it took yeaaaars for intel to start competing on price with RPL..nvidia isnt there yet, amd will need to keep up the pressure for several gens to come until nvidia will budge even just a little. thing with nvidia is also, they just keep delivering without fault. intel didnt do that, they always played last minute catch up and had issues and delays with their process nodes. so nvidia will be a far far more difficult opponent to crack for amd. but this is definitely a good path red team is on, theyll have to keep this up! -

if u go purely by Mhz, then no, Zen4 can definitely not compete with RPL. but thats no surprise, been like that for years now 😋 i chose AM5 based on earlier availability and platform longevity. 13th gen is a deadend platform and single digit performance gains aint gonna convince me to invest money and time in it 😄 that dude sure is smth else... as for the temp drop, not surprising considering intel didnt change anything with the ILM. yep that was my thought as well. the basic principle and construction aint nothing special though, unless were talking about customized form i.e. for zen4. for the die size, dont forget that ull have to add the main die and the 6 MCN together, that would equal 522mm2, so not thaaat far away from nvidias 600. although great to see AMDs latest offering, i doubt this will kill off nvidias sales, theres always gonna be nvidia only fanboys and ppl who get suspicious if the competition's cards are "too cheap". more expensive HAS to mean better right? Intel did the same thing for decades, thats why its so surprising that now with RPL they started to compete on price. im thinking AIBs will deffo have more headroom than on nvidiai cards, esp..when it comes to performance deltas. should be interesting to see how well rdna3 scales with power! yep, no comparisons was strange...but might be marketing philosophy, i.e. focus on our own stuff, dont give the competition any more spotlight. ha, just throw in a 4090 and ull be back in cpu bottleneck land 😂 if nvidia wants to, they can and will. unfortunately jensen has a steve jobs like god complex. itll take a LOT before green team gives in 😅 yep agreed on the amd side, they should come pretty close to 4090 perf with their offerings. but of course well need reviews first to get a clear picture. for nvidia's side, difficult to judge at this point how they will react to the competition. drastic price changes or adjustments in lineup are unlikely though, esp. now after the embarrassment with the fake 4080. logical in our eyes, sure. but nvidia doesnt think that way 😅 -
hmmm no VRM cooling....is morpheus including those wimpy lil addon heatsinks again for vrms? they should offer smth for that. also, am i understanding that correctly? 360W TDP is with PASSIVE cooling? i.e. adding fans increases that? that sounds a bit over the top, 360W WITH fans would be more realistic. and in that case could be a tight fit cooling a 4090, or even a 3080 😅

noice, are you already making headway on getting your hands on an HOF card or is that more of a wishlist item currently? we want deetz if its the former! 😁 geez, 2x16 pins, completely bonkers... ok i think were misunderstanding each other here: "adapters" i define as added cables between the psu cables and the gpu. "native" cables i define as cables that go directly from the psu to the cpu. and im not just making this up, publications like GN share the same definition (i.e. as stated in their latest gpu power cable testing video). for the latter with 8-pin connectors on the psu side, im not talking about third party or first party addon cables for pre-existing psus. there are actually brand new psus that come with such cables included in the box, so no aftermarket upgrade shenanigans going on. as for why im being skeptical regarding the higher number of 8pin connectors on the cablemod offerings: that often quoted 150W spec is set for the gpu side connectors. has nothing to do with 8 pins on the psu side. i.e. according to corsair their psu sided 8pins are actually specced for 288W per item iirc, thus ure totaling 576W via 2x8 pin + 75W via the pcie slot = approx. 650W that would still be inside spec. but that is likely dependent on the psu manufacturer and psu model i could imagine. with that being said, if the cables ure offering are actually up to snuff and sport sufficient wire gauge, as well as high quality soldering job, why the need to branch out to 3 or even 4 connectors when the native cables from the actual psu manufacturers (again, included with brand new psus just recently launched, NOT as addon for pre-existing models!) only include two? AND are ALL rated for 600W or more with so far zero incidents reported? sure guys, i get it, everyone loves cablemod, they make "nice looking" cables and winning hearts with their planned 90 degree adapter. doesnt mean we have to throw critical thinking overboard now does it? 😋 congratz man, 36 years is crazy! what did u guys do on your special day? hope u enjoyed it to the fullest! greetings from mexico btw, currently on my honeymoon with my lady, its "only" been ten years since we became a couple 😃 yep ive seen Romans comments on the cold snapping during delids, deffo smth to keep in mind for upcoming ones! the last i did for my lady's 12600 was also with some prewarming via a hair dryer, fortunately no issues during that delid. i wouldnt call that gimmicky! im actually planning exactly that, to install an internal display for monitoring purposes. esp. since my enthoo pro 2 provides MORE than enough space for such addons! however, i have to agree that the execution by asrock leaves a lot to be desired...my plan involves a simple usb powered hdmi display at 10.1 inches thats normally used to raspberry pi applications. ha! i was smiling when i saw that vid, thinking straight of u and the rest of the gang here surely drooling over such a cooler 😂 easy, cuz the imc is only part of the equation. the other three are dimm quality, dimm temps and mobo trace quality. edit: ah, took too long with my reply, @tps3443 was faster 😋 -
aw man, really only 20% uplift? that would suck! was it software or hardware raid when u tried that? and yeah no worries on the backup, will be getting an 18TB spinning rust soon for exactly that purpose. plus, worst case, since its all just media its not highly unique personal data. that high priority data i always keep on my highest reliability / newest drive for added peace of mind. oh highly interesting, thx for linking! ill get to reading that right away, really wanna know wtf is going on with zen 4 perf on win11...

