The motherboard will be here tomorrow, but the CPU and RAM are not expected until Monday. To get things ready, I moved the Z490 Dark to the 5000D Airflow to assume its new role as "Banshee" (my work PC). It's ready to rock and roll at work tomorrow.

I am temporarily using the Strix on the Wetbench while waiting for the new parts to arrive.

Got a new HW for my machine (OS disk). I always stick to Samsung. Have always done that (they has always been reliable for me). Not that the newest Pro disks is so much better than other similar disks... I still jump on it. And the other brands ssd's is near in price point (Prices is near 50% above what you'll pay in U.S), so..... Samsung it will be 🙂

Here is new pict of my crocks bro @electrosoft 🙂

Yep, at the cost of higher power consumption. And once again we will see bigger leaps in performance for desktops over gaming laptops that being castrated more and more for each new gen. The thin and light trend come at a cost. As the title say in the link... When I moved from an SN750 to an SN850 (same 500GB capacity) I felt zero difference. I mean benchmarks...sure but real world? Nope.

As for 4000 series, there really is no choice if this is the direction Nvidia is going. Ada is going to be even more monstrously hungry and there is no way to cram that commercial liner in a Cessna hanger. They seem to be taking the Intel approach. Plus smaller chassis and Nvidia failing to even offer higher wattage offerings that at least match the 200w TDP of the 2080 isn't helping.

With the model and approach Nvidia is taking I wouldn't be surprised if a 1000w PSU is the minimum for their top end model and depending on the rest of your components a >=1200w PSU might be in play.

If you're a serious overclocker running top end hardware, 1500w+ PSUs are the norm now.

Nvidia have serious problems with their arc on the smaller N5 Fabrication Node if they need ++650W for the their high end 4000 series cards. Or they know that AMD or even (Intel) will come up with Gpu's that need that type of power to try take their gaming crown. But this doesn't fits the different governments regulations for max power consumption for newer products. Nvidia sell gaming products to more places than U.S. And then you have the tree huggers in California state governments that always go in front for more energy efficient products. They will force changes with their newer ending new regulations..

Whenever the environmentalists get involved everything gets screwed up real bad. Cancel culture sucks and is fundamentally wrong, but I cannot identify a group more worthy of being canceled. The California and Oregon variety of tree-hugger is extra-goofy.

While it was a challenge to shoe-horn the Z490 Dark into the 5000D, now that it is in there I really love how it looks. The challenge was routing the cables because the E-ATX form factor places all of the connection sockets over the edge of the grommeted slots the cables pass through. In all other respects, it fits better than the Strix did because the top radiator is thick and gives no extra space at the top of the mobo. Due to the rotated VRM, CPU and RAM layout, it has adequate clearance.

I don't know what it is, but lately I've been on this lower end spec part kick. Like I've just gotten so sick of top end part being near maxed out of box. I am having so much more fun tinkering with the G7400 and i3 12100F and honestly the i3 could keep me happy for daily use. It's crazy how fast the 4 core part is with the high IPC and clockspeed.

Congrats brother Fox. I hope you can enjoy the benching on this HW. Since most of the folks here are obviously into that. Plus fantastic choice, 2DIMM is and has always been the best way for maximum performance and value and best tech with DDR5 it's even more paramount. Also MSI is a fine choice regarding Win7 since Canonkong got successful with that mobo company, as they natively had the Win7 ACPI. Unlike others who have compromises in either BIOS or OC or Performance or QC etc..

I'm facing some QC things on my side too, mild disappointment. I hope I can finish mine too and enjoy my PC, been a damn long time since I got my components esp GPU lol.

Spot on.

When a company fail release a yearly refreshed processor. The damn Jokebooks get all attentions.

Based on the data AMD has shared so far, it seems clear that the performance gains from Ryzen 6000 and Zen 3+ are going to be larger at lower power limits. Shaving off half a watt makes a big difference at 15W, but a comparatively small difference at 45W. This is also why Zen 3+ isn’t headed to the desktop as a mid-cycle refresh before Zen 4 arrives.
https://www.techspot.com/news/93424-amd-launches-ryzen-6000-mobile-what-new-zen.html

And the small E-cores was needed for this gen chips to show Intel's goal down the road. More power effiency cores. The coming Raptor lake will get double up. 8P and 16 power efficent baby cores. All ways lead to Rome😐

Intel updated its CPU roadmap with an emphasis on maximizing power efficiency.

Intel's CPU roadmap: Aggressive tech advances spur power efficiency

Even Xeon
ngcb1

A shame that Intel mucked up the whole lineup, Alder - Raptor - Meteor - Nova - Lunar all of them are big little bs, I do not like it at all. That's set for 5-6 years plus. The best thing that Intel has is solid OC, and fixed Clock speed option. No crappy AMD dynamic clock speed drama, no awful issues like I/O die plus ton of official documentations and datasheets..

