Been debating a system to give Linux a full time shot, probably helps to have basic support so I dont rip my hair out. I have an XPS 9365 , nice little machine. I have Manjaro on it right now iirc

NBR Forums Officially shut down
Reciever replied to Reciever's topic in Internal News / Announcements

A moment of silence for the loss of our old home, NotebookReview. As they have been officially taken down. That is all, for now.
-
Another detail to add is that its present in dark mode (the thumbs up) but in the default it seems to share the same color as its background for me. Archive is looking to be wrapped up with the end of NBR coming, so we will be able to more carefully look at some elements here on the forum for review.

Announced that this was a goal very early on in this forum. This has been something I wish to emulate as well, but havent been able to do as a function of time and means.
-
I had edited the forum rules and I thought I had it posted but it seems this was incorrect. For now I have them posted in the same location as the Marketplace Rules until a better home can be determined.
-
Yep just noticed this, at some point here we will need to make a sub-forum that expands on suggestions for members to formally display how certain elements dont jive or simply dont work. Its good that is also pointed out here, but I fear it could get lost in the noise when a specific function is being articulated.

Its time to "Clear the Air" -First orders of Business
Reciever replied to Reciever's topic in Internal News / Announcements
I know some of you have been posting that you all dont know who Hiew is, he has been taking some measures to address this and will be posting something relatively soon, as this last week has been terribly timed due to IRL factors, please have some patience in this regard. Thanks in advance, and welcome to the forums! -
Good Evening everyone! As most if not all of you are aware, NoteBookReview is slated to be shut down on the 31st. Its 100% the reason why any of you are here to begin with, including myself and @Hiew. There are some tenants of the forum that I would like to announce or further develop. To this end we do intend to launch a series of polls to better gauge the direction that we intend to go. I cant promise we will go with the communities direction all the time, but it will absolutely be the frame of reference in how we tend to certain orders of business. Such matters to look on will be the following: The name of the forum going forward. As we have announced multiple times, efgxt.net is a place holder. In fact the top header used to be NewbookReview as we continued working on the forums here, only to be changed to NBR 3.1B hours before sharing the links with you all. We do fully intend to have this changed going forward. I do ask that you guys/gals wait until about a a week after NoteBookReview's closure to make official changes on that front. Its not quite an issue of the link no longer functioning (as we intend to forward it for some time). This decision was made in order to allow for a respectable amount of time to permit more and more NBR members to trickle in, and have a say in how the name should be made officially going forward. One thing to note is that we will only be polling names that we have already acquired, as sadly we must protect ourselves from bad actors purchasing domains that we projected potential to purchase. Until we make the poll for this change I would ask that any and all name submissions be sent to me or @Hiew via PM, so that we can acquire them ahead of time especially if they are in a price range that we can do that with. If its something we cant acquire we will notify the member that made the suggestion and will leave it to their discretion to share it for forum consideration. TapaTalk, will we support it? A few members have inquired over various mediums to the support of Tapatalk and after some internal discussion can happily announce that we do intend have Tapatalk support. This has yet to be done, but cursory investigations look quite positive. Can we make any guarantees to continuity? Beyond the initial primary functions of this forum, this has been an issue that I want to have squared away. The second question I had for @Hiew after finally asking him if we could make a forum (even if ONLY temporary) was the differing means to focus on specifically continuity of this forum. I believe this to absolutely be possible. The backend functions have been provided by Hiew but I would like for backups to be in the hands of specific people that we trust to do exactly what they are charged to do in the event that we have a top to bottom failure of management to follow through on the tenants that I have already explicitly stated before or in the worst case scenario of me and Hiew suffering mortal wounds and the forum needing