In Windows 10, there was a switch to disable telemetry via the group policy editor that worked if you had Enterprise installed. I'm not seeing it in Windows 11 Enterprise. Did they change the name or get rid of it all together so that you need to still use O&O Shutup10 and WindowsPrivacyDashboard?

Use all tools in your tool box. No harm in doing that.

Ah OK, they just moved it and I wasn't looking in the right place. I've subsequently installed W10 Enterprise on my desktop, but I'll keep this image handy for future reference.

Windows 11, version 22H2 might hit RTM this month.

(..."RTM" doesn't have the same meaning that it used to, though.)

it's "funny and interesting" that modded / debloated windows installs have become more and more obligatory with each new version of windows we get...

i wonder if this might not be a new line of revenue for microsoft to come up, pay good money for a naked/debloated version of windows 😋

They could make LTSC widely available to accomplish that, but then they would lose money because they would have less stolen data and personal information to sell or use for targeted marketing, business intelligence, etc. The bigger issue for me is the fact that I no longer view them as being an entity that is worthy of any trust. I have basically zero confidence that they have the best interests of those that use their products at the forefront of how they conduct themselves. And, that concern doesn't even speak to the issue of their lack of intelligence in product design and the low level of competence they demonstrate.

So, to be clear, all new devices will ship with a new version of W11 that includes "Smart App Control" and they (the Remond Mafia) want existing W11 users to wipe and do a clean install of W11 that includes this Nazi filth so that Macro$lop can dictate what applications will be "allowed" to run on W11.

You can disable it. Should not have to. Shouldn't exist in the first place. BUT, if you decide to turn it back on for some bizarre reason, you'll have to do another clean install.

Yeah... I don't think so. Not only no, but hell no.

Winduhz 10/11 Kool-Aid drinkers really need to watch this video, but I know most of them won't and some that do with rationalize that the things talked about are OK. Sad times, with even sadder days ahead. The stupid sheeple that surround us are a danger to themselves and to the rest of us.

Isn't it cute? Microsoft will start offer a worse product than its rival Apple. Who could imagine that this would happen a few years ago?  Apple offer different OS depending on what HW you have. Microsoft don't bother with that (One fits all). And now they will force you to use their Microsoft account if you want to use their newest OS. Apple offer an bad package, but M$ sailing up as equal now. Sometimes even worse!

From the article... "This is an industry-wide trend. For example, Google has always forced Google accounts on Android phones with Play services. On Apple products, the process isn’t mandatory and it is possible to set up your iPhone without creating an Apple ID, but certain apps or services like App Store may not work properly.

And be you sure.... Micorsoft will plug the loophole in the registry where you can circumvent the obligatory M$ account when you install your new and shiny touch friendly OS. They hhave removed needed reg keys before. And they will continue thighen the screw.

For those of you that are Win 11 (Microsoft) fanboys. Maybe you all should run out and buy the new and shiny box? Cute pictures? Microsoft have even printed on their most ugly OS wallpapers images ever on the retail box.

Maybe the EU lawmakers will put an nail in the death coffin for this sickness. The U.S. Government and regulation authorities is pretty toothless and can't see how bad their biggest tech companies has become.

EU will enforce the Digital Markets Act in Spring 2023 and it could allow iOS users to install apps from third-party sources

The European Union will enforce the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in 2023, and this could have a huge impact on Big Tech companies such as Apple, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and Meta (Facebook). Among other things, the law is expected to allow iOS users to install apps from third-party sources.

They can't won't even do something as simple as securing the border, so it would be foolish to think that they would be inclined to be bothered with the notion of worrying about how dangerous big tech has become. Doing the exact opposite of what makes sense is probably part of the strategy.

The coolest thing is the full system-wide dark mode. It's not perfect, but the developers are working on an updated version that should fix most of the outstanding issues.

Did they really remove .NET Framework 3.5 as part of a routine monthly patch?  That's the sort of change that should (at least) be reserved for a feature upgrade.  If they're going to be doing those yearly, they can afford to wait for one.

