  1. I wish this was a 13900k lol. It's just my original 12900k overclocked from 4.9 all core to 5.3 all core and that is where it hits a wall. I am going to go back in and do per core to see how fast I can get 1-3 cores topping out. I'm seriously contemplating finishing out my parts list to do a small loop and a delid. I want to see where this 4090 bottoms out in WoW and like I said before, I haven't even reached end game which is just brutal on CPUs. I'm CPU bound just in questing zones.
  2. Still CPU bound but 12900k 4.9ghz vs 5.3ghz all core = 138fps vs 133fps average along with static spot 130 vs 140 along with an overall increase to 1% low and max fps. Still bouncing off of 100% During flight point tests and GPU never gets past 90% utilization versus the 7900XTX and 3080 10GB which were locked into 99-100% the entire time. I'm sure a decent 13900ks would bring it home since WoW likes single or at most dual core frequencies at best.
  3. The boards are identical so a block for the air cooled model would fit the liquid cooled model too fortunately. I just didn't realize till just now there are two different versions of the Hybrid model.
  4. Suprim back in stock in NE: https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-4090-rtx-4090-suprim-liquid-24g/p/N82E16814137779?Item=N82E16814137779&Description=4090&cm_re=4090-_-14-137-779-_-Product&quicklink=true Looks like MSI makes *2* versions of the Suprim Liquid. Liquid: https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-4090-rtx-4090-suprim-liquid-24g/p/N82E16814137779?Item=N82E16814137779&Description=4090&cm_re=4090-_-14-137-779-_-Product&quicklink=true Liquid X: https://www.newegg.com/msi-geforce-rtx-4090-rtx-4090-suprim-liquid-x-24g/p/N82E16814137759?Item=N82E16814137759 Liquid X is their "OC" model apparently:
  5. Depends on the title and settings but RT is here and will continue to grow in importance and adoption. Do you need RT to play a game? No, but then again you don't need high graphics settings or resolution either. If just playing the game is the standard, set it to 720p, low everything and have it run on almost everything from the last 10yrs. For example, when I was in between cards a few years ago, I was limping along with my GTX 1060 playing at 4k in WoW on low settings. Playable? Yes but visually an eye sore compared to how it can and should look for the full immersive experience and lush visuals. When I got my KPE 3090 and installed it and cranked everything back up it was like night and day for enjoyment and beauty. A month or so on that GTX 1060 just dialed in how I like to play my games. I want everything presented as intended by the devs no compromises when able. Unreal engine 5 is going to be the backbone for a vast majority of games and it is all about RT along with Raster. Even new games built from the ground up are setting a foundation on RT. Older titles are getting overhauls with RT enabled features where able. But like I said, if just being able to play the game is the high bar, you can dial everything down to the lowest settings, drop the resolution as low as it will go and play on a tin can. 🙂
  6. I think I saw that chart before but could not find it again, nice! Crazy the difference in board quality and design. MSI, Asus and Nvidia are really top of the heap. Ouch the MSI Gaming Trio X is significantly worse than the Suprim overall...(eyes the cancel order button). Asus TUF is literally dab smack in the middle. MSI with the Suprim literally followed Nvidia's lead on their FE but just beefed it up even more. Based on my findings in WoW and the 7900XTX being on the near same level as a 3080 10GB in RT (76fps vs 75fps), I am not surprised. I expected much better from the 7900XTX. I retested with the newest drivers yesterday and exact same performance. To add insult to injury the 7900XTX was having all types of problems performing in my Z590 Strix board with all types of pauses and stutters. I popped the Strix 3080 10GB in there to check and it was smooth sailing. Both with their own clean installs. In the defense of AMD, performance varies widely depending on title but even at its best case scenario the 7900XTX delivers ~3090-3090ti RT performance. A fairer shootout would have been the 7900XT vs the 4070ti and then the 7900XTX vs 4080 but the fact still remains the RT performance of AMD has improved but the next gen RT performance of Nvidia just crushes it.
