long time no see / talk my friend! thanks for the kind words, appreciate it π enjoy your new mobile beast, sounds like u got a good deal on it! also keep up the good work, tons of people heavily depending on that kind of research. ive since switched from academia to the industry, now serving all the "big bad pharma" globals as customers for aseptic filling and packaging for their drug products π as for Hyperion, trying to get as much time on it as possible, but its hard...especially with the new job now naturally taking up a lot of time. also, our new appartment is still strewn with boxes and suitcases, total chaos π have to wait until january to get our new mobiliar in so we can finally tidy up a bit here... in the meantime, my lady is happily growing in size / volume, with the little princess developing nicely as she should π

problem is, once its about their own kids, a lot of people just lose their cool and behave more like animals rather than human beings... and no, im not talking about life threatening situations, everyone would move heaven and earth to protect their kids. im talking about the most mundane stuff π

ha ok, so its just a time saver then, gotcha. i never really did that kinda clock testing, since im not getting anything out of it, id rather put some time into it and use it for something, i.e. benching or gaming π true, i still remember driving eeeeendleeeeesssssllyyyyyyy long until finally reaching the new mexico border π its huuuuuuuuge lol sold ur house, wife and kids into slavery yet to be able and afford a 4090 Ti HOF? xD sigh...sucks big time. apparently, AMD's launch stock for 7000 series gpus is roughly 70% XT vs. 30% XTX. and, of course, NOBODY wants the XT. sooooo if all ure left with is a 7900XT or a 4080 then yeah....suddenly the frigging 4080 super crapfest card becomes the most sold gpu. gives me a headache to see such things happening... the more time passes, the happier i am i grabbed the 4090 Suprim X at MSRP, not looking back! here some more background info on this: so basically, AMD did not want to seem like Intel and keep their word on releasing stuff on time. at the same time they didnt wanna give Nvidia the upper hand for the end of year sales. what gives me hope is that there might still be a lot of gas left in the tank via driver updates and overclocking (partner models and manual OC) to bring the 7900 XTX closer to where it SHOULD be, namely squarely between the 4080 and 4090, maybe even closer to the latter than the former. -

may i ask, what value is this silly test cranking up the vRAM on desktop without any kind of load put onto it? if u click fast enough u might be lucky to skip the stability limit and up the clocks extra before hitting pay dirt i.e. when the system freezes π gimme proper stability! that sux man, sorry to hear that. specific benchmark or across the board? dude, dont phone n drive! π correct. same cards, just different brand name. used to be Galaxy but they had some kinda IP issue so they rebadged to KFA2. gotta check though which submodels theyre offering. same as Asus or others, they have "el cheapo" models like the SG (equivalent to the base models) and higher tier cards within the same gpu class. well duh... texas is already subtropics, so yeah, ppl just aint ready for such temps π although i myself have experienced insane hail storm with friggin ICE FLOATS on rivers that used to be streets n highways in Houston.... "Most reviewers also had their AMD Radeon RX 7900 graphics cards peak out at around 3 GHz, the same as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 series but the performance benefit was far less. AMD will be launching their first RDNA 3 flagships tomorrow so let us know if you have made up your mind about what graphics card you'll be getting tomorrow." solid 14-15% gain from OC, double that of the 4090 on air at 7-8%. still, something fishy going on... need more data! those clocks vs the perf gain dont make sense. a lot of clocks, but not THAT much performance on the table. hoping this gets sorted with some optimizations down the line. as mentioned before, AMD wouldve likely only gone overboard with clocks n power if they had a shot at beating the 4090. like this, they chose the "efficient" route and poke fun at the monster 40 series cards π be patient brother, give it a few days or a week. and most importantly: check in regularly, cards will come back in stock here and there! π hand in there bud! -
dont forget the 900 series, as well, we had the 200W BEAST 980 DT in mobile π congratz man! as for SB, thats a known issue on Clevo, ull probably need to try lots of different stock drivers to find exactly the right one that works for ur machine. then make sure u dont lose it! π well that sucks... π

welp, in theory i could start building a 10gig wired network now with Hyperion under my wing, but yeah...wifey wouldnt approve of long running cables through our appartment, so Wifi it is π

glad such classic hardware can still find a new home nowadays π good luck with the sale! -
where is that facepalm reaction smiley when u need one?! dammnit Ngreedia! im hoping that DDR5 SO-DIMMS will get a speed boost from these upcoming mobile CPUs π currently still stuck at 4800 with one single kit available at a measly 5200. way too far away from desktop dimms!

ha ikr, counter-intuitive indeed. the only comparison that comes to mind are flash based NAND chips that dont like being too cold either. i sure hope this has nothing to do with Roman's Strix 4090 experience, cuz that would mean there is something systematic going on across all brands and models of the 4090. OC.net users are pretty aligned on that vRAM finding representing cards from all vendors, basically... but but but....what if i wanna do skydiving with my laptop?!? or go into an astronaut centrifuge at full speed while holding my laptop in front of me with bootom cover removed and SO-DIMMS dangling loosely in their sockets?! surely THEN soldered RAM will have its shining moment, no? geeez dude, if ever ive seen a more perfect FUNCTION OVER FORM declaration than this one π€£ only saving grace here is that AMD can produce their chiplet cards waaay cheaper than monolithic Lovelace, so more buffer to counteract price drops by the green team. DDR5-8000 kits just became available here in Europe, crazy stuff... dude, with linear scaling and an added 10-15% that would completely change things! awesome man, keep us in the loop on how ur plan is going π i wanna see such cards in real user hands! damn dude, impressive ranking! congratz on that, tons of hard work (and fun!) has gone into that, u make us proud π with regards to AMD sandbagging the clocks: im guessing it still wasnt enough to beat the 4090, so instead they went the "efficiency" route, yelling: HA HA! look at those silly overbuild, overpriced, over-energy-consuming ndgreedia cards that dont fit in your case and set your house on fire! better take our safe bet cards instead! -
wouldnt that depend on what Nvidia might call a "4090 mobile"? we might end up with a 4070 chip that they just elevate to a 4090 cuz...theyre crazy like that π
-
lol not many times someone says hes sticking to laptops otherwise hed go overboard with a system π hilarious considering the price/perf ratios between laptop and desktop hahaha

haha im aware of that. but saw lots of users on overclock.net reporting worse OC headroom once they lowered their vRAM temps after waterblocking their cards. seems to be a trend. edit: aw, bro @Talon beat me to the punch π -
always crazy to see how fast such hardware flies off the "virtual shelves" π
-
difficult to judge if that is a lot of not π comparing to 125k+ sold 4090s, might just baaaarely be enough?

its nice that they do it for a good cause though: "100% of proceeds benefit St. Jude Childrenβs Research Hospital" damn u guys, +1900 - 2200 is insane π i can only push mine up to 1700 when it starts crashing. for 24/7 ultra stable with zero artifacting i have to dial it down to +1525, but not yet done testing though. the issue with the liquid X might be temps, i.e. its cooling the vRAM "too efficiently" so it loses OC headroom. the vRAM on the 4090 does really like to stay warm for high clocks! -
