Spent a few hours and installed new contact frame, cleaning the dust and gunk out and yanking some fans and popping in the Suprim X.

x1DKbRu.jpg

While doing that I moved my 2x16gb DDR4 sticks over to the Strix Z590-E with the golden 10900k (in there while my X170SM-G is being repaired) to see how far they would go over there with 1.5v and they topped out at 4300mhz. They would boot at 4400 but while TM5 passed Windows Memory Diagnostics did not. 4300mhz was rock solid in both. I plan on verifying this just setting my Z690-A into G2 and running the same settings at 4300 to remove the CPU IMC from the equation and see if the motherboard can hit that same 4300 (or higher) while I contemplate a 7800X3D or 13900KS (see WoW update below).

I have a GPU to EVGA 4xPCIe cable on order so I'll be able to get rid of that tentacle sooner than later.

First impressions of the Suprim X Liquid:

Beautiful card well built

Fans are crazy quiet under load but I could up their fan speed if I wanted to bring temps down under 60.

Mild coil whine >200fps when running TS (This is with the case totally exposed with front, back and side panels all removed)

No coil whine in WoW (Display capped at 144hz) (Same as above)

Coil whine on this card vs bud's Suprim X 4090 Air cooled model is like night and day capped at 144hz (thank goodness!)

Stock clocks are at ~2820mhz in TS and WoW.

4 screws for 8 holes? Mmmmkay.

Pump is dead silent...I was expecting EVGA level pump action noise. Pleasant surprise.

Stock Timespy run out of the box:

U5LpcMY.jpg

As for WoW.....

I have some tweaking and other things to do but....

Well, it's official.... total stock 12900k and I'm CPU bound at 5120x1440. First time ever I've seen the CPU pegged to 100% routinely ever and this CPU has seen the KPE 3090, KPE 3090ti, Strix 3080, XFX 7900XTX and never even kissed 70%. With RT on, as soon as I'm up around 125fps+ the CPU is bouncing off of 100%. I've never seen the CPU % light up red before. I'm not even to raids or PvP yet which are CPU heavy on their own especially with spell effects.

Right now I'm looking at ~130fps w/ RT on vs ~70fps 3080 vs 76fps 7900XTX but I'll do some runs to get an average. I did not bank on being CPU bound at close to 4k.

Aa bit more convenient, but less sightly in a standard ATX case. Solves a non-issue, unless someone constantly plugs and unplugs PSU cables as part of their workflow (not sure who would do that).

@electrosoftCongrats 🙂 I mentioned MSIs stupid greed before. Maybe they saved 5 cents for the lacking 4 screws? I wish the fans was more powerful (Better have more than less). Some complained about hot air coming out from the rad. I used the 4000 rpm server fans to help on the airflow while I had the Liquid X. But that sound from the fans from Hell still cling/ring in my ears, LOOL

That could be useful depending on the installation. An example of where it could be useful is an open bench setup. We are starting to see more examples of really goofy-looking cases as well. Weird doesn't even begin to describe how ridiculous some of them look.

With the fan facing downward, it would put all of the cables exiting the on the closed side panel side of normal tower case. If you had enough space between the PSU and side panel, it could be helpful to make extra space for drive cages in in front of the PSU and maybe help with cable management. On a case with very little space between the side panel and PSU it would not work at all.

On a case that has no basement cover hiding the PSU and the horrible rat's nest of cables, this could also greatly enhance the appearance of the build, assuming there is enough air space between the PSU and side panel for the cables.

The right to keep and bear arms is no less important than freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and all other articles of our Constituion. The push against it is diabolical and against everything that has made this the greatest nation on the planet. Disarming of citizens has historically been a first step in the powers of darkness establishing a totalitarian government.

I am in a meeting and will watch the video when I have a minute. Ironic that I just said to @Papusanlast night that we would likely see reviews from Roman and Jay before I get mine.

Edit: Watching it now. I suspected that Roman was directly involved in the development, as he often is with EKWB, but I had nothing to base it on. His involvement enhances the likeliness that it will be good. @Papusanit looks like KitGuru's initial involvement was the prompting of the product and EK ran with the idea, rather than the other way. That probably explains the lackluster initial results as well.

The best driver for TimeSpy is the one which allows your GPU to produce the highest score :) That's about as accurate an answer as you will get, given that this is likely GPU model dependent.

Yeah I looked and went, "Ummm?" You can keep the mouse pad MSI. Give me the screws. 🙂

No way I'm going with the turbo jets lol but I will investigate Push/Pull and/or another set of fans down the line.

