That is a beautiful motherboard, wow. Those aesthetics with a Founders edition (or killer WB) would look pretty righteous.

Yeah it is apparently the best Z690 motherboard you can buy, the Asrock Z590 OC Formula was also abnormally good too. They make two models of the Aqua. The Z690 Aqua, and the Z690 Aqua OC. The main difference is the standard Aqua has (4) Dimms, and the Aqua OC has (2) Dimms. But the 12 layer PCB is what’s really cool, based on the research I’ve done this is beneficial in motherboards. Apparently 8000Mhz DDR5 was doable on these motherboards with Intel 12th Gen CPU. I think a 13900K would be right at home on one.

I always loved a motherboard that includes a monoblock right from the factory.

Asus Glacier, Aorus Waterforce, ASrock Aqua. These manufacturers have been doing this for a little while now. I just wish they were a little more affordable.

Hard to know what the reason for it is or what benefit, if any, it will provide. It could be for something other than memory, or it may even be an unnecessary sales gimmick

If the board becomes stiffer it may help a bit on Intel's ILM bend fiasco. Aka the board will look more as it should have been with the Cpu mounted and not as a banana. Maybe Intel subsidise the extra layers?🙃

The Z790 Dark will have a 14 layer PCB, compared to the 10 layer PCB from the Z590/Z690 Dark. I’m kind of wondering how this will change memory overclocking.

Max (relatively speaking) overclocks on 7950x, 5800X3D and 12900k gaming shootout (spoiler alert -  Alderlake wins):

Also more props to the Gigabyte X670 $289 board.

I'm still looking forward to the X3D versions....

duuuuuuuuude those raaaaaaaam speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeds! what voltages? temps?

Thanks. Not too shabby for $80 M-die sticks. I look forwad to A-die becoming common and cheap. That is with only 1.500V and RAM temps stay very low on water or with a strong fan blowing over them. I think the highest I have seen after like a 30 minutes test was like 39-42°C depending on how hot it is in my office. If you don't have at least a fan blowing over the modules they will definitely run too how and start kicking out errors. RAM is very easy to cool and easily overheats when no effort is made.

I flashed the Z690 Dark beta BIOS for 13900K (not recommended for 12th Gen per EVGA) and everything seems to work fine. They added some stupid TVB options (it had none before) that I don't know why anyone buying this mobo would care about, but there are also a few more memory tuning options that are useful. This is a pre-stored 7000 profile provided in the firmware by Vince (Kingpin). I normally use the Luumi 6800 profile with 1.475V.

ASRock Aqua OC Z690

12 Layer PCB

(2) Dimm design

Very good memory overclocking ability. Unfortunately these are $800 USD is the cheapest I’ve found.

It is unfortunate they are so expensive. I want one!!!!! 😭😭😭

It looks great, but my first, only and last ASROCK mobo (Chai Tea) was my least favorite of anything I have ever owned. It was a piece of crap and they have the worst warranty process that I am aware of. I was excited about getting it at the time and extremely disappointed in what a pile of garbage it was. I've never been interested in anything from ASROCK since then. Buyer beware. If you get one, make sure there is a liberal 30-day return for refund policy just in case it sucks, and pray you don't need an RMA after 30 days.

lol, not horrible at all. Fixed the stutter/dip issue of the 5000 series and holds  its own quite nicely. Let's see if the 4090 adds some much needed separation.

50-70% but that is still a monster upgrade for games that will definitely at least remove some GPU saturation. Leaked synthetics for TSE show ~82% uplift between the 4090 and 3090 and that is best case and rarely if ever translates directly to games. 60% uplift in cuda to cuda 4090 vs 3090ti. Pure rasterization is going to be 50-70%....speculation of course. 🤪

The testing did show how X3D can be a liability if the cache can't hold all current assets for processing and you suffer massive drops. I wonder if 7000 series X3D will still be ~96mb or if they will go bigger and if so by how much?

