I can see where the technology would have some usefulness. But, how many people watch Netflix or other similar streaming entertainment subscriptions with their gaming PC? Maybe I am just old and old school, but my computers are not in the living room. If I am going to watch TV, I will go sit in front of the TV. If I am using my computers it is for work, benching or gaming.

I don't remember what the extra Netflix charge is, but it's fairly minimal, and clearly any Netflix user with 4K display should just get that, instead of falling back to smart upscaling. As for the main use case for this, I suspect there will be an overlap with the main uses of 3D and VR lol

Netflix basic is $6.99

Netflix 4K is $19.99

I know it’s not anything special, I just think it’s cool that our GPU will take an old 480P video and upscale it to 4K automatically, we don’t even realize it’s happening.

Well, all depends on how well it works in practice. Did they take the unorthodox measure and optimise it for the likely target content? :)

On a more serious note, it would be quite impressive if this worked well on a variety of source material. "Super resolution" feature on my LG TV does zip, and AFAIK DLSS has to be trained for each specific game.

Also wondering if it was technically necessary to restrict this to Ampere+, given that 2060 Super performs about the same as 3060 (and clearly 2070 and 2080/Ti outperform it), or just another d... move from Nvidia.

Popping in for "fact check"

DLSS 1 has to be trained per-game but DLSS 2 and up use a generic model.

NVIDIA has confirmed that Turing (2000 series) will also get this AI video scaling function, within the next few months.

Ah, OK. Still, the point stands - DLSS-quality upscaling of generic video content would be an impressive achievement, as DLSS 2+ in turn requires very rich and precise additional metadata which is not directly available when upscaling general video content, and thus upscaling video games is an easier task.

I just clicked on a random 1080P video to test. And the YouTube quality is AMAZING! 1080P is upscaled to 4K and it looks just absolutely amazing. That GPU power usage is kinda heavy though lol. At least the lower resolution videos will look better.

I’m thinking probably Nvidia RTX laptop users will stream Netflix/YouTube/other services on their laptop.

With Edge or Chrome browser it’s going to upscale everything to 4K using GPU tensor cores.

That's interesting. When upscaling videos, they can dedicate the entire GPU/all RR cores to the task, and usually there will be fewer FPS to deal with.

Anyway, here is a FAQ: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5448/~/rtx-video-super-resolution-faq

No Linux support mentioned, so a bit of Linus love for them for now.  No wonder though, as Nvidia is basically at Microsoft's mercy now and kind of vice versa which is ironic. An evil dual monopoly.

For those on 13th Gen - TDLR; Buildzoid spends an hour crying about/bashing Intel 13th gen chips for not being able to handle 8000+. He has used a lot of Z790 boards, including the Z790 Dark for his 8000 memory testing.

I guess for right now, don't spend big money on DDR5 rated for 8000, as it is useless? He cracks me up though.

I confirmed that one of my local MC's (Yonkers, NY) allows the warranty upgrade trick. Since NY has four or five MC's, I am going to see if the others allow this. I found out through a buyer of a gaming rig I sold to, that a lot of people do this.

I know at the end of the day, monetary wise everything works out in MC's favor, but it is still a crazy concept to allow. I assume their warranties are a bit more costly than the average consumer electronics warranty.

As it was explained to me by a higher up. They know the game and they are on board for now, but it's to each MC's location to make that call. Denver is not having it! I called and asked.

Will anyone pay $1,650 for this brown ugly and massive overpriced 4080 card? The vanilla 4080 is already disgusting priced at MSRP. Slightly quieter at the cost of higher temps. And the card come with the quiet vbios set as default.

This brownish Asus 4080 cost equal as a 4090 FE. Are gamers this stupid? @Mr. Fox Or just ignorant? Or can they be both? I know @electrosoftgo after most quiet hardware, but I don't think he would pay for this Asus tragedy. Not many models is uglyer than this. It seems Nvidias partners can design whatever they prefer and people will still be happy with how it looks.

Again... Why would anyone pay $450 above a 4080FE for same class GPU? Is the poop brown colored fans so fantastic and a must have? I don't get it.

You just can't use a Riser cable mount with this in your chassis. Why is it so damn difficult make black fans in 2023? $450 premium for this. You even get one fan less than many other models and still have to pay more. And you won't gain any performance increaase. This is robbery of worst sorts.

Well, you and I are kinda in the same boat as Buildzoid. While he does get to keep free samples from Gigabyte (mobos only), he is on his own with everything else. MSI samples him but he has to return those components. Asus and Asrock refuse to sample him because he constantly slams their products. Outside of again Gigabyte and G.Skill, he has to buy all of his parts...even G.Skill doesn't give him their highest end products.

I would imagine if he were "nicer" to the corporate overlords, he would get more free parts. However, since he is accustomed to long rants, his true feelings often come out, lol.

I would keep the vBIOS and attempt a clean Nvidia driver install. I've seen it where a new vBIOS will cause that black screen issue until a clean driver install.

After a couple failed attempts to use PTM 7950 thermal pads on my desktop rig, I gave up on it until the new 7958 came to market in paste form. I ordered a few tubes from Ebuy7 and they arrived this morning from FedEx.

Stock clocks, undervolted, and running quiet fans on the 420m AIO. The core to core deltas are the best I've ever had. Initial results were about half as good. But after an afternoon of curing and results are amazing. Far better than my previous Gelid Extreme stuff. Best of all this stuff just paints on, easiest paste I've ever applied.

Ebuy7 is killing me. Basket items have poorly translated with names such as

Suitable for Honeywell PTM7958SP phase change silicone grease cpu thermal paste notebook radiator graphics card 7958

or

Honeywell PTM7950SP phase change silicone grease cpu thermal paste notebook radiator graphics card 7958SP silicone grease

Bro @Talon, would you have a link for the item you so successfully ordered?

@Mr. Fox doesn't look like derBauer has any LGA1700 delid tools available yet..

What's funny is that Noctua has the same fan in Black (chroma.x). Exact same specs as the brown A12...

The brown never really bothered me but I don't build around aesthetics, so I don't tend to see anything in the case when I have the choice. With today's glass everything I guess the issue is more pronounced.
