Just gets weirder and weirder for that package that arrived. Apparently looking back at my emails I ordered it in August last year and they actually shipped it on August 31 according to the box label. It was an overnight shipment service. Shipment label was sharpied over and had "No Scan" written on it on black sharpie. Box is beat to hell and it arrived almost 6 months late lol. Overnight uh huh. I got the full castaway service.

Anyone know the max safe DDR5 speed for a 12900KS and a cheap Asrock DDR5 Z790 (4) Dimm motherboard?

I skipped 12th gen. So I’m not really sure on this one. Should I aim for XMP 6400? XMP 6800?

If you get one of the new cheap Z790 boards I would expect around 6600-7200 depending on IMC.

I sent this to you via text as well.  I had no trouble with 6800 on the 12900K/KS in the Z690 Unify-X and that was when DDR5 was super immature and a work in process. Things have changed dramatically since 12th Gen in terms of firmware and memory. If you go with a 4-DIMM motherboard you are going to be limited to around 7200 max no matter what CPU. I think the limiting factor with 12th Gen was immature DDR5 technology more than the CPU itself.

You have any good bargains on used GPU’s? Something not too expensive less than $400? I think you go through a lot of hardware so just checking before I buy something.

Not as bad as the one above but a very defective product from Intel. If this is the trend looking for a KS I will keep my 14900K. Because this is disgusting.

Not at the moment unfortunately. I sold my last 3070 and that 6700xt a while back. A380 went to my nephew, 7900xtx to my daughter and 4060 to my friend's daughter.

Dayyyuuum. Is that your sucky CPU, brother? :classic_sad: Central has accepted my RMA on the basis that the product sold to me is defective (at least it seems they have) and they issued an authorization to return. They said the refund should be processed by the next or second business day.

It truly is defective, and so is that example you are showing. You should seek to return it and request a refund. It is unfit for the purpose for which it was created. It is a downgrade, not a "Special Edition" unless special means a sarcastic expression of "special" LOL. And, you are right... not worth your time to do this. Just keep what you have or buy a good CPU bin used. All of my good CPUs have been purchased used since the one nice 10900KF that my Z490 Apex destroyed. I am always unlucky in the lottery buying new.

I didn't realize that was still a thing. I thought it was a fad that came and went. Nobody talks about it anymore, at least commercially. Perhaps it is just not something that Intel sees a lucrative market for so they haven't bothered to support it.

They are probably focusing on getting gaming optimized before worrying about VR. The current product stack wouldnt do that well with VR if my understanding of it is more or less accurate (resource heavy).

True. Arc A770 is 3060 Ti performance range and I am not sure if that is some the 3060 Ti can handle well. Arc A750 and the "lite" version of A770 are also light on VRAM (only 8GB). One really should not entertain the idea of buying a new GPU for gaming with only 8GB, or less, unless it is dirt cheap and no demanding games are being played.

Yeah VR is very very very popular, so popular I was actually surprised it doesn’t work with Intel ARC. It’s becoming even more popular with all of the standalone devices. Few weeks ago I purchased a Oculus MetaQuest 3 for my self so I can play with my son with him on his MetaQuest 2. These are standalone devices so they can game wirelessly on their own MetaQuest games (Less demanding graphics/physics), but having a PC with a GPU makes all the differences because you can leverage 100% of your PC to run higher end VR games on Steam VR or even MetaQuest on the desktop which aren’t available on just the standalone device. Like a traditional VR headset Valve Index which has to have a PC.

If you have not tried VR, then I highly recommend it! Me being 33 years old makes it a little harder to stay engaged or interested with traditional Flat screen PC games, while VR gaming is just amazing! It’s also physically demanding.

I have been hooking up VR to my PC for my son since 2080Ti days 😂. Now he’ll finally have his own rig so he won’t be cluttering up mine with all the random games and mods etc.

I fix it for you🙂 75% of all sold KS is defective products. And the rest isn't fantastic. Even with SP110 they are defective Cpu's. In short.... Intel should never ever have released the 14900KS. But greed and stupidity go hands in hands. We have seen this time after time. And Intel have failed massive with this refresh rehash.

After hours of research I finally bought a GPU for my son’s PC. I was debating for about 2 days on this. Intel ARC was gonna be perfect, and I wanted to do an all Intel build. Then I find out there’s limited to no VR support. So I go looking at AMD and then I start thinking about drivers and also VR again, and I think maybe Nvidia is the best for reliability and 100% function all the time even if it’s a little slower in rasterization performance, it’s the GO TO.

Option (1) RTX4060 (Terrible value, 8GB of vram is crap..

Option (2) RTX4060Ti 16GB (Literally the WORST VALUE in the world.. These things are $440-$500 dollars, making it literally the dumbest buy. It’s intentionally so expensive that Nvidia is forcing you to step up to the 4070 which is still a gimmick because it only has 12GB of VRAM. “We give you more but also less”  for this money I can buy my son a AND 6950XT Red Devil which will beat them all 🤨

Option (3) RTX3060Ti, plenty of performance but only has 8GB of vram!!!