My main takeaway was how much performance you can get out of a sub $300 USD motherboard for X670. That is definitely the route I would go if building out. Get some cheap(ish) DDR5 sticks that top out around 6200-6400, that Gigabyte board and a 7950x when it eventually goes on sale which based on sales numbers and the 13900k right around the corner to rain on its parade even more will happen sooner than later.

If someone had hopped on the Microcenter deal of a free kit of DDR5 ram with the purchase of a 7 or 9 series along with that Gigabyte board you would have a monster amount of savings especially if you could push the memory to at least 6000 baseline.

Still find myself looking at the 4090FE and 4090 Suprim Hybrid....  😁

So, I get an involuntary downgrade. I am glad I canceled my 13900K pre-order. I was kicking around the idea of reinstating it, but this unexpected expenditure has taken care of that for the time being.

2080 Ti FTW3 is dead. It started having the "space invaders" artifacts last night and when drivers are installed it shows code 43 in Device Manager. My preference would have been an Intel Arc A770 but I use this system for work daily and need it now. No telling when an A770 would be available. I ordered an inexpensive Zotac 3060 on Amazon. I will be limping along with Intel iGPU and one less functional monitor until it arrives tomorrow afternoon. It's going to be weird trying to work with only two monitors. I have been using three for so long it feels totally messed up. I am glad the iGPU can support two in a pinch.

Banshee looks really weird with a bare motherboard and no GPU taking up space. I wish it had that much extra air space in the chassis when a GPU is installed.

Ouch, any warranty left on the 2080ti?

I've been a one monitor type of user unless I'm doing targeted dev work where I like a secondary display for compiled output especially in Swift.

I JUST set this behemoth (49") up today to take for a whirl. 3800R so the curve is minimal but sheesh this is a different experience.

image0.thumb.jpeg.f72ba209f7d657dff6861eabb8702c58.jpeg

I logged into my free level 1 on WoW since I haven't re-upped yet. I won't till two weeks before Dragonflight launches but I wanted to see if it supports the extreme resolution which is does (5120x1440).

Fallout 76 doesn't support ultra wide at all but there is a user mod that is supposed to enable it so we'll see.

I don't hate it but I'm not sold yet. It is G-Sync compatible and 144hz though.

It might still be under warranty, but it has been shunt-modded and I bought it from Brother @Rage Set. I might see if he has a copy of the original invoice and reach out to EVGA and see if they will do an RMA on it. That will take a while and I need it immediately for work. On the chance I could clean up the soldering of the shunt to look right they might replace it. If not, I might try baking it for a reflow and if that doesn't work, somebody on eBay will buy it "for parts only" purposes.

A triple monitor setup is best and most convenient for me for work. I use each monitor for a specific task and I don't like Windows snapping (disabled because it sucks). I would have to waste a lot of time resizing windows manually. While the real estate could be the same or greater with a single monitor setup like you have, it would be less convenient for my specific use scenario.

If you do decide to bake it, (which I don't recommend) DON'T sell in on Ebay UNLESS you specify that it was baked. I've seen too many GPU repair newbies buy baked GPUs off of Ebay without knowing it, just to find out that the card is FUBAR'd and can't be repaired or used for parts at all.

You could always send it to Tech Cemetery if the warranty is out. He's the guy who repaired my buddy's 980ti, and he did it for a decent price, 80 USD iirc. It may be a bit more for you as my buddy's 980ti was just a dead MLCC behind a RAM chip, but you could always ask him for an estimate.

Edit:
Disregard the second part, I forgot he stopped accepting GPU repairs a few days ago as to stop being slammed with the requests.

I would sell that 3090Ti Kingpin ASAP!!!!

Only (1) on eBay, and it is fetching silly money so far. Are people really this stupid? If so, take advantage of it!!

People who like, want and collect them are kicking themselves because they didn't believe Jacob when he said VERY limited run. (He actually capitalized the VERY in his tweet).

They rarely, if ever, show up on Fleabay versus KPE 3090's which are in abundance as they were produced for over 18 months.