  7. I had a Gigabyte Aorus Master 3070 and that card was a beast. Ran cool, no coil whine and overclocked like a champ with good memory so I am good with their GPUs. Their motherboards on the other hand.... Asus and MSI seem to be the coil whine champs this time around but my Liquid Suprim X 4090 is crazy quiet. It takes >~220fps to get it to start making any type of coil whine noise. I managed to snag an MSI Gaming X Trio OC 4090 from BB with discount and BB 5% rewards = ~$1495.39 total in my hand the other day only because a local (ish) store had one in stock sitting in there. When all is said and done it is ~$415 cheaper than my Suprim X 4090 which when I contacted Newegg they said would allow a one time return for full refund (since I've literally never returned anything to Newegg ever in 20yrs) so I'm tempted to pick it up and give it a whirl. It is ~1hr away drive so it is sitting there waiting for me till Feb 1st while I mull it over. It has the same PCB as the Suprim but with cut down phases. I really like this Suprim a lot but I also like $415 in my pocket too (Well, $400 calculating gas there and back).
  8. I can't quite figure out why Newegg has so many of these shipped and sold from Newegg and at MSRP and they keep coming into stock while they're completely sold out elsewhere. They routinely say limit 5 even on high demand items and I just checked and they're out of stock....again. 4090 and 7900xtx are routinely out of stock. Every other card is pretty easy to find. Of course the "fear" is this supply of Gigabyte cards will eventually dry up as BB and Amazon rarely, if ever, have them come into stock.
  9. Updated the launch page with this for those who need the pad measurements. Thanks @ViktorV!
  10. The new bar is Cyberpunk 2077 4k Psycho RT and the new Unreal Engine 5 Ultra settings 4k RT enabled. They quickly bring the 4090 back to reality.
  11. Looking quite righteous bro! For a second I didn't have my glasses and I thought it said 7900x I was like wth?! 🙂 "Team Red Standing by" 😈 I've often found there is a large swath of those without who beat their chests, berate and denigrate those with and talk about bringing fairness and equality to the world. Once they become one of those with, they tend to transmogrify into the very thing they once loathed and disparaged..... .....funny how that works.
  12. As long as it is the newest version (the one that also enabled 2000 series support), it will support 9th gen too. When I received my unit the version of Prema on it only supported 8th gen and 1000 series at the time before Zoltan (when he was with HIDevolution) did a remote session and upgraded it to the newest enabling 9th/2000 support. As for the 4th fan, I think a few users did a mod with it on the old NBR. I know @jc_denton explored the idea but I'm unsure if he went ahead and installed one. I've done that so many times with various items over the years. There is a sense of satisfaction when you know you could have purchased it but opted not to. When presented with the moment, common sense (for now 🙂 ) kicked in. If I still had my 3090ti I would not have picked up a 4090. I was blessed to be able to sell my KPE 3090 at the height of the crypto-crazy times for more than I paid for it and sell my KPE 3090ti for everything I paid for it when all was said and done (I think I came out ahead by like ~$50-100 when all was said and done) to afford me the chance to pick up a 4090 free and clear of other financially dragging cards. I basically swapped my 3090ti for a 4090. The 4090 is a monster upgrade especially with the newer RT cores. 4k gaming with the 3090 and 3090ti still hit walls and lows the 4090 overcomes now placing the burden on the CPU while still capping my display in FO76 and coming real close in WoW. My next upgrade is definitely a CPU. I'm not seeing how the 5090 will offer me anything that would be an improvement for my use case*. My problem will now be CPU limits. You could always set a price for your KPE 3090 and list it and if it sells apply that to a 4090. You can also pick one up from Amazon that, unlike Newegg, has a full return policy versus replacement only policy. *As always I reserve the right to eat crow and pick one up because.....why not? 🤪
  13. IIRC, the P870TM(1) supports the 1080 (and 1070/1060) with Prema. I also ran a 9900ks in my P870TM1 with Prema too. It was updated to the newest version from HIDevolution at the time.
  14. P2W system build...basically grabbing the best of the best and comparing against a $600 basic betty:
  15. @Talon has tried a few and @tps3443 basically has a upper mid tier 13900ks with his binned 13900k. 13900KS definitely bin better overall and some of the samples showing up are pretty monstrous. Even mid tier 13900ks chips are upper 13900k chips.