to be handed over to the next custodians of this forum. We also have the desire to be as transparent as possible in this regard as well, however, being 100% transparent does introduce inherent security issues so, some elements will not be announced, ever. They will remain in the charge of certain members here that will accept such a charge should the need arise. While I would love to state that there will never be a need, failure to plan is planning to fail. Not to mention, I would like this forum to survive us and at some point be passed to the next generation. Whether or not said members are able to project that role (via a profile badge or otherwise) will be also discussed internally as well as with the community. Does NBR 3.1B own my content? I dont have the "legal" know how to make this proclamation however I can state that I have no desire to own your content. The ones that generate said content belongs to them. This is direct reflection of the issues of being able to post the content from NBR here. If you came up with a great modification, or discovered something that enables better functions, heck even a meme, that content is your own. Please feel free to post here and any other forum! This dictate will never change. If you desire for content to remain here to post elsewhere at your own discretion then I would ask for a disclaimer to better protect yourself from bad actors. Naturally we cant enforce things outside of the forums but internally your content is yours. Funding The issue of funding has come up here and there and many of you have offered donations to which I have refused up to this point. I have a particular personal flaw due to my personal experiences that money always muddies the waters, especially with Friends and Family. In order to refuse that type of scenario here I have asked to please hold on that. We do have some ideas for funding but ultimately it comes down to a sobering point of which I will make here. If no one provides anything at all over time, the forums may likely close. Right now the forums expenses are at a point where me and Hiew can maintain them. However if you wish for this forum to grow or continue to increase its functions then funding will need to come from somewhere. In the age of "social media" where you become the product is now commonplace we would like to make the content provided here the product that over time brings more people. This means that we as a community will need to come together and put our money where our mouth is and contribute. This also means that it is incumbent upon the community to make sure anyone and everyone in management (as of now @Hiew and @Reciever) work towards bringing the best forum possible. I have had some ideas as to different means to support the forum in terms of fiscal contributions. Premium Accounts Donor Accounts Subscriptions One time donations Crypto donations and/or mining addresses I am not of affluent means, and I also am very defensive for when I accept money from anyone. In this regard I wish for, if nothing else, to be beyond reproach when it comes to dealing with money in relation to the forum. Who are you? An interesting question when seriously considered. My name is Chris, currently a technician for a B2B operation in Dallas / Fort Worth area. Introverted loner who enjoys synthwave probably more than I should. My only reprieve is probably NoteBookReview and its community otherwise, the only friends I have are those in Canada of all places. Born and raised in California, having been living in DFW since 2009. Went from the service industry to IT and had been doing various contracting work. An issue that I have (that Im sure some of you had seen in the past) is I always try to thread the needle. Sometimes successful, typically not but I do enjoy the good faith argument. I had been a member of NoteBookReview since 2012, though I dont think I posted as often until after I stopped participating at OCN. Ask anyone in my group and they used to say something akin to "he likes to make laptops run as good as the desktops". @Hiew would often tell me just stop and come to terms with my Ranger being a server, not a personal computer lol. Rules and Moderation I was hoping if this stayed community driven as one group to allow for the moderation team to have the mods continue their roles on the forum. Sadly this did not happen and there are now 3 potential options on the table for everyone to consider. The issue now at hand is that if what I was initially hoping for is seen as endorsement from the "old guard", by extension can be seen as putting our thumb on the scale. I will need additional perspectives surrounding this problem as moderator roles have to be done well. A peculiar problem, as we need passionate people that can also take a step back and objectively maintain order in a heated discussion.

