  1. i think for now they just need some time to reorganize and get their new priorities straight. as understanding as their actions against Nvidia are and as honorable as EVGA's CEO appears to be, i also got the feeling that he follows a thick-headed approach to things, i.e. "were gonna do / not gonna do this because I say so and it feels right". give it some time, im pretty sure EVGA still has something to contribute to the PC component market 🙂
  2. depends on the sticks id wager. iirc the Kingston HyperX 2133 sticks are actually SPD programmed, so should be pnp.
  3. yep, with EVGA out of the picture i was a bit in a pickle and had to do some research on the other AIBs. seems like ill get the Zotac top tier 4090, mainly due to their 5yr warranty option after registration. considering the gpu will make up roughly 25-30% of the total system cost, i think warranty will be my main focus 😅 plus im curious see that curvy 4090 cooler in real life 😄 aside from that, 9 heatpipes, vapour chamber, dual bios and 24+4 VRM design sounds good to me! isnt the issue compatibility though? morpheus II has been around for quite a while... um....WHAT exactly made TH give that piece of crap 4 out of 5?! wth 😵 the very first thing bro papu will do with white components and white crocs is grab a black sharpie and go nuts 🤣 sweet setup! im also hoping for enough space in our next appartment (currently on the lookout) to set up a monster desk for my monster build. a guy needs space in his man cave! 😁
  4. oh wow that was fast! wasnt MX-5 basically only just released? makes me wonder why they suddenly sped up their cycle... i keep wondering if the Honeywell 7950 performance is due to its material properties, i.e. being able to balance out wonky laptop heatsinks or if its thermal conductivity is really THAT good. im cautiously tending towards the former, considering this paste is used for mass production OEM purposes.
  5. one @Mr. Fox rant a day keeps the doctor / BGA sickness away 😁 always refreshing and a pleasure bro haha. tho i have the sinking feeling u are indeed correct, the NH55JNNQ machine i got for my lady will likely be the last highend laptop I ever purchased. Ill try to keep it alive and kicking as long as possible. as for my Batman P751DM, ill likely be selling it off in parts (be on the lookout in the NBT marketplace for that!) to be able and use the money for the monster desktop and a new phone (waiting for the Pixel 7 series in Oct)
  6. depends on the paste and its viscosity, but in general its also no biggie. ull only need to get a feeling of how much paste is adequate for ur particular chip / heatspreader size. after a few tries ull get the hang of it, for sure 🙂
  7. oh dont get me wrong, the knowledge and skills is there, alongside the willingness to share and help out fellow enthusiasts. its more about the interest and engagement being the bottleneck regarding a specific sub-topic or "branch". doesnt help anyone if we have dozens sub forums with most of them sparsely populated, if at all.
  8. i put my sights on the upcoming Pixel 7 Pro. sick n tired of walled gardens, i want my customization freedom back!
  9. if youre comfortable with it, choose the base config and get everything else via aftermarket upgrades, i.e. installing it yourself. anything related to RAM and storage is a breeze, same with wifi. gpu i would get with the machine, cpu depends on if socketed or not.
  10. soon super broke gamer kid coming through... 😅☠️ u know, this is really ridiculous, pricing for the 4090 is actually "senseful" when considering inflation, but 3080 and 3080 fake edition are just bonkers. shouldnt it be the other way around? for anyone looking for a nextgen gpu ill also recommend waiting to see what RDNA3 has to offer, this gen should be the most competitive ever vs. Nvidia, the only reason why the green goblin decided to go so overboard with power consumption = keep the performance crown at any price (and 4090 Ti in the back hand just in case AMD surprises them). unfortunately for me waiting will not be an option, so my eyes are fixed on the 4090. my lady and me got our first kid on the way (yay!) due in mid march, which simply means: an extra month waiting is an extra month gaming time lost 🤪 with EVGA out of the picture, im now considering Asus, MSI or Zotac due to their warranties and/or known well built cooling designs / power deliveries. i think in the end ill just have to check and see how aftermarket pricing looks like for the respective models and decide spontaneously... one thing is for sure though: at 1949€ 4090 pricing in Europe, AIB cards will likely START at 2100-2200€ *sigh* (please let the Zen 4 chips be a bit cheaper than the first placeholder prices listed in France!)
  11. very nicely summed up my friend... so, whos up for a 40 series card this october? my focus is on the 4090 now. i know it would make more sense to wait and see what RDNA 3 brings to the table, but "unfortunately" my gaming days are numbered since we got a kid on the way. so gotta use the time i have left as best i can, which means: 4090 it is for me 😅
  12. aha that might be a culprit indeed! ive never really thought about this but i remember seeing that option as default in bios.
  13. found a post on a free alternative for your situation: https://www.tenforums.com/drivers-hardware/149391-there-way-convert-dynamic-disk-basic-without-data-loss-post1954052.html#post1954052 check and see if this might help you 🙂
  14. Steam Deck might be a good idea, seeing as this is a mobile computing / Notebook forum first and foremost 🙂 naturally, well have to test the waters first, see if people actually post in there. an Apple subforum was successful, for instance 😄
  15. depends what ure looking for. at this point in time there is nothing on the horizon that would qualify as a true X170 successor. so might be that this is the last hurray for desktop-style socketed hardware in laptop space. hope im wrong though....in the end, it depends how much leeway Nvidia still gives Clevo and how much financial sense it makes for them to support such monsters.
  16. the thing that convinced mine was the fact that the show is completely unpredictable. shes usually pretty good at guessing how a series or movie progresses / ends, but this time around shes frequently clueless and surprised haha
  17. aight guys, ill bite: been saving up for 3 years now for my glorious return to desktop land after being a resident of laptop-town for the past 15 years due to frequent international moves. now is a good time for a beastly desktop though since me and my lady are likely gonna be sticking around for the foreseeable future. in any case, so 3 years of saving up and now this: - EVGA quitting the GPU business - Nvidia being as absolute ASS and artificially delaying the 40 series, rumors saying pricing will be insane in order to differentiate from parallel running 30 series cards - AM5 motherboard pricing so far looks completely whack, like....1500€ for the Asus ROG X670E Extreme? are u SERIOUS? - AMD for the second time delaying AM5 platform release (initially slated for 15-Sep, now X670E is delayed further) i know i know, first world problems 😛
  18. speaking of replayability, currently enjoying TItan Quest for the nth time after the multiple recent updates including the new expansion Eternal Embers. this game is from friggin 2006 and the devs / community STILL release updates and new content for it, absolutely amazing! been playing for literally years now and still havent finished the game on all three difficulties LOL
  19. im in the same boat as you gents, was firmly planning on going with an EVGA 4090 due to their option to extend warranty to 5 or 10 years...soooo, whats the alternative? Zotac offers 5 years after product registration and Gigabyte provides 4 years standard but both make kinda shitty cards if u ask me 😅 so that would leave MSI or Asus but "regular" warranties of 3 years.....ugh. maybe i should wait and check what RDNA3 has to offer, according to rumors so far it should be very competitive at basically same performance but like half power consumption.... another option would be to take the risk and get one of the last RTX 30 series cards from EVGA, slap a 10 year warranty on it and hope for the best in the future 😄
