Mr. Evans replied with "I suggest you run MATs on your card. You’re most likely dealing with broken solder joints."

I suspect I will find a need to reflow one of the memory chips. I can do that with my hot air station if I am able to indentify that as the issue.

Yeah, MATS is what I used to find the exact dead memory chip on my buddy's 980ti. He has a video about that on his channel. If that does not work, there is a more extensive test called MODS that I believe is also on his channel, but you may need to do some research as it is very weird and hard to use.

Hello all, finally made it in, great to see most of the usual suspects 🙂

Quck question right off the bat for @Mr. Fox or anyone else with 12900K(S) - did you have a chance to try out those LGA 1700 contact frames, as covered by Steve:

Many thanks!

Hola bro etern 🙂

With an perfectly flat cold plate it will help (see igorslab's testing). But not so much if the cold plate is somewhat convex shape as they do for many of the AIO's heatsink(made for socket 1700). I didn't see a major difference from it. But the newer EK heatsink's I got was designed for socket 1700, so.

Thanks bros.  Got the cheap one off Amazon but getting second thoughts. Temps are OK as is, but what worries me now is the prospect of potentially messing up stability (which is the top priority for this system). Perhaps using a small torque wrench for tightening the screws would be a good idea, but what torque setting to use?

Did you run into any stability issues post installation?

Good to be back, and straight in the desktop section at that 🙂

Edit: I guess being a newbie I'm not allowed to react to posts??

Switch to Dark Theme, I may just make that the default going forward. The IC forums are not letting me post there for some reason, so getting answers is difficult.

Cool, found the invisible icon. Otherwise the new forum software looks nice and solid, love it. How are things going with maintaining the site?

Stay below 0.6Nm. I would say even well below 0.5Nm. Hand tight the screws with a force of your thumb and index finger is good enough (both the bend fix frame and the water block). You don't need a torque screw driver for this.

I focus more so on Forum cohesiveness, where to cut the fat and where to expand. The backend is largely handled by my co-(re?)founder @Hiew . He is good at what he does, and that aspect of the forum has largely been running like a well oiled machine. We have had a cooling off period for a bit now, with the world seemingly falling to pieces we have been working as much as possible in our respective lives.

I still have some projects in regards to the forums, one of which I have been working on here and there to which some here are privy, I still plan to make it a reality here when the time is right.

As  Brother @Papusansaid. The screws don't need to be tight. They can even be loose. This frame is safer than the stock ILM as far as I am concerned. Once you cinch down your water block you're good to go. You could use Kapton tape to hold the CPU in place while mounting the water block if you wanted to.

Yeah, I forgot to tell you he has all of the links and tutorial of how to install and setup MATS in the video. Also, use the version of RUFUS included in the google drive. MATS only likes that particular version of RUFUS (I have tried newer versions and it always fails.)

Yep! I intend to pick 2 up for such a purpose. Used to have one a long time ago, it is sadly where I learned of the 1GB vram marketing vs reality trope lol it was good fun at the time.

Now I want a couple for nostalgia but also for benching.

Me too, I'm quite stingy; I'd take 2 for $75 preferably, $80 tops. I don't have a Mobo for 'em, but we have a 5820k on some MSI X99 board at school. While I don't take IT, I'm on pretty good terms with our IT teacher, and he'd probably let me bench the hell out of them lol.

It looks like Newegg has officially sold out of the 13900K, and sold out of the 13900KF.

They also changed the status from “Pre-Order” to “Recently Released”

I’ve been checking it daily 🤪

I am probably gonna keep my 3090 Kingpin Hydro Copper. My original thinking was passing on the RTX4090. And I think I will go back to that mind set.

Also, a peak at the Z790 Dark motherboard I found online.

So much good data will pour in between our sole 7950x victim, er, buyer @jaybee83 and the few of you picking up 13th gen.

Whether due to Nvidia withholding chips or buyers buying, but there are barely any 3090ti and 3090's to be found out in the wild new atm. Even most of the 3080's all all flavors are drying up.

With market conditions as they are, if anyone pays those outlandish prices for a marked up 4090, that's on them.

And yeah, I continue to go back and forth over the 4090 but with market conditions and AMD right around the corner, I do expect either the 4090ti to drop sooner than later, pricing on the 4090 to drop sooner than later or both. Let's see how tomorrow's reviews alter our perspective. 🙂

I am so glad I cancelled my 13900K pre-order. It worked out especially nice since I had to waste my money on a 3060. As it turns out, that is actually a better performer than I expected for a cheap air-cooled Zotac Twin Edge OC. I am impressed with the price vs performance.

I bet they are already culling the best samples for 13900KS, LOL. It will be hard watching others romp all over my 12900KS with the extra baby cores, but it will be worth it when I buy the KS.

Yeah, I forgot to tell you he has all of the links and tutorial of how to install and setup MATS in the video. Also, use the version of RUFUS included in the google drive. MATS only likes that particular version of RUFUS (I have tried newer versions and it always fails.)

Thank you very much! I will learn how to use it and see what it can tell me about my 2080 Ti.

Does a nice job of holding boost clocks for an air-cooled card. Look at the flat-line.

It's SO small. Little midget packs a nasty punch, LOL. I guess I better repaste it and look for a GPU block for it.

+200 Core / +1000 Memory on my second run after replacing stock paste with KPX. Maxed out at 59°C versus 74°C with stock paste. (It wasn't one of the waxy phase change pads. Looked like Ceramique paste.) It will be interesting to see how much higher it can go on air. 7th place for my second run... not too shabby.