its interesting to see how many ppl ive seen highly recommending this short anime CP series. seems to be quite a thing!

check and see if u maybe have additional mem options somewhere else in the bios. sometimes u have redundant memory and cpu tuning settings under different submenus. otherwise, try and read out the xmp profiles of ur sticks in windows via software (make sure they actually have xmp 😉) and then set them manually via custom profile in bios.

welcome back to the fold buddy! seems like we joined NBR at roughly the same time 🙂 ull find lots of NBR refugees here at NBT, should be fun!

well that sucks then if u only have M.2 slots to populate... makes high capacity drives quite expensive indeed. and yeah, im curious to see what the 990 pro will bring to the table, supposed to be released by end of this year / beginning of next. judging by the specs known so far, this shouldve been the drive that 980 Pro didnt turn out to be if u ask me 😅

thats actually what im currently doing with my SATA drives: previously in my Clevo i had the 2x4TB 860 Evos set up as JBOD, but now in Hyperion i switched to RAID 0 for better sequential performances. makes sense since all the data on those drives are media, so tv shows / movies / games, etc. thus i can profit from the improved seq speeds. once theyre full i can add a third sata drive and bam, 3x the single drive performance with 50% more capacity 😁

lol ure making a lot of assumptions here my friend 😄 first up, no one said anything about any cheap amazon noname branded cables. im actually talking about native 12VHPWR cables that are shipped as part of highend PSUs, i.e. Seasonic or Corsair that actually sport 2x8 pin connectors on the PSU side and the 16-pin connector on the gpu side. all those cables that are natively shipped and included with those psus are rated at 600W. the 3x vs. 4x 8pin connectors was and is a discussion for the adapters provided by third parties like cablemod or Nvidia as included with the 4090s. those go between the psus and the gpu as a potentially added point of failure. and those would either be rated for 450W with 3 connectors or 600W with 4 connectors. so then: if the cables included with the PSUS and rated for 600W all sport 2x8 pin connectors on the psu side, then why would cablemod go and suddenly make those 3 or 4 connectors? unless they just took the wonky adapters as design reference and copy pasted. dont tell me that cablemod knows their stuff better than someone like corsair or Seasonic, that suggestion aint gonna fly 😄 be that as it may that cablemod is known for their products, but so is Nvidia. and look what their crappy adapters are causing atm. so thats not really an argument... and just aa a preemptive note: there hasnt been a single case of the aforementioned native cables included with the PSUs that melted or went up in smoke 🙂 so they must be doing smth right. so, all this put together, in the context of the native 2x8 pin psu cables i find it "interesting" to say the least and a bit sus at the worst that cablemod would come up with a 3x8 pin or 4x8 pin design that is reminiscent of those crappy included adapters that go up in smoke left an right... -
iirc u should have an option in bios called battery flex or smth similar. u can set when it starts and stops charging, i.e. start at below 70% and stop at 90% or so. @Snowleopard u mean 990 pro? havent heard of any 990 evo drives yet. also, whats stopping u from going with 4TB sata drives? u can get the 860/870 Evo lines at 4TB for like 350-400€ new and 200-350€ used. if u then need more speed just RAID 0 them up and off u go 🙂

im glad its on their radar, win11 is a trash os for sure but better they try and make it run better on the new hardware than letting it pull down everything with it into the abyss... 😅 yeah man, totally agreed esp on the ssd part. its sad to see that seemingly we only have two options left going forward: either higher capacity ssds with crappy reliability, i.e. QLC or even PLC and without DRAM cache or ultrafast highend drives that cost an arm and a leg at higher capacities (if they even exist, mostly just capped out at 4TB). why not offer smth with best of both worlds? at current, the best option for high capacity is still samsung 860/870 evo series at 4TB. raid that shit up at 70-80€ per TB cost and u can sleep easy with TLC, DRAM cache, 5yr warranty and samsung reliability. plus, increased performance with each added drive. so why not offer 8 or 16TB drives like that? put it in a 2.5inch enclosure for sufficient space and offer it with an M.2 or pcie adapter for higher speeds. pcie 3.0 would already suffice to lower costs 🙂 otherwise well be stuck forever at stupidly increasing heat ouputs, empty performance that doesnt translate into real world advantages and the same TB sizes for each and every gen....at higher and higher costs. meh....
-
yeah, as with any other hardware u should look at the benchmarks that most closely relate to your actual usage. sequential data transfers are usually at the forefront of ssd marketing but most users dont really use that in daily operations.

