I so wish we could have a MicroCenter here. I don't really understand why there isn't one. There is no doubt in my mind it would be wildly successful, and Arizona is one of the most favorable venues for business due to the very conservative approach, low property taxes, super-low income tax, etc. That is why Intel, AMD, TSMC and Motorola all have huge facilities here. It is  also a very tech-friendly enviornment. The state rewards businesses and business owners here rather than punish them... very similar to Texas.

Now that Fry's is dead and gone they would have no competition whatsoever, unless you count Best Buy. I wouldn't count them because Best Buy generally only handles the mediocre middle-market consumer product models and components that I'd never consider buying. As a general rule, they do not stock or sell enthusiast-grade components. There are random exceptions, but few and far between.

even though im not located in the states ive heard this complaint about "PLEASE GIMME MOAR MC STORES!" basically eeeeverywhere. seems like they have a very very cautious approach regarding expansion and would rather focus more on expanding / pimping up their existing stores. cant blame them, high level of competency and service is not easy to implement. same goes probably for EVGA, thats why theyre always late to the party and always low on stock (everyone wants their good shit! 😄 )

Yes I think you're right about both companies. The only thing that I find that seems somewhat contrary to that, and a bit confounding to understand why any company would subject themselves to such nonsense, is the fact that MC have a concentration of stores in the most business-unfriendly and predatory government states. That's contrary to good sense and hard to understand. It seems like a business run by people with  good heads on their shoulders would do the opposite. It is anyone's guess what kind of special/secret arrangements might facilitate operations in an otherwise hostile business environment.

Well, the Byski RAM water block lowered my temps by 10°C under load at 6800 CL30. I love how easy that EK manifold makes it to add components to the loop. Literally zero fuss involved. When I receive the Supercool bare die block, I may test if the RAM load temps improve further using thermal paste instead of thermal pads on the memory ICs.

(n)ice! do the lower temps help with stability / oc on the ram? also how far up do u dare to go with the vdimm on ddr5? 1.575 is already quite impressive 😅would be like 1.72V on ddr4...

Yes the memory temperatures definitely affect stability. It did with DDR4 as well. I had aftermarket heat sinks on the DDR4 memory because once it went higher than about 40-45°C it started having memory errors. With DDR5 I start having memory errors as it reaches 48-50°C. I don't know how high I'd be willing to go with the DDR5 voltage. It's probably close to as high as I'd want to go right now... maybe 1.600V max.

The stock memory heat sinks on the DDR4 and DDR5 that I have had are junk. They're just very thin sheet metal that did nothing to help the temperatures as far as I could tell. Temperatures were close to the same with no heat sink. They seemed to be there more for aesthetic purposes than anything else. Naked memory modules aren't particularly nice looking.

This just show how important miners was both for Nvidia and AMD. Their only chance to push prices well above MSRP for next gen cards is to limit supply. But not so sure they want to do that. At least not nvidia who don't need the silicon for Cpu's as AMD. Better try sell twice as many cards than push out less cards to keep up disgusting prices. We will see when the fall come... There is pressure on the Global economy (worse times for everybody now - and it will last) so not so sure it will be easy try trick people into new very expensive gear. At least not if they try put prices where they never should be.

Wish we could know the truth about how many graphics cards nvidia+AMD and its partners have thrown out to the miners. This outside the retail channels. We will probably never ever get the real numbers.

A couple of problems here, at least for me:

- There are no current game releases that I care about. All of the AAA and Indie current releases look stupid to me. Even if that were not true, the idea that a free game would be a way of drawing me in is just laughable.

- As I am not interested in AMD products, the 6900XT price would need to be around $500-600 before I would grab one.

- The 6950XT is a joke from the NVIDIA playbook that smells like nothing more than the equivalent of a 3090 Ti scam from the red side of the aisle

- While I do prefer NVIDIA the 3090 Ti would need to fall to about $700-800 before I would consider grabbing one. It would be a minor upgrade for my 3090 KPE (maybe) and primarily a path for replacement of my 2080 Ti. By itself, it is an annoying distraction, an unnecessary product from a deceptive company, not a compelling upgrade from 3090 KPE.

So, there you go. My preferred brand is annoying and deceptive. The alternative is from a doubtful, unreliable and uninspiring brand that needs to sell me their flagship product at a price point that is at or near a loss before I would find it a potentially attractive option. Fun times... not really.

Sooooooo, miners must have moved out of state as my Microcenter has RTX cards for days! And at the best prices they been in over a year. So i guess they are NOT buying up all the GPU's.

From the artcle posted below.... 25% isn't far from 33% who is 1/3 of all graphics cards sold.