  16. Do you have some Timespy runs for comparison?
  17. Nice! I'm digging the all red .sig too! "All Hail AMD!" style 🙂
  18. This echoes my existence almost exactly. My younger brother started playing EQ back in the day and I invited him to come out and stay with me for a few weeks so him along with my other younger brother and a friend could attend DC Con (ID Quake convention back in the day) and the first thing he did when he got here was ask where he could set up and jack in with his desktop to "camp a rare" and I just shrugged and hooked him up to my ISDN and he played all day, evening and when I went to bed and woke up he was still playing. I was amazed a game could hold someone's attention for that long and how was that possible. He played EQ everyday all day and cleared my fridge of all its pent up hot and lean pockets. 🙂 Even in my early days of WoW I could never play that long but I found out I could pull 8-10hr sessions which I never thought possible before. Programming? Yes. Gaming? No but it was an eye opener. I made (and continue to have) numerous friendships from online guilds (WoW) and clans (Quake) over the years. Ditto on the bi-racial issue(s) too. I'm 50% african 50% European (40% UK)...textbook. PSO, VF and Shenmue along with Working Designs games slated for release were the primary reasons I picked up a Dreamcast back in the day. I love the idea that your addiction would derive primarily from achieving maximum value from your paid subscription. 🙂 I played PSO primarily on the Dreamcast but never tried the PC version. My original love derived from the Genesis versions (I and II) and I definitely feel you on the identity crisis. Kids can be incredibly cruel. WoW started off much more like EQ in terms of complexity and difficulty but over the years they've definitely dumbed down a lot of mechanics and made playing/questing much easier plus back in the day day no add-ons. It was much more hardcore. I try to tell my wife and daughter (who also plays) about how much harder it was "back in my day" (usually seated on a porch somewhere waving my fist at imaginary kids on my lawn). I never, EVER allowed myself to pay more than the cost of the game and subscription (if it had one). Even to this day, I will never, ever pay extra for anything. When I see family, friends and guildies forking over REAL money for P2W or useless skins/accessories I just shake my head, remount my imaginary porch and start to regale them yet again.... Rules for newer versions: Does your current system have problems that this new version will address? Read the change log notes..is there an unknown issue you were unaware of that needs to be addressed? If the answer is no to both, skip it and continue using your system. If it will address an issue, is the issue critical of nature that is in a "nothing to lose" configuration? If no, wait at least a few weeks till others test it / shake out any potential issues. I never, ever rush to install updates / newer versions of anything.
  19. I used to play hardcore 8-10hrs a day back at launch for WoW (I got by on 3-4hrs of sleep some nights), but over time and years I've pulled back from hardcore raiding and I am a full on casual now and enjoy the journey. I play a couple of hours most days. On the days I have time, I'll throw in a 3 or 4hr session but nothing like I used to be. If I know I want to play both, I'll purposely play one 1-2hrs and the other 1-2hrs. Diablo IV drops this summer to boot and I'm all about that too....ugh. My wife on the other hand has been playing a little over 2yrs of WoW now and she can still fully pull 4-6hr sessions with ease. She asks me why I don't play like that anymore and I just tell her I've been playing for 18yrs now. I've found my groove. Fallout 76 on the other hand is "new" to me and I could easily get sucked in for 4-6hrs quickly as everything is still so fresh and newish. I went through a phase where I played EQII pretty hardcore too for about a year too. I'll stop and take breaks for new games I want to play that have fixed end points (CP2077, Deux Ex series, etc...).
  20. The mobile variant of the 3060 truly was the closest approximation to the desktop version. 3070 dropped off noticeably and the 3080 was just a joke in comparison. 3060 is a good 1080p GPU. Must be a solid gaming experience for you.
  21. The XFX 7900XTX is a tank and a good sample. No coil whine, stays cool under load and the aesthetics are fantastic but in the end the 4090 is an (expensive) AMD slayer. I've thought about holding onto the XFX 7900XTX just to see how drivers progress and potentially build out an all X3D rig but I'm sure common sense will kick in especially if I switch to X3D on my primary if it proves to be the superior gaming CPU. Once I do a clean install I'll get in there and see where it goes GPU and VRAM wise. Hitting up to 2835 and never dropping below 2820 in TS runs is a good start at stock.
  22. 4090 is a certified WoW/FO76 beast. Fallout 76 after an hour...I have my display capped to 140fps (144hz display) and average fps? 140fps ~66% GPU utilization....Fallout 76 is a wrap. Can't get any better performance than this at 5120x1440 for my 144hz display WoW Dragon flight FP runs RT on ...CPU bound but still averaging 133fps RT on / 141fps RT off. This will only get worst end game as CPU utilization skyrockets with PvP/PvE. With the 13900ks or a 7800X3D I'm thinking that's a wrap too for my display and gaming or "tough" it out for the fall RPL refresh aka last of the socket 1700. In both scenarios with the 7900XTX I was pegged to 100% GPU usage with much lower fps. (1-9% faster than the Strix 3080 10GB for WoW, ~30% faster in FO76).
