100 percent. This happened to a family friend working at Walmart here. She had been there for years, worked her way up to getting those benefits, and boom. Fired her. Next week, an ad looking for workers. They should be held accountable. My part time workplace is the opposite, I get full benefits, retirement plans, paid time off, flexibility and I work 18-20 hours a week there. I make quite a bit more than someone working at walmart, CDN tire, and other jobs as well. I worked 40 plus hours a week at a hardware store. They hired me for inside the store service, but go on deliveries as needed. They fired a warehouse worker so I was doing two jobs all day at that point, getting paid for 1/2 a job. Now, I make 3 times as much, 1/2 the hours at work and the heaviest thing I lift is an ipad.

What phone are you daily driving currently?
kojack replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
This is the first time (since my 1020), that after 8 months of use, I still love my phone as much as the day I bought it. I have a new flip 6 for work, but I am not feeling it as much as my P8P. The new design of the 9s are awesome but I am hanging on to my 8 pro for 3 or 4 years before getting a new one. -
Latest purchase was a 20ft flat deck trailer to transport sheds and other items I build and sell. I am sick of having to rely on other people to move the finished products for me. she's rough to look at but will get the job done

Agreed 100 percent. I would go ARM before what AMD is offering. Arm desktop systems from Ampere are insane. SUPER FAST. I am just waiting for them to hit the mainstream. 1 or 2 years.
-
bah ha ha ha. AMD, 56% better in blender. NOPE. Not a chance! They are saying these new chips destroy the threadrippers? ha ha. sure. Threadripper for multicore processes are beasts, however, in most software packages the i9 14900k is more performant than the 64core TR7980x. No way this failure of a processor is better than the TR series.

When I went through this, it was in the middle of the price hikes on video cards. I got my XPS for a little more than the price of just the video card. Not sure if this is still the case or not. But I did notice the XPS now is not near as good as mine. only two mem slots, less space for extra drives etc. I think I bought at the right time.

Can a tablet replace an office laptop ? My journey.
kojack replied to Bullit's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
Asus had the best idea back in the day. The padfone. A phone that docks into the tablet to run, then attach a keyboard and have a quasi laptop with pen etc all included. They should have stayed on that path IMO. Imagine how awesome a current technology version of this would be. Microsoft missed the mark as well. -
I guess ole Steve the AMD fanboy is eating a bit of crow here now. At least 80 percent of his videos crap on intel, however, time and time again intel is faster. I am not an intel fanboy, but I like using the fastest processors for my work.
-
Intel's 14th gen chips are much faster than AMDs for creative work, by a large margin too. The 14th gen i9 is faster than that threadrippers for video and photo work.

I am not a fan of intel's business practices right now, but I love how everyone piles on if they have the slightest issue with a chip, meanwhile, looking back through the threads, NOBODY piled on AMD for having burning chips last year with their 7000 series. Why is that I wonder? AMD Ryzen 7000 Overheating Issues: Culprit Found in EXPO & SoC Voltages (update) (guru3d.com)

Holy crap, steve likes to talk. I can't watch his videos. just rambling on without punctuation or cadence. blah blah blah. He needs to up his delivery game. Slow down, take a breath and relax a bit. The bigger story is how intel cleaned house and laid off 15,000 people to "save money". That's what pisses me off, not a design flaw in a chip that will be RMA'ed if you have a failure. Those 15,000 people will not be RMA'ed and their livelihoods saved.

Acer AC100 mini server upgrade/mods. Should be interesting
kojack replied to kojack's topic in Desktop Hardware
Not yet. Everything is on hold, even my basement renovation. I have sheds backed up I need to get built so any free time I have I am driving nails. Every day until dark after I get off work from the store. BEAT! I would say my little server will be worked on in the fall when my time is less stretched. hang in there, I will be posting when I order all the crap for it. I haven't had time to poop, let alone work on my own stuff. -
I use TransulcentTB and Power start menu from the MS store. TB does exactly what it says, makes the taskbar translucent and give a nice modern look. Power start menu removes recommended section from the start menu so you can just have your apps tiled like it should be, and makes the start menu very aeroglass...ey in looks. It's awesome. I have no desire to go back to old looking windows 10 look. Windows 11 is faster, better looking and more enjoyable to use.

You need to be a starlink home customer to get the mini dish added on. Then it's not unlimited use. I would rather just buy a second dish, and take your home router with you.

See the /s at the end of the comment indicating sarcasm. Apple users think their devices are magical impenetrable devices. I know better.

Yes, the CEO of crowdstrike. Microsoft had nothing to do with this. I love the internet. It's great for spreading BS. CS affected linux as well. Apple no, because we all know apple doesn't need any protection /s.

Get the snapdragon base model surface. It does all of that, it has an awesome screen which maxes out at 890 nits. fine for daylight viewing, it has a user upgradable ssd with no tool access to the drive (magnetic door) and one screw to swap drives. and yes windows wakes up just by touching it. either the fingerprint sensor, open the device and windows hello just opens your device for you. I have owned a couple of surfii in the past and the weight is not noticeable in your backpack. My ipad 10th gen with Logitech keyboard is way heavier. -
Yes agreed the forum won't be going anywhere. Most here are into gaming and benchmarking. I bring the creative side of the platform. I use my devices for creating videography, photography, Graphics and podcasts. I don't game, and I sure as hell don't overclock and benchmark the crap out of my systems. I use mine to make money. I think I bring that view to the forum here. Right now, my lowly Dell Inspiron 5406 chews threw my 1080p video / podcast work with relative ease and it also does all my photo editing including denoise, upscaling etc very very quickly. It also comes down to what software you use. But thats where I am in the notebook side of things. This place has a variety of people with interests separate from the others which makes a great place to learn and gain knowledge. Not just about notebooks, but computing in general.

I have some parts ordered. The two bay NVME enclosure a 512gb for OS, a 4tb nvme for project use and 3x32tb exos hdd from segate. Where the path is only so fast using the dual nvme enclosure raid is not needed for any speed increase. I will get better performance working from the server with a 4tb ssd for project use. We will see how TrueNAS handles the drives in this fashion. I can't see it being an issue now since all drives will be going through the sata ports in the hot swaps. Buckle up, this is about get bumpy ha ha ha!. Then on to getting it access to our wifi network in the house. Since we are using bell, that might be a whole other ball of wax to fix.