Option (4) RTX3070 (Only 8GB of VRAM)

Option (5) RTX2080Ti (I almost purchased one, it was pretty much the best option price/performance and still has 11GB VRAM)

Bought (6) WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER Asus RTX3060 Strix 12GB V2 OC for a whopping $265 USD.

^ The price to performance and ram amount of 12GB sold me for sure. RTX3060 12GB it is.

In the end shopping for cheaper GPU’s is really tough.

Are you getting your money back?

So, you can't get a good 14900K, only poor samples, because the good ones were binned and set aside for 14900KS. The question is, where did all of the good ones go? Or, were there not any good 14900K from which to siphon off the KS? Are they holding them somewhere for a KS Super or a KS Super-Super? If all of the 14900K that were good bin quality were being pulled from distribution for KS rebranding and price markup, who has the good ones and where are they hiding them? We will never know the answer to this question.

They must have had the assistance of AI, seeing how well it was executed.

Should be able to return it. But my headroom for returning "working" goods shrinks. Can't do it many times before you get a nope. Also shops here home can ban you returning working goods if this repeats itself several times.

With limited store selections here at home, I can't continue to return working items. Because the stores have to sell the goods as a demo at a loss. Isn't it nice living in a small country with limited options for everything?

Edit. Approved return. The shipping label is is now received in epost. I may send it back tomorrow. Just sad we can't send it back directly to Intel. Has to be back to the shop. Intel deserve get all the fake KS back.

Back to awesome. I really love Corsairs smart engineers. They continue offer 8-pins to 12VHPWR cable adapters for their new PSUs. Smart move. Not everyday you see enginners use their heads.

I have two RM1200x SHIFT power supplies. I really like them a lot. The only thing I wish was different (and I suspect many people love about it) is the silent fan thing. I don't want or need the fan to stay turned off except under heavy load. I would prefer that it run more often and push more air. Because they deliberately focused on quiet it is not as cool as it would have otherwise been. It does not get hot, but it gets warm because the fan seldom kicks on and when it does it doesn't create much turbulence.

It's funny how "enthusiasts" behave. My Toughpower 1650W PSU is a great product, but it gets bads reviews because the fan is "too loud" and I have never once noticed whether or not the fan was running.

I still want one to play with, finances and time have been discouraging against it but perhaps this year unless they release something.

ARC continues to improve in leaps and bounds (of course the argument being it needed massive amounts of improvement) on the software/driver side and this will lay the groundwork for Battlemage. I'm hoping they can at least compete with the upper middle tier (4070/4080 level) at least if not more.

Corsair launches white RMx SHIFT 750W-1200W power supplies with side-mounted connectors

The side-panel does not have a native 12VHPWR power connector, but the company is providing a suitable cable fully compatible with this standard.

*WHEW* glad you were able to get an RMA on that stinker. 14900k/ks would be a buy pre-binned only affair for me but I am skipping it and sticking with AMD this go around and see how 15th gen and 8000 X3D shakes out. I don't see any 14th gen chip being much better than the SP115 13900KS I had considering I use AIOs and it was on par overall with my 7950X3D (but just got destroyed in Fallout 76).

I'm also skipping all laptops (outside of what companies send me to evaluate and review) and just sticking with my NH55. Maybe down the road (along with @jaybee83) I could see swapping in a killer sample 14900 chip like @tps3443 has and going from there because of the sweet lows.

Well, my 14900KS is only a 103SP. My poor luck with Intel chips continues. Since I used some of my CC rewards to pay for it, I'm not sure if I want to go through the process of returning it. Essentially, I only paid 610 shipped.

My guess is that most of the good samples ended up in this year's laptops equipped with a 14900HX, like the MSI Titan 18 HX. That CPU is esentially a delidded desktop CPU repackaged into a BGA socket, and we know laptops need all the thermal assistance they can get.

With a K I can easly accept get lower quality chips but not if you pay premium and buy their special binned chips. A huge difference. The variance between the different KS is all too big. In short a scam. Not pleased how Intel have treated their enhusiast performance crowd. If they want to bin chip for a special version.... Just offer three top tiers. OKish, better and best. More the way EVGA binned and sold their 9xx serieis kingpin cards. 3 tiers and 3 different price point. This way people know what to expect. Not this new greedy way maxinmize profits.

Low bin +$50 above vanilla K and so on.

Middle bin +$100

Top bin +$150

But I expect Intel have so many defective KS chips so this is impossible to offer.

It could have been worse 😞 Make sure to test it especially the IMC if you're looking to push 8400+

I can definitely see this scenario playing out. MSI Titan 18 HX is completely unlocked too and has a BIOS basically identical to their desktop boards allowing access to CPU and memory adjustments. Asus G18 allows an undervolt.....and that's it.
