How about "if you never played it", is Edgerunners still worth watching ? I've watched the Arcane some time ago, and it was amazing. But never actually played League of Legends, so...

introduction What web browser are you using, and why?

There are some extensions that let you save current sessions. But then, I personally end up with a ton of saved sessions which I rarely look at again Not really a solution, more of a "hiding the pain of closing all tabs"- 158 replies

THIS. Businesses don't care. Or well, maybe they care, but most of "them" won't even find out there is an issue. How many "business users" will try to push these machines to their limits and/or try to resolve the problems? And we here don't represent even a speck of Dell's total sales. With all the problems 7x70 has, it's still an "improvement" over the last gen (albeit not an improvement we expected) and more importantly - it's a stable system with great warranty and support, which is what most businesses want in the end IMO. This and considering there's almost no competition - and Dell has very little incentive to make things better. Plus, as you mentioned , things are probably already past their design phase. Raptor Lake also seems like a "so-so" improvement over Alder Lake. GPU... real-life improvements might not be that big either - again all comes down to thermals and available power supply, which I'm very certain that both will remain same as this year. So next year only kinda looks promising on paper IMO. Definitely not something to look forward to eagerly and hence why I think there will be little sense to swap 7x70 for 7x80.
-
Hmm, probably not many, it's expensive as heck to switch to a new generation every year I'll probably try my luck with the 7780 though. Been eyeing 7770 since around this time last year, but decided that I don't want to wait and got a 7560 which was later returned. Didn't bother with a replacement and decided to wait for 7770 after all. When 7x70 series appeared, my sales rep gave me a quote and went on vacation; 3 months later I still haven't heard back At this point I'm not going to bother with 7770 - what a disappointment it is. I'm kind of skeptical that Dell will address the issues with the current gen in the next one (Not that there are any worthy alternatives in this laptop segment, which is why they will probably get away with it.) But what the heck, let the waiting game begin continue...

Something like Windows Intune maybe?

Heh, I also haven't been on nbr for awhile before it's shutdown, only in my case I went into the forums like a week or two before it was gone :D Welcome back to the fold!

Very nice overview @Easa! Can't say that I care too much about most of the "bad stuff" you mentioned for it to be a deal breaker, but the power limits... it's going to be disappointing if there's no possibility to go above 80W on the GPU. Subscribed to the tread and looking forward to seeing some real reviews and updates on this machine.

That's interesting to hear, I might give it a shot if I convince some of my friends to join along. The only thing I'm afraid of is it's probably going to take all of my free time again :D "Must eat brains play more dayz..."

Played it when it just got out initially (the Arma2 mod, not the standalone). It was lots of fun, probably one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've had. Never tried the standalone, IIRC it was too unstable when it got out, even worse than the mod. I've actually stumbled upon it a few months ago and thought to give it a try. But then I started reading reviews and people are still complaining about crashes and whatnot, so I just passed on it. Very surprised that they haven't gotten a stable working game after all these years... Cheaters is another issue of course. I wonder, do they still support hosting it on your own server, like you could with the mod? If so, that might be worth a try if you want PVE.
-
I guess you have your reasons to run a (Windows) Server. But if you only want file storage and don't plan to run anything else on the server, isn't it better to do some self-hosted thing like owncloud or nextcloud?
-
Totally agree. But I think there's a chance they just might get away with it. These are business-oriented workstations. How much of the target audience going to even run benchmarks or try to push this system to the limit to even find out there's something wrong with it? At best a lot of businesses will just blindly replace outright faulty units and won't even notice anything wrong with the rest.

Another Ryzen 9 build - another thread to subscribe to. Is it Christmas already?
-
Seeing how they just re-designed the thermals, I don't know, I kind of doubt they would make something new again next year... One can always hope, I know I do :) But as faithful as I always was to Dell, I'm kind of loosing my faith and unwillingly exploring other options lately. Dunno if I'll wait for the 7x80 models (kind of a "forever waiting for the next thing around the corner" game), but nevertheless I think that the success/failure of the next year's models will decide it for me if I'm going to stick with them or not in the foreseeable future.

I think with this GPU it definitely counts as lifting weights

Welcome to the forums @yayo685 !

Damn this is very impressive for a one-person-operation... I wish there was multiplayer, I like survival games quite a lot, but "surviving with friends" takes it to the next level. I'll still check it out, thanks for the tip @cucubits!

Yeah, and pretty much everyone else as well as far as I can see. Hopefully you can resolve your issues with a simple heatsink replacement as well. Keep us updated. Yes, if @Aaron44126 can also confirm that a heatsink replacement is enough to solve throttling issues, then this might still turn out to be a simple fix for most who are facing the same problems. Still, this isn't something that Dell should just let slide and leave up to users to discover and fix...
-
Don't wait for a "recall", you have warranty, open a support case and let them fix it. --- @Dell-Mano_G, can you shed some light on these performance issues people are facing? Is there any investigation ongoing on the Dell's side to figure out the problem and fix it? Unless I've missed something, I think there hasn't been a single report so far that didn't mention these performance issues out of the box... Even if it's just re-paste/-pad, how hard is it for Dell to do this properly so that users don't need to do this kind of thing just after receiving the machine?...
-
Looking at how almost everyone got the same poor results initially, can we assume that they released a bunch of defective heatsinks? And is replacing a heatsink what should be done first if a new unit performs poorly? I wonder if anyone else tried to get a replacement and seen improvements with rest being stock. While some users reported that re-paste and changing thermal pads helps, I don't see why a top-of-the-line workstation would need re-padding or re-pasting out of the box. This is just nonsense and completely unacceptable...
-
Yeah, the amount of thought that went into this is noticeable :) As @ryan said, it's funny to be excited, but I am Keep us updated and hopefully you'll get all the parts without much delays, so you can enjoy it thoroughly before your kid comes.

I think if I had the means for a desktop build right now, I'd be doing a lot of copy-pasta from this thread :) I've actually been eyeing the new Ryzens , and they look impressive. Ever since my first PC, all my desktops and laptops had Intel CPUs, but for a desktop right now, I would go with AMD for sure.