Intel is fixed at 8P because they know the Console generation is fixed at 8Cores and they can stick to that and add these small cores to get the SMT performance and compete against AMD's superior SMT performance. Sad future, they are making 200 SKUs for latest BGA JUNK YUCK.

https://videocardz.com/newz/intel-details-12th-gen-core-alder-lake-p-u-series-more-than-250-thin-and-light-designs-planned-for-2022

So that alone tells us DIY is not their main anymore, BGA thin and light junk... they give the gamers who are most of the DIY market now their 8P fast cores and keep the baby cores for that Multithreaded performance.

Intel's Core is very old, it's same ring bus technology since Nehalem. So they are stuck there and their lithography or clock behavior is also like that they add the EMIB to the XEON to add more cores and make a successor for Mesh.

Finally AMD's Zen CPU design is brand new, 2016, their new Zen is scaling extremely well due to their MCM design. Milan is 64C, Genoa is 96C with SMT, Intel Sapphire Rapids got delayed to Q3-4, Genoa will sweep the market, And Bergamo is 2023 with cut down Zen4c, Intel Sierra Forrest which is same like Bergamo a cut down x86 CPU is in 2024, so Intel is late by a year.

Now to the AM5, to conclude I think AMD will not go same big little because there will be no difference with Core counts vs Intel and what does a company need to stand out, they should do better than competition. My guess is AMD will shove big little junk into BGA hellbooks and other trash but keep a full fat design on DIY and if needed they will add a whole another group of SKUs with cut down Zen 5c. I hope and wish I'm not wrong...

Once we can identify what is right with them we can worry less about what is wrong with them. Right now all I am seeing is trash. The world is being run by stupid losers, so it is probably unfair of us to expect anything intelligent or great to be coming from AMD. But hey, there is a first time for everything.

Yeah I'm contemplating ordering a 12900k and a Unify-X board given my inability to run more than 1.435v through the ram on my Strix board. I really have spent too much $$ on this sidegrade from my 5900x, lol...

also something interesting, dlss on quality looks sharper/clearer/more detailed than AA set to smaa4x at native 1080p

so I think it's pretty cool getting an extra 40fps and getting a boost in IQ on top of the performance boost, I think my laptop will serve me well for quite some time similar to the 980 full fat laptops.

Yeah I'm contemplating ordering a 12900k and a Unify-X board given my inability to run more than 1.435v through the ram on my Strix board. I really have spent too much $$ on this sidegrade from my 5900x, lol...

Well... you can do 6600mhz (My kit only - 6400Mhz G.Skill Trident Z5) on this board with 1.3V/1.3V/1.3V and basically their timings which are slightly above XMP. Out of the box. I couldn't get 6400Mhz stable with all the voltage or no voltage in the world. lol

I apologize that this is a bit off-topic, but for those who have sold on Feebay, if someone says what you sold them is "incorrect" or "broken," does Ebay revoke the money that was paid to you by the buyer, or do they just give the money back and lose however much was the item costed? I ask this because I'm going to list my 980m on Ebay soon, but I'm super paranoid about someone claiming that "its broken" or "it doesn't work." I personally know it works, and I just want to sell it, get the money, and be done with it.

eBay will be taking back the money back from you, the seller, if the buyer wins the case. While I highlighted the case where I was sent a chiller that likely did work before the seller sent it to me and I found a broke fuse inside, there are many many transactions that go smoothly.

I only buy from ebay, I dont sell there anymore. Last 2-3 transactions are from people that actively tried to scam me. You cant even really leave negative feedback as ebay tends to remove it with the right line of inquiry.

A seller was able to remove my feedback stating that i held the feedback hostage in the transaction. They sold me a dead P750ZM board and wanted to know what they could to make it right. I said a working P750ZM board, they took that to ebay and removed the transaction from my purchase history.

Not a fan.

I need to get caught up in here, but i did read where brother fox is getting the msi unify-x board.

my board just came in today. the extreme is getting packed up and sent back to the store. my ram booted first try on this board with no tinkering what so ever. facepalm!

Hey Brother John good to see you. Now I am playing catch up on the thread. I've been sick all day and spent most of the day sleeping, and when I wasn't asleep I've been stuck in the bathroom. Not a fun day.

So yeah the motherboard is here. The CPU and memory should be delivered on Monday, as FedEx does not deliver to home addresses on weekends unless the shipper pays extra for it.

If I feel better by Sunday afternoon I'll go ahead and get everything else set up on the Wetbench while waiting.

Best recover bro Fox. I hope the Sunday will be a much better day 🙂

I'm not so happy in the dark Rog Theme. My old eyes struggle see everything. Dark theme doesn't fit into all I use. I love everything in black but dark Grey color for a few apps with small text would have been better for me. I wonder how it will be in 1440P screen if I can find one. Still looking after a good deal for a new screen. I was too laite or the one I wanted. So I'll see what pop up.