The subject has come up and I have been resistant to it. Perhaps I am inside my own head about the notion, but keeping it on the table for further consideration.

Yeah Ive been stuck on anything in the range of synthwave for quite a while. Mostly started as a means to listen to music to chill out at work without having to worry about lyrics rubbing someone the wrong way.

While it is unfortunate, amongst other things, I fully respect Spartan and years of service to countless members as well as his own customers. For the remaining time left that the forum has I plead for anyone and everyone to make the attempt to keep things amicable. Hey! Happy to have you!

I didnt see this earlier, thank you for the kind words. I do make the effort, threading the needle can seem impossible at times but most of the time I believe its worth the effort even if I have a few more gray hairs for the effort :P And here I am fixing my own mishaps, something to add to the action item list lol

When does your sub expire? There are a number of things we would love to incorporate but we do want to have a community discussion to determine high priority requests and overall direction. Have been mulling it over and was thinking maybe 1 week after NBR is officially taken offline? Should give enough of a chance for more people to be a part of that. A few members have asked about TapaTalk support, its definitely on our list.

If you think someone's price is too high or you want to make a lower offer, PM or e-mail them. There is nothing worse than if you are trying to sell something and someone says that price is too high. That scares off other prospective buyers. On our forums, a lowball is officially defined as an offer less than 75% of the asking price. Buyers offering less than 75% is perfectly fine, but please ask using the PM system. 5) Update your thread when your item(s) gets sold or are no longer available for sale. Report the thread or contact a moderator if you want the thread closed. 6) You MUST post a price for ALL FS (For Sale) deals. 7) You cannot sell something you do not have in your immediate possession. 😎 If you are selling something $20 or over, you must provide pictures of it to show the condition and demonstrate it is in your possession (e.g.: that means including something like a paper note with your username and "NBR3.1B" written on it or a clear picture of NBR3.1B's website on your laptop's screen showing you logged in). Visit: how to post an image. As of January 2021, you MUST include a date on the photo as well. The format is MM/DD/YYYY. 9) Only post tangible items! (No CD keys, game accounts etc.). We make exceptions for Steam games but VERIFY WITH A MODERATOR before posting. Whatever it is, it must be 100% transferable. 10) If software is part of the sale, the original media MUST be included if such media exists. Otherwise, a valid key MUST be included. This applies to all software pre-loaded into a device or just included in the BST. 11) No sale or trade of Not For Resale equipment or software. Also, any software, computers, or media originally purchased through an academic or employee purchase program cannot be sold here unless the EULA specifically grants the end user the right to resell the product. For instance, most APP/EPP copies of Windows Vista cannot be legally resold. Windows Vista Upgrades that were sold with laptops cannot be sold as standalone softwares, and must be included only in a sale with the original PC that was purchased with the upgrade. 12) Be courteous and professional when buying or selling, and please use commonsense. 13) You must wait at least 24 hours before bumping up your thread. 14) Anything listed as OEM must have everything provided with equipment when first purchased. 15) Do not just post external links to eBay or another forum. Add all relevant information to your thread and you can link to eBay as long as previous rules are met. 16) Any payment service that offers a goods type of transaction must be made that way and not as a "gift" payment. You cannot ask for gift payments if another valid type of payment is available. You forfeit transaction protection if you use gift payments. 17) If you have sold items on eBay/Heat, post a link to your screen-name so users can verify your previous history of selling/trading/buying. If you have sold items previously on NBR 3.1B, you may also post user names of those may act as references. If you claim to have eBay feedback, you MUST post a link to the feedback. Saying to PM for a user name is NOT acceptable. 18) You cannot ask for donations (and/or other freebies. Rep included). 19) Absolutely no jokes in the B/S/T forum. Transactions are serious and people will get irritated by jokes involving monetary loss. 20) NBR 3.1B administrators and moderators reserve the right (but has no obligation) to block any sellers who repeatedly fail to follow these rules. NBR 3.1B has a zero-tolerance policy against sellers who market stolen or pirated goods, and those selling said goods may find themselves blocked upon their first offense. If it isn't legal, don't post it for sale. 21) If your post does not conform to these rules, NBR 3.1B administrators and moderators reserve the rights (but has no obligation) to delete any of your listings without notice. Thank you, NBR 3.1B Marketplace Forum Moderator Team NBR 3.1B is not responsible or liable for any transactions or loss. All sales and transactions are done at buyers and sellers discretion and all risks are assumed by those parties only. Admins cannot help to resolve B/S/T disputes. Resources: Post all Want to Buy/Price Check inquiries in the Want to Buy/Price Check Forum If you're doing a price check on an item(s) you might like to sell, searching the completed auctions for same or similar items on eBay is probably a good ballpark of what someone who you don't know is willing to pay for your item for sale. You'll need an account on eBay to search complete auctions, but hey, it's free. Thank you, NBR3.1B Moderator team

Reminds me of Mission Impossible, I just need one more minute, just one more minute!

I enjoyed playing the Multiplayer portion of Wildlands, I found it really fun but the game I guess never took so it faded when I was playing it more often. The other half of our group seems to be playing New World as well on Discord of around 25-30 people? Its not a game I play but if you are interested in mingling with them I dont think it an issue to facilitate that.

In regards to archiving we have a couple of members coordinating on that front. I would ping @Aaron44126and/or @Sandy Bridge to inquire about status to prevent everyone from stepping each others toes and tackle this huge task more efficiently.

Im still fixing up my bucket. RSX Base Auto, luckily most things on it are pretty straight forward to work on but resolving p0505 / p1077 / p1078 has been the bane of my existence these last few months.
