I know both my EVGA 1600's (T2 and P2) had/have a slightly loose socket. The power cable itself mounts firmly in it but the socket itself is flexible a bit. I thought this was for the heft and weight of the cable and support.

This is different: there is a noticeable gap between the plug and the socket, and the resulting wobble and play were real. The mount wasn't convincingly secure. Once the plug is wrapped in electrical tape (not much, ca. 3 layers), it sits in the socket securely, although there is a tiny bit of extra play of the kind you describe.

Again, TBH not ideal product delivery from Corsair, but - given the triviality of the issue - that's bearable in presence of @Mr. Fox's workaround. Most likely an problem with the specific UK C-19 cord they used in this batch.

Otherwise delighted with the unit so far, apart from the stellar efficiency and basically silence, so far there is a very clear improvement of stability. I'm running RAM with a whopping 20% tighter timings with no issues (whereas before errors would show up straight away with the same settings).. The monitoring / software config is quite nice too.

I'm also trying a bit of OC this time, whereas before the 13900K system was never really fully stable even on stock settings (longest uptime 2-3 days maybe). Interestingly 12900KS managed to stay stable, albeit after a long period of painful tweaking, which most likely could have been avoided.

TBH I had no idea an old/poor electrical quality PSU could have such a detrimental effect on the system. I thought the whole nitpicking of voltage regulation in PSU reviews was just marketing. Now, it's early hours, will need a good couple of days to reach the final verdict.

18" Alienware with 4000 series soldered GPU and 13th gen HX chips incoming.....BGA in an 18" chassis?

I hope this doesn't happen, but I know it will, and it's just ridiculous. Who in their right mind would purchase a giant laptop to use as a "DTR" but runs hotter than a SFF desktop while also not being as serviceable as one either.

I've heard the argument of people saying, "but these new chips are so fast, and are built well, you don't need to upgrade them or swap them out in their lifetime." The problem is that these HX chips that are basically slightly cut down desktop chips running on a BGA package and not being cooled well. I'd be willing to bet money that these things will fail in a few years unless they are throttled to all hell, but throttling them defeats the purpose...

And don't' even get me started on the neutered mobile GPUs. Just basically take the name of the GPU of any new laptop, and view it as the desktop variant, but down a SKU. Long gone are the days of Pascal where the mobile GPUs were toe to toe with their desktop counterparts.

I dunno, it just doesn't make sense to have such a giant laptop with soldered components. These proposed 18" laptops are in a weird gray area, too big to be feasible mobile machines, but too small to be a good desktop. (Unless they have serviceable components and adequate cooling, which I doubt they will have) At that point, if you want something that big, just build a SFF desktop.

This 3090KP is plenty powerful, so getting a 4080 is a silly move for me. I’ll probably get (2) A770’s instead. Then I’ll have (2) gaming PC’s. Plus, I want some A770’s to help support the cause against Nvidia lol. I’d rather give my money to Intel lol.

I'm so glad to not care about Alienware, or for that matter any brand, laptops. Alienware has been producing garbage computers (notebooks and desktops) for a very long time. It seems totally illogical to expect that they would do anything right or good. I hate them all now. I view all laptops as trash. Alienware just tops the list for their mastery of hypocrisy and betrayal. Their fall from grace was a self-inflicted wound.

You will always produce garbage if you don't listening on the consumers. If they did it would increase costs. So better continue the same way as before. Some is fine with garbage. Hence no need for a change.

Alienware Aurora R15 offered with 13th generation Intel Core and GeForce RTX 4090

Alienware Aurora R15 offered with 13th generation Intel Core and GeForce RTX 4090

Dell has introduced the New Alienware Aurora R15 gaming PC, which is compatible with the 13th generation Intel Core processor and GeForce RTX 4090. CPU performance has increased by up to 68% by supporting the 13th generation Intel Core processors.

The CPU temperature is stated to be 5 degrees Celsius lower by supporting a 240mm radiator for cooling. Furthermore, a 12-phase power circuit with a heat sink and a new enclosure with improved ventilation improve stability.

Less castrated vs previous gen chassis and cooling means Dell can eak out a bit higher performance numbers than expected for 13th gen Cpu. Isn't that incredible?😇

Intel WILL improve their GPU performance more and faster over time versus the established big players. Not because they are better, but because they have so much untapped potential to still squeeze versus the others that are milking all they can out of the old cow. I really want an A770 just to tinker. I've always liked Tom, such a force behind many of Nvidia's achievements. I'm glad he's helping drive the ship over at Intel.

Intel just released beta drivers that optimize a few more games but more importantly WoW:Dragonflight. The card was already solid for WoW, but with the beta drivers I'm getting crazy good performance with the A770 @ 2560x1600 on the wife's display. Everything to max, RT off and it hits ~65% render rate locked at 60fps (her display limits). Letting it run free and 100fps+. Turn on RT full Ultra everywhere and it is still hitting 60fps just about everywhere with Render Rate sitting around 88% locked at 60fps.