poor you, youre definitely cursed in ONLY being able to reach 7600 on the ram, best to throw that trash cpu out with the board and sticks, not worth all this sorrow and hassle 😂 not really sure how that has anything to do with being German, but ok, whatever floats his boat i guess haha. seems like hes really interested in your chip! huh....well, as long as u dont actually have to upgrade to latest OS as @Mr. Fox said after that, then all is well. but otherwise would suck for benching older hardware on software that requires benchmate. honestly, i would test the waters and see how far u could push up the price. if you can really get double MSRP then absolutely go for it. u say you couldnt be bothered for such a headache but i mean think about it: receiving payment and preparing the package for send off is not really that much work. pretty sweet hourly rate if u ask me haha. as for pricing, research some of silicon lottery's previous pricing, rates skyrocketed pretty fast if u went up the rarity scale, esp. in the single digit realms. as for the "work" of shopping for another chip and tuning it: cmon, thats part of the fun, that aint "work" 😋 id say push it as far as u can and then go for it! weird, why would that cable have four 8pin connectors on the psu side? most if not all native cables ive seen so far have 2x8pins on the psu side and ALL of them are rated for 600W+. is this some kinda 1200W+ rated cable? seems a bit sus to me tbh. lol mr. fox and friends sounds like a sitcom 😄 agreed with this stance. if you want political / religious / sexual orientation / gun laws / blah discussions, u can have that aaaaanywhere in real life, on tv, on social media, etc. its everywhere anyways and ppl rip each other's throats out because of that. i for one like the community spirit at NBR before and here at NBT now. lets continue discussing and sharing stuff that unites us, not divides us. for flame wars, go to reddit, fb, twitter, 4chan, etc. got enough of those around... yep agreed, in this context 1k is not enough. but as mentioned before, he should push it as far as he can and see what could be doable. no reason to make a definitive decision now. lean back, enjoy the ride, see what options u have and then decide. if he sticks to 1k, deffo not worth it. but if it goes up to 1.5 or even 2k, go for it, easy money 🙂 -
so far ive been the type to let the heatsink do the spreading, ive only dabbled once or twice in manual spatula spreads. im guessing its just a different application philosophy. GN for example seem to prefer the manual spatula spread, so might produce more consistent results in the hands of an experienced technician. i imagine the spatula method would allow for varying heatsinks with differing surface properties (porosity & bend), as well as mounting pressure. whereas the heatsink spread method is easier to implement if u stick to the same heatsink and mounting pressure. just a hyothesis on my side though. in the end, such discussions will likely have much less of an effect than the utilized paste or cooler itself 😄

i found it weird not to be able to move my machine anymore, although i seldomly did anyways. i find it nice to have more space on the desk now, with only kb and mouse in front of me. but omg all that extra screen real estate going from 15 to 32 inches 😁

haha glad the "trash" card is treating u well 🙂 what are u getting on the vram? poor @Receiver, doesnt he already have enough on his hands in keeping us in line? hahaha said it before and sticking to it: ill be one of the first to applaud AMD should they be able to beat the 4090 in any circumstances 🙂 damn, 8600+, thats insane... i already feel so old n slow with the 6600 M Die modules in my system... 😂😅 LOL ok, hes got it under control...and yep, as i said, already busy enough with keeping us in line 😂 word, i had the same thinking with going native 12VHPWR yep i had the exact same issue when i first put together Hyperion, wouldnt boot at all because i put the sticks into A1B1 (which normally makes total sense since theyre closer to the cpu socket). but nope, A2B2 first! no idea why they chose to go this route. -
haha thx for the kind words guys. and no worries, the updates will resume once im back 😁 still a TON of tuning left to do on Hyperion! big fat greetz from the Yucatan

nice little future proofing, nothing wrong with that 🙂 should deffo run cooler at the limited 3.0 speeds!

working up the courage? is it that intimidating? haha

heck yeah i was worried when those stories first came up. i checked my 4090 like every 5 minutes for any power cable sag / bend! such an elation to find out the issue likely lies with the standard Nvidia 8pin to 16 pin adapters! best decision i ever made in such a context to go with a high quality seasonic psu that has a native 16pin PCIe 5.0 power cable 🙂 plus, the humongous Phanteks Enthoo Pro II case also helps, sporting more than enough "girth" to leave sufficient space for the power cable protruding from the gpu, basically no bent at the connector itself and only very gradual bending of the cable downstream from the connector.