At the same time last year, it was estimated that approximately 25 percent of partner manufacturers' graphics cards go directly to miners . That interest has now cooled, at least according to one of Asus's CEO SY Hsu . During a meeting where the company's financial results were presented, Hsu explained that the recent price reductions are related to the fact that the demand for graphics cards for breaking cryptocurrencies has decreased.

Asus: "Miners' interest in graphics cards has cooled"

According to Asus' CEO, lower graphics card prices are associated with reduced profitability and extinguished demand for graphics cards for mining.

I think justice often works itself out in time. Getting money for nothing doesn't really deserve to end well for anyone. Wealth needs to be earned. Even when it is inherited, somebody earned it in the beginning and it is appropriately acquired. Crypto isn't earned and it is intangible. There is no basis to complain about it losing value because it is imaginary money. There is a real basis to complain and be fearful about savings set aside from money earned and years of labor sustaining devastating losses. It is sobering to think some of that might be caused deliberately. It's laughable to think that crypto losses would be given a second thought or carry any weight in that same context. Stupidity and evil are becoming the new definitions for normalcy.

I have to agree with this 100%, but certain situations like the "crypto price drop" I am acctually cheering it on because the lower it drops when I get a payout the lower tax rate I will have to pay!!! YAY

Yeah, I can't bring myself to spend cash on it but I'll spend cash on mxm cards and run my laptops to death and my electric bill, but like the stock market it will go back up. In "The Wolf of Wall st" Matthew McConaughey told Leo "its like a plane, it goes up, it goes down but it never lands" Yeah I know its not the best advice but it really gives me Hope!

Hey has anyone heard of this processor from this co. Tachyum Prodigy, https://www.tachyum.com/ they are making some substantial claims in performance, I'd like to get this in a robot.

I think thats a smart move, it just doesn't have enough of a foundation to rely on BUT if it takes off I'd like to have a hook in it!

Stupidity and evil are becoming the new definitions for normalcy.

agreed, thats what i try to keep telling ppl who go all hype and want to "invest" into crypto. its not backed by anything except belief, might as well go to church instead, would likely have a healthier mental bump than these imaginary coins.

sure, some might say that fiat money is the same, i.e. imaginary or that the stock market in general is also only based on belief. but both is only partly true, because both are based on something everyone can relate to: real economies, real companies with employees, real work being done, real goods and services being exchanged. and crypto? it goes poof, comes out of nowhere (= being "mined" via solving artificial equations that dont lead to anything except burning as much electricity as whole countries), is based on the "belief" that one might "get rich quick" (gotta love those schemes, eh?) and then disappears into the night during the next crash as if it was never there. and SUDDENLY people bitch around that theyre gonna be homeless and lost their life savings?!?! like, seriously? NEVER invest NON-disposable income! investing is by definition disposable because of inherent risks involved.

sorry for the rant, but from my side there is absolutely NO feeling sorry for the idiots jumping onto such hype trains and spending basically their whole material existence on...well....nothing! 😅

oh and please dont start with "currency of the future! decentralized! anonymous! power to the people!" BS. as if anyone is using crypto as actual currency, its basically just digital chips being gambled in a global casino...

Well the scary part is if for what ever reason petro isnt traded in USD, it too would flop quite quickly in a similar fashion.

I do like the idea of less control from the Gov't but im under no illusions as only a couple of coins truly follow that principle, of which I own none.

I wouldnt put my savings into crypto, too young and volatile imho. I do like the mining aspect of it all, and if I am alerted to one of my coins doing extremely well I will pay more attention to it but otherwise I just let it accrue.

While I obviously have a stake in the argument, getting rich would basically mean enough to take care of my student loans and fix up my car. You wont find any Lambo's in my garage 🙂

Hey look. MSI released something as tacky-looking, proprietary and stupid as an Alienware, LOL. This isn't a current product, but it might as well be. It certainly fits the current trend in a PC space targeted for children and stupid adults.

Well, I installed the Supercool direct die block and my temps are a little bit higher than they were with the copper IHS. The installation was pretty straightforward. The CPU was already delidded, so there wasn't much effort involved. To rule out the possibility of user error on my part, I am going to remove it and check to confirm the liquid metal application was adequate and test once more before I decide if I should go back to using an IHS. This would be the first time ever in my experience that direct die cooling did not result in an impressive improvement. I am impressed with the Supercool 10th Gen direct die block, so I am hoping this is a result of user error and not a flaw in 12th Gen product design.

Edit: I had previously done the ILM washer mod so I will also remove them to rule out the possibility that is a factor.
