfortably. What are his top 3 favorite games to play? Clearly he likes VR 🤣 His rig kind of sounds like my daughter's new incoming rig: 12900k, 6400 32GB, z790i Asrock Lightning. Only thing in flux is the GPU but it will end up being either a 9070xt or a used 7900xtx at this rate lol. Still want to upgrade my nephew's rig I hooked him up with simply because he is so kind and still grateful and loves that thing (12100 + A380 w/ 32GB 3600 DDR4 on an Asrock Pro B660M).

Only 5% slower at 1440p and 4k vs 5070ti is fantastic. Once MSRP normalizes (and it will at this tier sooner than later), the 9070xt is just an absolute banger of a card. AMD marketshare and sales have been bonkers so far overall with the 9070xt. Ugh crocs, how to completely lower the value of an Asus Astral 5090 from ~$3500 to 0....... 😂

So give it a run! Can't hide behind the beautiful but admittedly stunted heatsink/fan. It is what it is. Can't use lighter/select loads to hit certain clocks and post. Start running some common benchmarks so we can see where it lands. Put fans on 100% and let 'er rip! Then if/when you block it or open it up to improve the stock cooling, you'll really be able to see what differences you get. ---- That listing has scam written all over it. Remember they can also desolder the GPUs and memory from 5090s too. Any 5090 I bought second hand would have to be from someone I know or someone with an active positive sell record that is very recent. Locally, I would definitely need to see it in action before I paid for it and it would only be digitally paid for never cash. I just don't have a real, pressing urgency for a 5090. I can't explain it, but I'm nowhere near as pumped/excited this time around. I've already turned down what? 3 now? It will have to be an in the moment actual card I want for me to pick it up and even then I might say no. I do enjoy seeing everyone's results and excitement over scoring one though.

Yeah, my 5080 FE makes basically no noise but if you put a phone or pick up device right on it I can finally hear something on playback and that's it. I know exactly what you're talking about with that constant screeching/changing pitch coil whine. That was my 3090 FE and why I had to sell it off. It was literally making me sick to my stomach it was so bad. 3070 FE was nearly as bad so it had to go too. I did not know that about the 12VHPWR cable, hmmmm. I'll be curious to see how it stacks up against your Gene. That's more like it! If you want a true assessment of its clocks run something like TSE and maxed out Wukong demo to see where they properly settle. 5000 series owners are reporting the newest drivers are allowing higher clock settings on their cards. That's exactly where you want your out of box stock boost clocks to be (~2715-~2805mhz), so everything is looking good!

Congrats! It really is the greatest swansong to EVGA. (Shakes fist at Nvidia). Yeah, that was the first thing I noticed were your clocks seemed to not really be boosting like they should. I know my 5080 FE runs stock out of the box from 2715-2800 so something was wonky. Everything looks great though! Seriously though.... ....how's the coil whine and noise? 🙂

Just a little...... 🤣 --- I agree with you 100% on the coolers and engineering. I think the fuss is the AIB models run much cooler overall (all the engineering in the world can't defeat thermodynamics). If you do decide to block it (I wouldn't personally), you will see an astronomical difference in temps on the 5090 FE blocked vs unblocked. I just really like the look, build, fit and finish on the FE models and at $2k? Yes please. @tps3443 I was watching your initial OC of the 5090 FE video you posted..... Gotta get those OC clocks up man! I saw a max of ~2722....we need to see 2900+ at a min. 🤣 Do a CP2077 or Wukung bench to see where it really wants to go stock and OC. Were you capping the fps somewhere? Hows the coil whine on it?

Sheesh, looks like a nice one! I love it when I spin the wheel on another sample and it's markedly better than the first (I'm looking at you 9800X3D, 11900k, 8086k). It was the string of subpar 12900k's and the "return shuffle" that moved me into picking up binned only samples for 13th and 14th. I had to play the shuffle again with the 9800X3D and I did not enjoy that at all..... Let's see the BIOS screenies for both! I've backed off my OC'ing a lot compared to years ago but now it's all about dialing in the CPU for best ppw (where does the chip fall of the cliff power wise and backing off of that a touch and really dialing it in) along with really getting into memory tuning which can really effect game performance sometimes more than frequency overclocking. Quiet computing is very important to me but I do give a large bit of leeway to laptops when under load. But I will still push my hardware to test it and get some benchmarks because yeah! Then I return it to its D2D config. I'm probably one of the few, but I actually prefer the "borg like" look of soft tubing lol. Don't get me wrong, I like the look of hardline tubing, but something about the naturally generated curves and bends of soft tubing do it for me.

Right? I love LOVE the look and feel of the 5090/5080 FE (They're identical externally FYI). Personally, aesthetically speaking, it works better in an all black case with minimal RGB (let's the Logo stand out). With just the GPU and ROG lit up in my system, it gives it such an industrial Blade Runner look. Your blacked out MB complements it very well, but that white gpu power cable is nails on a chalkboard to me lol.

Whew, 9070xt GPU score is right there neck and neck with the 7900xtx for raster stock for stock (assuming the top middle score is pure stock). Still stings being in the queue for the $599.99 9070xt and them selling out....😭

I have no desire for any other cards except the FE, Suprim or Astral aka small, medium and large in pricing choices. AMD did say they made gains in RT with RDNA4 and they weren't lying. It flat out beats the 7900xtx while also being within respectable distance of it with raster. Bring on the 9070xtx w/ 24GB for "$749.99" ---------------------------- Oh, and MSI 18" Raider is now $5099.99 for the 9950HX3D w/ 5090.... Looks like they did away with the Steelseries KB too so might have to run their Mystic Light software.....eww.

9800X3D tuned to the bone and seeing 99% GPU utilization in Dornogal for the first time ever 4k Ultra 10 RT enabled w/ the 5080. With this setup, so many spots the 5080 is being capped at 99% vs the 14900KS even with player data which usually hits the CPU/RAM pretty hard causing utilization to drop. The better the CPU and tuned the DDR5, the better utilization is with player data in WoW. I have some spots in the game I benchmark in Hallowfall which removes player data/CPU bottlenecks naturally and can cap out a 4090 even to 99% easily. That's where I tested to realize the 4090 is ~10-12% faster than the 5080 in WoW stock for stock. Definitely want a 5090 to see who wins the cap out wars. I also want to test a 9070xt against my 7900xtx data especially with RT on. @win32asmguy

The whole idea of a 5090D is a farce. Once the full tilt cards / systems are out of Nvidia and AIB hands, there is no way to stop them from getting into China. You could even restrict the cards to US and they would STILL find a way into China. --- I absolutely agree with your take on the XOC vbios @Papusan but again what I said still stands in tandem with it. Just go grab the cheapest 5090 then and enjoy. Block it for some extra kick and slap on a chiller for a bit more and enjoy. Hope to get some good silicon and really enjoy! There's no rule that says anyone is entitled to the XOC vBIOSes out there. Nowhere are AIBs advertising them to buyers. It sucks, but it is what it is to assume by buying the card you suddenly have a right to a special vBIOS made for competitions or targeted OC'ers. And yes, I would like to have access to it but I understand why if I am unable to gain access to it. tl;dr It is what it is. Either buy the 5090 or don't. 🙂 ------------- 5090 vs 9070xt....cause...why not? 5090 obviously wins but price:performance the 9070xt is still a banger and some of the game results really don't have the 5090 crushing it like you would expect.
