It's finally here 😉 I will have a post coming up in a few days about this project, listing my plans, goals, and explaining everything. I'm still waiting on some parts to get this thing up and running strong. I'd assume most of you already know what my plan is, but I may need some help along the way 🙂 I'm looking forward to this, it should help out the team over on the bot quite a bit 😉 (Don't mind my desk, I will be cleaning the dust and trash after this post lol, I gotta make space for the board.) -

Any of you know of any cheap open air test beds? I will probably need one soon, but would like to stay under 50-60 USD. It doesn't have to be too featureful, I just don't want any of those cheap 20 dollar ones on Aliexpress and Amazon. -
I have to admit, stuff like this is quite impressive. Having an entire computer of this size and still being able to do basic and even advanced tasks with ease is quite impressive. Compare this to the Netbooks of the late 2000's and it completely clowns on all of them. I'm not too worried about the size. While I disagree with the move of including these thinner, less powerful laptops into the "Extreme Performance System" branding, I still believe that it doesn't really matter how thin it is. Most of the people using it aren't going to be running benchmarks, crunching lots of numbers, or rendering anything too demanding, and if they were, they would most likely be using or switching to a more powerful machine.

I've heard that most if not all of the extra pins will be used for power delivery to smooth everything out. This doesn't justify changing the socket though. They could have used LGA 1851 for ADL knowing that they can stick Raptor Lake and Arrow Lake CPUs in there in the future. Intel will probably learn their lesson once they start losing more and more market share to AMD due to the fact AMD can support many generations on the same socket. Only time will tell 😉 -

Wrong thread, sorry guys! -
I don't know the whole story, but Intel pours quite a bit of money into keeping the smaller laptop manufacturers afloat. I watched a podcast a while ago with someone who worked for a Clevo reseller a long time ago and he mentioned how tightly nit all of the resellers and Clevo were with Intel. That's probably why the X270 is using an ARC GPU, and also probably why there hasn't been a Clevo product with an AMD CPU or GPU. I think Tongfang laptops are a bit different though as many of them seem to use AMD chips.

I'll probably go with some K5 then, do you mind telling me where you two purchased yours? I ask because its a less mainstream product, and I would like to avoid purchasing something that is a bad clone. -

Would you recommend that I just use K5 Pro then? I'm mostly worried about the giant gap from the VRM to the heatsink, its like a 2.5-3.0mm gap, you think enough K5 Pro would be able to cover that? Also, how well does K5 Pro act when you take the heatsink off of the applied surface? I will be taking my heatsink off many times in order to modify it to cool the 1070 better, and would like to avoid re-applying K5 Pro every time. -

I tried the NAB pads on my 1070 when I first put it into the P870, and they were horrible. I don't mean they are bad in the sense of thermals, but they were very hard, crumbly, and annoying to cut. They are firm and don't really squish under weird mounting pressure. Not ideal for Laptops. The thermals for everything seemed fine, but I wouldn't recommend using them for laptops with weird/inconsistent gaps and mounting pressure. They seem to be fine for desktop GPUs though, where the gap/pressure is consistent. I've been looking for good pads for the 1070 since the VRM area of the card is bent downwards a bit, and I'm worried about bending it more lol. I've heard the Arctic pads are squishy and good under pressure, but I haven't bought any yet. I'd like to use K5 Pro, but I've heard conflicting reports of its effectiveness and have heard from Fox that it's a pain in the ass to clean up. -

Okay, I get it all now. As you know Fox, the BIOS shouldn't be too much of an issue for me, the only slight problem would be time 😉 As for everyone else, I have a fun little project coming soon that will be useful to myself and the team on the bot 🙂 -

Just for clarification then, all of the CPUs could be overclocked by adjusting the bus speed, but only the 920XM and 940XM could be overclocked by both the bus speed and multiplier? -

For those who have played around with the first generation Core i series mobile chips (Clarksfield/Arrandale,) was the overclocking done by adjusting the BCLK or changing the multiplier for the CPUs? Also, was the overclocking locked by the chipset, or were certain SKUs of CPUs locked/unlocked? -
I could probably use 2 4gb sticks for my X201. Are they DDR3 or DDR3L, and isn't DDR3L supported in DDR3 systems but not vice versa?