When she had a 3060 and 3070 in there I had to dial it back to Level settings 5 and 7 to avoid dips into the 40s. Only the 3080 was able to fully handle ~60fps Ultra 10 RT on Ultra everywhere with no blips.

I am astounded to get this much performance in a $350 card at 1440p.

I can't wait to test the drivers out on the A380 on my daughter's rig and her Dell 25" 1080p 240hz display.

They seem to be releasing drivers every other week which is a seriously frantic pace.

Haven't heard a peep out of MLID.

Intel has made significant progress with DirectX 9 performance on its Arc Alchemist graphics cards. The latest 31.0.101.3959 driver(opens in new tab) brings up to 1.8X higher average FPS and up to 2.3X improved 99th percentile FPS on the Arc A770, one of the best graphics cards on the market.

I loaded an Arc A770 in my shopping cart last night and walked away for a couple of hours. I really want one, but I changed my mind and emptied my cart because I just can't accept the idea of never using Windows 7 again on a system where it is installed, and the fact that enabling CSM/Legacy mode severely cripples it due to Arc's reliance on adjustable bar support to function correctly. I felt very sad, but probably not as sad as I would have been about being forced into doing things I do not want to do. I know that day is coming whether I like it or not, but I'm not OK with embracing it. I will still be resentful and continue loathing the dumbing down of Windows "garbage as a service" when it happens. I'm not going to make my molestation easy.

How do you guys know what the best GHz and voltage combination is for best performance for the CPU? The GPU? Are there a general set of guidelines to follow when trying to find the best stable overclock/undervolt?

Are you looking for the best general performance or for a specific app? Is this desktop or laptop?

How I start anything is defining my cooling potential. From there, I learn more about my chip's quality or lack thereof. For gaming or general compute, I start at the predefined allcore boost clock and then start lowering voltage until it isn't stable. After that, I start working on RAM within that stable allcore/voltage. Once I have got the CPU and RAM stable, that becomes my "safe base" setting which I save.

I did pick one up. I am very curious on how it will perform, especially now that they are improving DX9 support. I also want to experiment with it in a cheap photo/video editing rig.

Bro @Mr. Fox You remember I posted info about Alphacool's new cheap powerful fans? They come in 120 and 140mm + up to 4000 rpm.

See Alphacools press release here. Check how the fans looks like in design and shape.

https://www.techpowerup.com/301430/alphacool-unveils-core-120-pwm-and-core-140-pwm-series-case-fans

I ordered these fans for the build to my middle son

I checked first Alphacool and then the web store Aquatuning who sell their products. I ordered from them.

The 140mm fan is exactly what they advertisee in look, shape and design. All good.

Then we have the 120mm fan. What I got looks more as a server fan.

The Manufacturer no.: 24845 is verified correct for my 120mm fans and what the Manufacturer + shop offer.

On the box with my fan it say Article no.: 24845. But what I got is something different.

What I got is on left. A server fan but with the correct article nr. Fan on the right is the correct fan I expected to get. This is so damn disgusting.

image.thumb.png.93b3d04117eca5967a25925b4d28351a.png

Even the EAN: 4250197248457 nr is correct stamped on the box I got but I didn't get what I ordered. Then compare the design vs server fans below. The fan I got have even an ugly colored cables. And the uvly colored cable is 30 cm. Not the 40 cm as advertised. This is not what they showed in the press release.

image.thumb.png.b653077b0343b03c9243c66fbbf8126e.png

See... Alphacool 120mm server fan. Stamped ES as well. Same design as the fan I got but with different label, and product numbers

image.png.ff4fc4e7d90bbae8cafd45bd01c21cef.png

Now I'm very angry. Soon Christmas and the  shipping is a problem before Christmas holidays.

Edit. And the cable is 30 cm. Not the 40 cm as advertised in the press release. The quality control is a huge disaster.

Finally got the Aqua Computer high flow NEXT I bought on the used market here home.

One pump connected... 270-275 l/h or 4.5 l/min. Yep, the max l/h bragging from any pump vendors sales page or many review sites is pretty useless. Igorslab reviewed this flow meter vs his expensive flow meter tool. Fairly accurate measurement from his testing. So this is it.

Bro Fox. I like the EK-AF Angled 2×45° adapters. I prefer these over the short sharp right angled 90° fittings. If you have the needed place in or outside your chassis then the slightly bigger arch can reduce the unwanted sharp 90° angle to help reduce water flow restrictions. Maybe not the big gain with one or two but if you need a few of those 90° adapters for your custom cooling then I expect it will help on the water flow.

As picture and masurements above. Single pump connected... 270-275l/h or 4.5l/min. I have now added the second pump... 391.8l/hr or 6.53l/min. More as a backup solution for the first pump. Loop.... Pump and resevoar-WB-pump-Rad.

If Win7 compliance is a must it is going to continue to be a rough road ahead I'm afraid. 😞

Intel has clearly forged a forward thinking path shedding a lot of previous compatibility as has Nvidia. I'm unsure what AMD's status is in regards to Win7.

I see it as most companies eventually EOL support for legacy OSes especially with newer products but also the fact as you mention, "garbage as a service" model is changing what an OS is and what it provides in a detrimental way.