Did they really remove .NET Framework 3.5 as part of a routine monthly patch?  That's the sort of change that should (at least) be reserved for a feature upgrade.  If they're going to be doing those yearly, they can afford to wait for one.

Nope. They tried fix bugs they introduced with previous monthly patch (where they tried fix problems that occured with programs that use .NET Framework 3.5). Of course they screwed up this time as well.. That's the usual from the Redmond based monkey company. Nothing unusual here🙂

If you installed the May 2022 cumulative update on Windows 11, you might have noticed that many of the apps you use all the time aren't working as they used to

Came across this project and thought it looked interesting: Rectify11

The coolest thing is the full system-wide dark mode. It's not perfect, but the developers are working on an updated version that should fix most of the outstanding issues.

looks interesting for sure, however im always concerned about custom isos due to security etc. as far as system wide dark mode is concerned, the same thing can be achieved on windows 10 with the Grey Eve theme GitHub - nitschis/GreyEveTheme: A Dark Grey Windows 10 Theme

Build 22621 might be the "RTM" build for Windows 11 version 22H2 (SV2).  ...This means little more than "we're not bumping the build number up any more"; there will still be more cumulative patches issued between now and release and those will include new features as well.

https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-may-have-confirmed-build-22621-is-windows-11-22h2-sv2-rtm-release/

Still, you can get the ISO for 22621 already.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewiso or https://uupdump.net/known.php

(While my "excitement" for Windows 11 remains quite muted and I do not intend to use it as a daily driver OS, I will be tossing this into a VM to see what's what.)

[Edit]

Maybe not.  I know there are ways around this but I don't have the energy right now 😛

(Previous version / original release did not block me here.)

[Edit 2]

In-place upgrade using the ISO also blocks you.  Users running "unsupported hardware" will have to jump through hoops to upgrade from Windows 11 21H2 to 22H2 (more than just downloading the ISO and running setup).

Windows 11 KB5013943 is crashing PCs with BSOD, antivirus firm Sophos warns Windowslatest.com

Mayank Parmar - May 15, 2022

The problems introduced by Windows 11 KB5013943 (May 2022 Patch Tuesday) are pretty serious: it's crashing computers with Blue Screen of Death if they rely on certain drivers required for apps like antivirus....

This cumulative update was released to fix a number of issues and bugs in Windows 11, however, it seems like Windows 11 KB5013943 is causing the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) on some systems with specific drivers, including those that support antivirus software.

The problem is also present in the update for those using Windows 10, but it’s worse on Windows 11.

To fix the BSOD errors, Sophos recommends uninstalling the update by following these steps:

  • Pause Windows updates to prevent the update from installing.
  • Select Start > Settings > Windows Update.
  • Pause updates for 7 days.
  • Open Control Panel.
  • Click Programs And Features.
  • Click View installed updates
  • Look for KB5013943 and uninstall it.

And Microsoft will also make the life harder for the Windows admins. Bad and buggy messed up patches ain't enough.

Windows admins frustrated by Quick Assist moving to Microsoft Store

Windows admins have been expressing their dismay at Microsoft's decision to move the Quick Assist remote assistance tool to the Microsoft Store....

Attempting to upgrade from Windows 11 22H1 (original release) to Windows 11 22H2 (build 22621) in-place, using ISO media.

The Windows 11 22H2 (build 22621) installer does not appear to respect the TPM bypass registry entry documented by Microsoft.

y4m1m2C5XjCa0iRmxCAltPmEk2bWvRz7JPN62j_F

This "LabConfig" / "BypassTPMCheck" one does not work either:

y4mCsxT_A_vAYFbQfIjDvcv1_F8w-9Vi58KjVlLu

In the end, I bit the bullet and stuck a virtual TPM chip into my VM (requiring me to "encrypt" the whole thing, even though my host disk is already encrypted), and that allowed Windows 11 22H2 to install.  Windows 11 is not complaining about the CPU, which is 3rd gen / Ivy Bridge.
