Another reason im glad to be using LTSC, seems microsoft still havent learned. I remember this exact same tactic when i was using windows 7

Just set proper settings in bios and the OS (those that don't match their new HW requirements) and you won't be forced into this tacky and ugly tablet OS. There is no need for people on older Win 10 versions to accept this shenigans. And if you are on Win 10 versions that won't get any more patches (EOL) there is no need to have any of the services for upgrades enabled. There is scripts and software out there that can handle this if you can't do it yourself.

its just in our best interest, newer is always better and naturally way more secure to always run the latest updates and software 😁

Just like masks and COVID "vaccines" (which are not even actually vaccines). Some people place extremely high value on placebos and token expressions, and some people sleep better at night just knowing they did something, even if what they did is of absolutely no value. Don't even bother to mention that what they did was potentially harmful or they'll have an emotional breakdown. Go ahead. Upgrade Winduhz and enjoy that warm, fuzzy feeling inside and don't worry about your computer running slower and being more insecure than the OS it replaced... you did the right thing. You obeyed your master.

am not on windows 11 nor do know much about windows upgrades ect. but to me new upgrade would catch my attention only if they make windows better faster than previous versions. like android adds new features. better ram management better battery more performace ect,

i think android pie was the last with new feature that were worth the update. i care more about improving performance. than be able to have stickers on desktop.

I wonder if someone could take something like this and use it as a base to build a lightweight Windows that's actually usable (for browser, games, ...).  Seems like its pretty bare-bones but it does support running Win32 apps.

Maybe could find a way to invoke Windows Explorer without bringing the other cruft along (a la Windows Server) and then you'd have something sort of normal to start from.

New has to be better. Always. Isn't that true bro @Ashtrix @Mr. Fox? Do they even test it before they push it out? Or maybe the few Guine pigs they rely on for testing don't bother report it as "the new has to be better"?

Windows 11’s new Notepad is apparently slower than the original Win32 app

Microsoft apparently made the refreshed Notepad available for all Windows 11 users a few weeks ago after testing it with a limited set of users. The new Notepad matches the refreshed look of the of the operating system. Similar to Paint and other Office apps, it has been updated with a Fluent Design makeover, which brings rounded corners to many areas....

Even new released Winaero Tweaker can't fix this OS.

Winaero Tweaker 1.40 is here with new features and fixes

I am releasing a new version of Winaero Tweaker. Traditionally, there are some fixes and updates, as well as new features. It now can properly recognize Windows 11 22H2 and its successor. Also on Windows 11, it will allow you to show tray icons on two or three rows, enable stickers, remove the Spotlight icon from Desktop, remove "add to favorites" from context menu, and more. There are also new features for other Windows versions.

Tried the amd64 and ISO is not bootable in EFI. Also tried wimboot and ran into same issue. The odd thing is Image version still use Win 10.x.x build 22H2. Is it Win 10 with new UI and sys. reqmt were overestimated to kick out working PCs. The ISO size is 399MB

One more bug: June updates break login process for Windows on ARM

Quickly after releasing June Cumulative updates Microsoft confirmed a bug that prevents the user from enabling a mobile hotspot on Windows 11 and 10. Sadly, it was not the only bug introduced in this update. Another issue affects ARM versions of the OSes and breaks the login process.

Microsoft acknowledges that a Windows 11 update is causing serious connection issues betanews.com

And Microsofts engineers prefer do it the same for their whole product stack....

Recent Windows Server updates break VPN, RDP, RRAS connections

This month's Windows Server updates are causing a wide range of issues for administrators, including VPN and RDP connectivity problems on servers with Routing and Remote Access Service (RRAS) enabled.

Doubt there's any specific reason to jump to 11 Enterprise on this PC as a second boot (since I'm dailying Fedora, keep LTSC around for a couple of games that have weird issues), but gotta ask where you all are at with that since I don't have a damn clue on it.

Not necessarily "news," but I found a couple tricks that have helped improve my Windows 11 Home experience. When run as admin, the attached .bat file will enable Group Policy Editor so you can tweak everything in there.

The other one, which IMO is more important, allows you to use Windows 11 Home with a local account. Here's what to do:

  1. Install Windows 11 as normal, but be sure you're connected to the Internet when the first welcome screen appears.
  2. Go through the setup procedure as normal, and when it gets to the screen that prompts you to create/log in with a Microsoft account, press Shift+F10, which will bring up a command prompt.
  3. Enter "ipconfig -release" (without the quotes) and press enter. This will kick you offline. Close the command prompt window.
  4. Click the back arrow at the top left of the account creation Window. There, you can enter a local user name like you could with other previous versions of Windows.
  5. Complete the initial setup process, and when you're on the desktop, launch an administrative-level command prompt window again and type "ipconfig -renew" which will restore your Internet connection.

I'm sure Micoslop will eventually patch it out, but for now, the above is a pretty painless way to work around this arbitrary and stupid limitation without having to install a Pro or Enterprise license.

More chatter about "Windows 12" dropping in 2024, restarting the three-year cycle between major Windows releases.

(Will Windows "X" Enterprise LTSC 2024 be based on Windows 11, or Windows 12?  Wouldn't be surprised if they don't even decide that internally until pretty late.)