Price: $100.00 USD OBO Condition: Fair Warranty: None Reason for sale: Upgraded Payment: Paypal, Venmo Item location: Nashville, TN Shipping: UPS, Shipping included in price International shipping: Yes Handling time: Ships within 1-3 days Feedback: eBay Profile Specification: Core i7 6700k pulled from a Clevo P870DM-G. The center of the CPU IHS is stained a deep black due to the factory thermal paste that the previous owner never replaced. It is just barely readable, but the staining can be cleaned with some Flitz polish. I haven't bothered to clean it because this staining is only cosmetic. Below are pictures of the physical CPU and a screenshot taken before I swapped it out with my 8700k. You may need to zoom in on image 3 to read the etching on the IHS due to the 6700k being hard to see. Proof of ownership:

Above is the RTX 2070 MXM. Compared to the 1080, there are more FETs and inductors in the top left, the RAM layout is different, and there aren't any FETs on the bottom right.
-
I believe not, the layout of the power delivery differs on Turing compared to Pascal.

I was a bit surprised to hear about a GT77 Titan as the GT series was always how I liked a laptop, big and thick with lots of cooling and powerful components. It seems MSI is moving away from the very premise that made the GT series what it was. This is completely stupid to me, and probably means every component will be soldered unless they branch the product off like what they did with the GT76 and GT75 (GT76 had desktop CPU while GT75's were still sold with updated soldered mobile processors.) I don't understand why things are thinning out. CPUs are slowly utilizing more power and GPUs are starting to guzzle the stuff. The SFF community has also realized and accepted that their cases will have to get a bit bigger in order to accommodate the bigger, more powerful GPUs that are launching. Why don't laptop manufacturers and basic consumers understand this? What's even weirder to me is why manufacturers are selling thin, 16-17 inch laptops. They are already big, you might as well improve performance/cooling and general durability if they are going to be big. I feel like if laptops were bigger and cooled somewhat well, it would allow for a great marketing opportunity to say "We have the most powerful gaming laptop in the world!" or, "Our laptop is the most quiet laptop on the market!" To me and other people here, thin isn't impressive. Why? Because thinning laptops out takes away from the general purpose a computer has, which is to perform a specific task requested by the user in a specific time frame. (This is how I see computers at least.) Thinner works for basic computers where one would do basic things, but thinner does not also work for performance-oriented computers where one would be doing gaming and productivity tasks. I feel like I keep repeating myself, this is really the only place where I can vent about it hence why I repeat myself, but the idiocracy of people and corporations irritates the hell out of me, and I want to fix or at least to try to fix it in the future because I know I'm not the only one who is irritated. -

I really gotta stop with the shilling lol, but I'd think some of the HEDT enthusiasts here will like to hear this... -

From the leaks I've heard, ARC will be priced decently, and if not, Intel will have to lower prices to move product. But this whole delay is screwing them over because newer cards from competitors are coming out and if Intel keeps delaying, it could end terrible for them. Even if these GPUs suck when they launch, it will help Intel get on track to hopefully be recognized as a major competitor to both Nvidia and AMD for GPUs, the more market competition, the better things shall get 🙂 I don't want to turn this conversation into a he said she said kind of thing, but there's a leaker I've been following for a while, I started watching his stuff when he was doing Ampere leaks, and he has been mostly right on just about everything he has leaked, with the exception of small bits that he lets the viewer know he and his sources are unsure about. His ARC leaks have been quite interesting and I'd recommend you all check him out, every other leaker on Youtube I have seen has been overly annoying in my opinion, and this guy is the only guy I can sit and watch a video from without cringing. I'll stop shilling this guy after this, but his "How AMD Exploited Intel's Greed" and "AMD Price War Strategy" videos are fantastic in explaining how AMD managed to revive competition with Intel while also slowly taking over market share. I've used these videos to show to friends who are interested in tech how things have changed within the past 10-15 years. -

The reason Arc is taking so long is because of drivers, they aren't good enough yet. The physical GPUs are perfect, and intel has a lot of them, but the drivers are what's holding the cards back. -
I just bought an AX210 a few hours ago lol, bad timing I guess! I do appreciate it though!