They are no longer available even with the E1 frame as a pre-built. One that was found floating in stock on EVGA sold quickly and a forum member was irked because someone sniped it while he was checking out and that was just a week or two ago and that was at full $2k.

I saw that listing earlier and it was up to 1650 already. I see it has grown. 🙂

It isn't even about it being just a 3090ti. You can go grab one of those anywhere.

Oh, and yes I've contemplated selling mine if I pick up a 4090FE or MSI SuprimX Hybrid. If I ended up picking one of them up, I'd just list mine at $1999.99 -2099.99, make back everything I paid for it and still have a 1600w PSU that I needed anyhow.

I'm in no rush though. My KPE 3090ti has zero coil whine and I can't emphasize how important that is to me. I don't want any downtime or GPU uncertainty with me and some friends fully engrossed in nightly Fallout 76 gaming and WoW Dragonflight dropping next month.  I would definitely test out the 4090 if I picked one up before selling the KPE 3090ti. I'm a total tech member for BB so I get 60 day returns.

Yep, he's the guy that did those Alienware 51m repairs that I sent here a while ago.

Here's his Youtube channel where he diagnoses and explains the solutions to common problems found on GPUs and other electronics. The only thing he doesn't do is BGA repair as that is very difficult and costly, even for bigger repair groups.

Thanks for the link, sent an inquiry to see about diagnosing my msi branded 1080 from my p750FM. Locks up under GPU load and kind of miss using it as my daily.

If he can't repair it and you can't find the problem, you can probably buy this one from Ebay.

It's been up for the past 2 months, so you could probably message the seller an offer as the type 2 1080 is such a specific card, used in only 2 laptops, and is now almost 3 generations old.

I emailed Mr. Evans to ask if he had any idea what would be the likely cause even though he is not accepting GPUs for repair. I may consider that guy up in Seattle whose videos I posted here a few times. He is an EVGA fanboy like me, LOL. Depending on what it is, it might be something I can fix myself, but I don't know how to diagnose and isolate the cause.

I believe he isn't actively accepting GPU repairs because he's going to college and doesn't have time for GPUs as those were his most requested repairs. That and he has stated that GPU repair is like a giant wave in the ocean. Everything is calm when new generations are released, and repair requests start to spring up halfway during a generation when people want to fix their old cards to sell or to fix the new cards that were damaged by user error (mostly miners.)

If you need help diagnosing what could be the problem, this guy's videos are pretty good. I call him the German Buildzoid, he even rambles as much as him lol.

I had an opportunity to grab one from EVGA. They emailed me with a spot for the 3090Ti KP with the power supply combo. I didn’t like that I would be trapped with the AIO.

Now that I think about it. The 3090Ti Kingpin is only 3 months old. It would be a shame if it went for any less honestly.

Also how is fallout 76? I tried it about 2 years ago for maybe 5 minutes tops and immediately uninstalled it. It felt nothing like the normal Fallout games, Fallout 3/4. Has it changed? Maybe I should give it another chance.

Yep, exactly. If you're wanting to block it it is a non starter plus you still have your KPE 3090 too.

I've played Fallout since launch 25yrs ago except for Vegas for some reason. I didn't start playing FO76 till August when a buddy of mine I found out has been playing since launch and said it has really come a long way. I had read the initial reviews, got some feedback from guild members and gave it a hard pass back in 2018/2019. I have to say I'm very much enjoying myself. I think 3 expansions have been released since launch so even 2-3 months later I'm still making my way through all the original content plus you get side tracked with side quests galore and tons of daily quests and objectives.

I had to swap in a mod and adjust a few ini files to get this extreme resolution working (5120x1440) but it's working as intended now.

3800R curve is almost acceptable and makes sense to a degree. No way I could do a sub 2000R.

Mr. Evans replied with "I suggest you run MATs on your card. You’re most likely dealing with broken solder joints."

I suspect I will find a need to reflow one of the memory chips. I can do that with my hot air station if I am able to indentify that as the issue.
