  1. Something I thought about was mining during a downturn might be better, you would lose money, but you would make more crypto, which would benefit you next upturn.
  2. Taken from archive.org. I didn't bother filling out my profile there I guess.
  3. I intend to get a 2080 Ti when they get cheap, probably after 4000 series launch, but I have too much stuff I want to buy and I dunno what to do.
  4. Yeah, I've been using custom firmwares since my second router. All my routers have come from thrift stores, so I'm usually a bit behind the latest tech. My first router was some old Cradlepoint thing, sadly it got no custom firmwares and was 2.4g only. I then upgraded to a Linksys E3000, which I fooled around with firmwares on, and discovered that I like Tomato the best. Later on I got some Netgear thing with similar capabilities as a range extension for the network. A few years later, a slight upgrade to the Linksys E3200, which didn't do much, I think I like the E3000 better just for the better looking design. And finally, we get to my WRT1900AC v2, which unfortunately doesn't have any Tomato based firmwares. Also I have a couple of access points and routers that I got from a friend sitting in a box, not sure when I'll try fooling around with them though.
  5. Not that easy, you need to get a PSU that takes the 12v (Forgot that laptops actually take 19v in) in and converts it to all the other voltages. The only one that comes to mind is the picopsu, but I know there was more and they could deliver more power. It's been years since I've looked at any of this.
  6. Oh, I was on mobile, and I didn't want to use my speaker to watch the vid, so I just tried what seemed obvious, which was Rufus and the image. Tomorrow I can try MATS. (I made the USB with the laptop, without any internet because I don't have drivers on it.)
  7. I wanna say I had some wack config that I decided to try P95 with, but it almost instantly got above 90C so I quickly shut it down. Other than that, I haven't tried much else. I'm sleepy, and I'm not sure when I'll feel like trying something else with it.
  8. Well, in the system, I'm using an old xPower 1080, but I've also tested it with a Rosewill Hive 750w and got the same thing.
  9. 4.6 at 1.190v is stable, 4.6 at 1.250v causes system to power off, then back on. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/669416006799720469/983123834100129863/VID_20220605_163000.mp4
  10. I don't think there is one for NotebookTalk, but there is an old Notebook Review server. If you're interested, I can try to find the invite.
  11. None of my computers are really impressive. My main PC is in a poor place for taking photos, and I'm too lazy to move it somewhere better. Everything else is kinda mid. Need more 'puter parts (Specifically GPUs) to make my older systems presentable. Edit 1: I'll take a pic of my X58 rig I guess, give me a bit. Edit 2:
  12. I delidded a 4790K and liquid metaled it, only to have it crash if I go over some sort of wattage limit. Not sure why, but I would assume it's just my board being junk. Haswell is kinda boring to me anyways. I haven't saved any benchmarks, and I'm too lazy to install Windows just to get a CB number.
  13. This is probably gonna be wimpy compared to your setups, but this is what I have. ISP: AT&T, 20Mbps down, 1Mbps up (America moment) Modem: AT&T thing, not sure what the model is. Router: Linksys WRT1900AC v2 (Running OpenWRT) Switch: None I might get 10G network cards and a 10G switch for a future NAS, but currently I have no reason to upgrade my networking, other than maybe getting a more power efficient router that runs my preferred router software, Tomato.
  14. I think the best drivers, at least for Windows 7/8 are 431.36 or 441.66. Newer drivers are only really useful for DXVK and whatever else.
  15. I use three monitors, Acer CB271HU, Viotek GNV27DB, and Acer G247HL. I like having so much screen space for stuff, I usually have YouTube playing on the G247HL, but I sometimes use it for other stuffs. On my Viotek GNV27DB, I can be browsing Discord, managing files, browsing the web, gaming, using a VM, etc. On my Acer CB271HU, I might be consuming proper content due to the better color accuracy of the display, or doing something that I would do on my main display if my main display already has stuff open.
  16. If I list all of my hardware that has died, this list would be too long, but here are some of the more expensive failures I've had. Lenovo Flex 3 1580 - Died due to failed BIOS update, appears to be bricked so hard that flashing the proper BIOS with an external flasher does nothing. MSI GS60-2QE - Still works, but one of the RAM slots doesn't work, I tried reflowing it, but I don't have the proper tools and I didn't get it hot enough I guess. Probably gonna sell this, eventually. 980m 8GB - Some part of it died, trying to figure out which.
  17. Should I go for the SYY-157? It's very cheap for how well it performs, I can get 15 grams for the price of the expensive 2-4 gram tubes of other well performing pastes.
  18. This is pretty cool, but I'm not sure if I like some of the ideas. Having an integrated keyboard is cool and all, but I think that space could be better used to replace those small noisy fans with some good sized 120mm fans and radiators, while also making the case a bit shorter. I also think it might be better to get one of those tiny power supplies that get power from a power brick instead of a server PSU.
  19. Seeing how laptops are getting more and more locked down and power restricted is making me think that maybe a SFF PC could be a better portable workstation than a laptop. Desktop replacements do have some advantages, like the battery functioning as a UPS, integrated display, smaller size, etc, etc. However I've recently been thinking that it might be better to have a thin and light 13-15 in laptop to take wherever, and have a SFF PC for long trips or when more power might be needed. SFF PCs are much easier to work on and replace stuffs than laptops, assuming you have a decent case. There is also more expandability, as decent boards can support 4 or more drives. It also uses desktop parts for everything, which are usually significantly cheaper than their laptop counterparts. This has led me to think that maybe I should just build a SFF gaming PC instead of repairing my 8770W or buying a newer laptop, but I still like the all in one nature of laptops, so I'm not sure.
  20. Kinda late in doing this, but whatever. I'm K4sum1, I used to go by R3n on the NotebookReview forums. I am a dummy that has an interest in laptops both big and small, as long as they can run anything older than Windows 10. I also like to curse, a lot, which could get me banned at some point, but whatever. I currently have 6 laptops, some working, some not working. From oldest to newest, I have the Toshiba L505D-S5983 (broken), Acer Aspire One, Thinkpad T430 (with 3630QM), HP 8770W (broken GPU), MSI GS60-2QE (kinda working), and Lenovo Flex 3 1580 (broken). I wish to, in the future, expand my collection with one or more of the following, X201 (1440x900), HP 6930p, Latitude Z, M4800, M6800, T480 (MX150), MSI Modern 14 (ix 10xxxU, MX350), and/or the Clevo P751DM. Other than laptops, I'm interested in desktops and most other types of computers, including phones.
