Hi, i had my first shutdown since 10 months with my clevo 11900k ,3080 (165watt)

it happened while gaming as the cpu and gpu ran full power at approx. 145 tdp for both.

The gpu sits always at 75 celcius  and cpu at 99-100 celcius.I suspect the cpu is overheating  despite fans at maximum

I repasted with grizzly but i can not bring the heat down from the cpu

is this normal ? what are your temps at full power?

i am on 1.07.04 and ec is 1.07.02 ,oc mode is turned off always.

i dont think a bios upgrade would be helpful or ?

Thanks in advance

Ps:at entertainment mode,i have maybe 5 percent less fps but cpu is at healthy 90 degrees

Unvolting the CPU will bring it down

Also I have my FPS locked for every game at 300 so FPS doesnt jump to like 900 causing stress on the system

I  take it happened whilst on Performance Mode in CCC? EC 1.07.03 was stable for me and Firmware 1.07.07 was also stable for me. However 100c might have been what cause the power down in first place.

Not sure what game your playing but yeah for an i9 11900K i would stick to Entertainment mode whilst gaming with max fans on. Also rise the angle of the laptop up slightly to allow fresh air underneath.

But for sure repaste it does sound it needs.

I had the exact same issue (amongst others) with my X170KM. Using performance mode and pushing the 11900k it would sometimes just shut down out of nowhere. Even undervolting and temps being within spec (max 89ish) when running a full CB23 loop it would eventually shut down so it may not be a temp issue only even when I had it pulling at max ~185w.

Thanks for all the advices

Unfortunately undervolting is not an option for me ,I get bsod after few minutes .As far as I read a bios upgrade from xmg is although not a guarantee either .11900k just loves it too hot 🙂

On the other hand, i played the same game (horizon zero dawn) and the same passage again few hours in performance mode with the same temps  without a shutdown

The first shutdown was a little shock ,black screen ,laptop would only turn on with battery removed. At first i thought gpu or motherboard were fryed.Always an adventure with the clevos ,that I had in these years.. bios upgrades, delidding, undervolting, opening, closing the lid for 100th times. 🙂

How much did you undervolt ? Running this thing at 100c is going to put your laptop in the grave sooner then later.

Undervolting is not a option without prema. Everytime i undervolt the system, it crash. It's completely arbitrary.

Its stable with only -40mV, but thats not a big difference.

But you can disable cores or lower clock speed with Intel XTU.

I dont have an issue with undervolting  -110 so it is possible if your system will allow. It could be rocket lake issue.

I would just disable turbo with throttle stop and be done with it

Some thing isnt right here becasue there is no way your GPU should sitting at 75c. Something is off with your fan curve. As my CPU does get hot GPU barely goes over 60c on full 100% load

I get this temps after 5 minutes with aida stability test ,everything on full load. Can somebody reproduce it?

gpu is 69c at max and cpu 99c first 2 minutes than stays at avarage 87-90 c

Is this a bad repaste job from my side?

Right i have a suggestion.

Using either Intel XTU or Throttlestop try reducing the PL2 limit to something lower then 125w and see what happens. If it runs stable and cool, then increase it till it either gets hot or shuts down.

It could be VRM's getting toasty due to contact between VRM and Heatsink not being right or the heat of the heatsink is also passing it to the VRM causing it to run away temp wise.

90c on Entertainment mode is really pointing to a mounting issue on the heatsink. There is no way it should be that high.

you were right!!! i couldnt sleep right and checked the heatsink again ,2 of the thermalpads didn´t sit right and the thermalpaste had voids on the surface .

Maybe you can see it at the screenshot on the right buttom, my new temps are after adjusting for the  gpu 63  and the cpu 82 at performance mode !

Thank you sooo much :-))))

What are the exact technical differences between performance mode & entertainment mode?

Fan curve, PL1 (125w vs 130w), CPU overclocking in CC is only enabled in performance mode and maybe some other stuff deeper in the ControlCenter.

Just a Update about the random black screens. I think it was the cable because i switched back to my Display x USBC and have not had any HDCP issue balck screens where the other cable was doing that.

Glad to hear.

I also have some news which is bad, PCS got back to me and stated i need a new mainboard, however they have one in stock so i have paid for the new mainboard so should be back to normal by end of Next week so long as i haven't killed my CPU as well.

Going to have to put up with Windows Activation watermark for a while after now too as knowing my luck i will need a new Key for that too.

Good news is that i will be getting the old mainboard back as well as the fixed laptop.

Ouch, but at least they have one in stock so you can get it back sooner versus later.

As for Windows, as long as you had an active Windows account you can transfer the license from the old system to the new one with a Digital License.