I did pick one up. I am very curious on how it will perform, especially now that they are improving DX9 support. I also want to experiment with it in a cheap photo/video editing rig.

I hopped on board as soon as the A380 was available in limited quantities in August I think and my initial assessment was potential but WoW ran a little rough and older benchmarks stuttered or didn't run at all.

Now? The drivers have matured so much and continue to gain steam. Bi-weekly updates and as mentioned before WoW runs really well.

I love the stark white "intel ARC" logo and EVGA logo running in tandem. The classic blue Intel lights that have just a hint of maroon dance through the bar matching the lights. She let me know I'm not taking this one back no matter what on pure aesthetics. 🙂

Yikes! SO MUCH money. Looks like the pre-tax price in your area is precisely equal in absurdity as the prices are here. At least $1,000 more than what it is worth. I am both jealous and not jealous at the same time. Congratulations. You have waited a long time for a GPU upgrade.

Thanks bro Fox. Yep, I have waited long time for new cards. I usually is happy with older cards. Not a gamer but sometimes it is nice to have something newer. I am a moderate man when it comes to spending money. I retired early from my job due to poor health, so. I'm happy with used things. Nothing of it need to be new.

The Tax hell here is real. Read this and I think you'll feel very bad. I do. I'm a cigar smoker and the Norwegain Government will take away my chance to buy cigars/smoke at half price  in Sveden. They will cut down what I can take with me over the border.... Norwegian Special.

Still waiting for new tobacco rules: - Preparing for and running out

In short...

The tobacco quota in the state budget
The proposal in the state budget is to halve the tobacco quota from 250 grams to 125 grams, and cigarettes from 200 to 100.
While today, for example, you can buy 15 boxes of snuff (16 grams each), the Støre government's bill means that from next year it will only be allowed to take seven and a half boxes with you.
The rules will not apply to anyone other than Norwegians living in Norway. Tourists will still be able to bring the current quota – 200 cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco – into the country.

And Norway is flooded with money, gas ad oil. But the people have hard time live here. The government hate us.

Thanks. There is only a few model I wanted. Strix and MSI Suprime X with or with out Liquid. And the Suprim is cheaper than Asus Strix. Asus is disgusting! And the boat card (Zotac) The trash card @johnksss😀 Not my wording. Is 8% more expensive than MSI Suprim X Liquid. So MSI it become. I have had hands on MSI cards before... Not really my brand. Only The LIghtning cards was of interest from this brand.

I hate brutal winters. We have it every damn year here home.... Wind, snow, cold, rain, and hail storms that come one after the other. Ice cold, then snow then rain. Or opposite way. This from November and into middle May. + the dreaded dark here North last many moths. Rest of the year... Green winter. Not great place living for my broken health.

My interest in Linux has never been as great as it is now. I hate feeling forced into choosing the lesser of two evils. Linux is a fantastic option in a myriad of way, and a truly horrible option in a few ways. Windows 7 going EOL is unavoidable. I wouldn't be as upset about it except for all of the deception and strong-arm Nazi crap they have stooped to in an effort to force adoption of the new garbage OS. I mean, blatant lies about things such as compatibility and functionality that have been deliberately crafted to deceive and mislead the public. Adjustable Bar, SpeedShift, UEFI support, DX12... an endless list of bald-faced lies and bullshit from abject losers that make no apologies for their nefarious behavior. It makes it difficult to not hope for tragedy to utterly destroy the Redmond Retards and collapse their Empire of Filth and Mediocrity. God forbid that they would ever actually care about what is good for, or desired by, the users of their products. They are not worthy of any of us being users of their products garbage.

Yeah, that is really bad. One of the most beautiful places on earth governed by evil and criminally insane socialists. I wish you and your entire family could relocate to the United States and leave them to drown in their own feces. It is weird how the corrupt and insane members of society seem to have a way of ruining the world's most beautiful places. I see that trend here is the States as well. I live in an ugly place now because the gorgeous places where I used to live, for many years, are controlled by depraved lunatics.

@Papusanisn't it shameful how so many of these irrational nutjobs that want to demonize, penalize and outlaw tobacco use are simultaneously pushing to legalize drugs (to generate revenue for the government, no doubt) and provide needles and other paraphernalia,  normalize immorality, pay for genocide with taxpayer money,  rewrite history, ignore constitutional law, create division and racial strife, destroy the traditional family and brainwash our children to advance their agenda? They represent their agenda, not the people that pay for their excessive and undeserved wages.

I don't want to live there but with snow like that, I would love to stay one winter. I may sound crazy (some think I am) but I do want to visit some of the coldest places on earth. The only reason why I've stayed in the Northeast is due to the four seasons we get here and when we get snow, we get buried. Your snowfall looks a lot like the snow Buffalo, NY gets. I'm slowly getting my wife ready for either Colorado or Vermont. Before I sleep my final rest, I need to be near a wilderness, as my backyard.

Anyway bro, congrats on the card. I am sure you are going to do some major damage with that card in benching.