Running more tests now but definitely CPU bound. Raster is barely outperforming RT. I'm going to give it a clean install just like I gave the 7900XTX a clean install of its own just to make sure.

I'll also check to see if OpenRGB supports the Strix and Suprim instead of loading their bloatware since both are rainbow/pulsing by default atm.  🤮

I think people that complain about hot air coming from their radiators (or laptop exhaust vents) is a reflection of not understanding how thermal management works. While it is certainly not pleasant if you are in the line of fire of that hot air, and makes for an uncomfortable workspace if you do not have good air circulation in your workspace, the hot air being created is actually good from the perspective that it means the cooling system is working efficiently. If hot air is not being produced, the heat is staying in a place where you do not want the heat.

Actually we might be able to do a little better than that. You can search for top results for your GPU (I assumed 3060 notebook), and then look at the driver versions used in top results?

Zero regrets picking up this 4090. WoW is now as it should be and I'll be on the hunt for a CPU upgrade now to try and keep up with it. I know when I get to end game my 12900k is just going to choke hard even at 5120x1440. I can just imagine @Papusan at 1440p it will always be ready and willing for a CPU upgrade for quite a few generations to take advantage of it when you get your Asus.

Gigabyte 4090 back in stock at da Egg....

It is also their #1 Seller

The best place to start is often the first or second driver released on a new GPU launch. So, figure out when your GPU was first released and test the first and second driver, maybe third. Things often start going downhill after that, but the Green Goblin puts its best foot forward at launch to make the new GPU stand out from the GPU it is intended to replace. Older is often better where drivers are concerned. The exception is the changes they do to fix glitches with specific game titles, and those fixes might be good for the game, but maybe not so good for benching. Then, they do so-called "security" updates and those are almost always bad for performance. I am not aware of any example, ever, of a computer performing better after security updates are applied.

newest is overclocked but the difference is still huge

CPU performance is degraded with the newer driver (which is unfortunately very common). Do not compare stock with overclocked. It will lead you to very wrong conclusions and false assumptions. It is important to keep everything as consistent as possible, including ambient temperatures. A minor increase in ambient temperature can lower GPU scores. It only takes an increase of 1°C to take you past the threshold of the point where firmware will drop the GPU clock down by the next step in the bin. It can also go the other way. A decrease of 1°C can be all it takes to allow the GPU to boost a bin higher. Either way, benchmark scores will immediately reflect that change.

I cannot find one that is reasonably priced at all. They are all $775-$1,000 USD online and then taxes and shipping on top of that. The scalper industry is just so sad right now.

China is more on the opposite site of the world from your perspective. The UK is 7 hours ahead of MT in Arizona and just 5 hours vs ET. If you could fly high enough, you could just about wave at us, or at least at the Irish 🙂

Yes, you're absolutely right. I was using that terminology as a figure of speech, not intended literally. On the West Coast we often refer to people from the East Coast as being "from the opposite/other side of the world/planet" in casual conversation and that is what I was doing here. Russia is a half day (12 hours) ahead of my time zone (Mountain). I think @ryanmay be in the Pacific Time Zone.

Did you even find one at a Microcenter? It is rare to find one available anywhere except from scalpers. I am not sure why availability is so poor. Maybe just a way to keep pricing jacked up. Even at MSRP ($700) on the ASUS store page it is overpriced. It wouldn't be as bad if their warranty and support service were not so slow and sucky.

It would be nice if we started seeing ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte and others do like EVGA and essentially only sell their products on their own store pages or micro-sites managed through their own sales department and cut out resellers entirely. This would help keep prices in check, as the OEM would determine the price, and anything sold through another channel would be deemed as undesirable overpriced scalper/gray market trash, or consumer-to-consumer sales or used parts.

@Talon BIOS 2.08 (E699 DARK K|NGP|N / E698 Classified)

Please note that this is a Beta BIOS, but it is stable enough for those of you who wish to test to give it a shot.

  • Updates CPU microcode to 10E and provides microcode option 105 (has lower VID value)
  • Supports CPU 13900KS OC table.
  • Supports CPU 13100.
  • Adds undervolt protection item (Microcode 10E only).
  • Adds CPU power limit item.
  • Improves memory stability.

Edit: So far I find nothing to complain about. The ability to at-will change from CPU microcode 10E to 105 is nice and 105 microcode definitely lowered VID. My memory overclocking seems to be great as well. Unless I find something I do not like that I have not seen yet, I think this is the best BIOS update they have had since launch.
