Well, 36 years ago today I tied the knot with Mrs. Fox. Doesn't seem possible it was that long ago. A lot has changed. A lot has not changed. I have made a lot of stupid mistakes in those 36 years. Marrying her was the smartest thing I think I have ever done. I'd be lost without her.

Congratulations brother @Mr. Fox. Sorry for  the late reply.

I have an excuse 🙂

Nonetheless, that is an amazing accomplishment. 👏  Not sure if someone could put up with me for that long. Mrs. Fox sounds like one of a kind 🤙

I'm quite happy with MSI. Reliability under stressful conditions seems great (touch wood), as is compatibility -  no problems with Linux, as opposed to what I've heard about Asus from @Mr. Fox.  EVGA boards are really nice, if pricey, but definitely  geared towards the hardcore overclocker (e.g. just 2 DIMM slots).

PCIe5 SSDs are being unveiled now. On the GPU side there is less of a rush, as PCIe bandwidth is rarely a constraint, especially with 16-24GB VRAM becoming mainstream.

I'm attaching an image of a recent UserBenchmark score using my Clevo N960Kx (RTX 3070 w/ 11700K and modified cooling). I will post some more after I tweak things a bit and further mod the cooling system, but so far I am very pleased with the results I am getting from this machine. The stock cooling system could barely tolerate the 11700 (non-K) that I first installed in it, and the 11700k had significant thermal throttling before the improved cooling.

I an open to receiving advice about additional cooling and BIOS/Throttlestop settings for the 11700K as I try to optimize this laptop and fully realize its potential.

Yep. And as you saw from my previous post.... Nvidia treat desktop cards equal as with laptop graphics cards nowadays (HW crippling in drivers).

Fake frame rendering features a few years forwards for older cards will be equal bad for the gamers as nvidias driver crippling to reduce overclocking for the same old cards.  All done to push you over on newer and more pricier products with new "stinky" features.

So, I have been sleeping on it for a couple weeks, and ended up getting the X670E. I have never spent that kind of money for a motherboard before. I know these others have being on Intel platforms, as they have been gouged for some time now. I think I need to correct what the 6800xt card I picked up on ebay. I think I said it was a nitro, but its a pulse. Not sure what the difference is between the two. One is probably OC more than the other?

AMD Ryzen 7000X3D has a redesigned box design, less OC support, and lower max temp.

There will be a new packaging style for the three incoming Ryzen 7000X3D processors. The logo for the new '3D Vertical Cache technology' will be prominently displayed in orange and silver on the PIB (Processor in Box) packaging Read more

And of course we have latest news about AMDs 1000$ graphics card that should be priced several hundreds below what they go for... Smoke and fire on level with what you saw from Nvidia's new 12VHPWR connector. Nice.

More nice news but this time with Nvidia in the spotlight....

MSI says GeForce RTX 4070 Ti cost is ‘not as bad as RTX 4080’ videocardz.com

And it seems Nvidia wasn't happy with the tweet.... Update: MSI had already removed the tweet, but we made a copy just in case.

With the high cost of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080, it is no wonder that MSI is concerned with having high quantities of overstock due to high costs and possible trust issues with consumers looking to upgrade to the Ada Lovelace generation. Greed come at a price

Yes, totally. It seems obvious the communication gap was between the father and his son, not between the customer and shop. If I were that Canadian PC shop and I had already been paid I would have refused to give him a refund, especially if the son purchased the system or parts from another PC shop. My response would be, sorry pal, you bought it, it was built for you, it's yours. If you changed your mind and don't want it now, then you sell it and you absord the loss. Not my problem.

Once it was built, the parts are all used and instantly worth less than new sealed box. And, there likely would have been restocking fees, etc. It would take a really good repeat customer that I did a lot of business with and wanted to retain as a customer before I would take the loss on that kind of deal.

buyers remorse is why I never attempted to start up a business in that arena. I dont have the heart to turn away a sob story and would likely just implode as a result.

Much easier for me to curse Dell and HP to the high heavens for their inept and lately lower product standards. Though now I just have stressors in other aspects of my work.

Being a small SI has its perks and some downsides. It is all on how you mitigate those downsides. You don't get a lot of "problems" with small to medium size businesses, only when you deal with the public consumer markets. You should pursue it and just find a piece or rather a specialization.

Newegg has had the Gigabyte 4090 drifting in and out of stock today:

MSI has one model of their 4090 in stock on their website the $1699.99 Gaming X Trio

Looks like they're forcing a bundle purchase (MB and AIO) to get it.....ewww.

It is getting harder to rationalize spending between $1300 and $2000 more than the price of an A770. If the percentage of performance uplift loosely matched the percentage of price increase it would be fairly easy to justify.

I agree with the last comment... definitely "ewww" for me, too. No thanks.
