I may be wrong, but word on the street says they are migrating their current servers for the forums and reworking the forums. Take this with a grain of salt though... -

@Mr. FoxThat ChipQuik solder paste is really useful lol. My favorite belt broke about a week ago and I haven't been able to use it. (It's one of those weird reversible ones, and the little screw that went into the belt buckle stripped and broke off.) I thought that maybe putting a bunch of the solder paste onto the screw and into the screw hole might create a strong enough bond to keep the frame and buckle together, so I tried, and it worked. The belt is significantly stronger now, I've had a good few tugs onto it and it hasn't broken yet. The only downside is that the belt is no longer reversible, but I don't really care about that... ChipQuik for the win though! On a side note to keep this post semi on-topic, I've acquired a small oven that I can fit the heatsink from the P870DM into. I plan on using this and some wood clamps to solder the heatpipes to the heatsink once I can find some gasket remover to remove the paint from the heatpipes. -

I hope this doesn't happen, but I know it will, and it's just ridiculous. Who in their right mind would purchase a giant laptop to use as a "DTR" but runs hotter than a SFF desktop while also not being as serviceable as one either. I've heard the argument of people saying, "but these new chips are so fast, and are built well, you don't need to upgrade them or swap them out in their lifetime." The problem is that these HX chips that are basically slightly cut down desktop chips running on a BGA package and not being cooled well. I'd be willing to bet money that these things will fail in a few years unless they are throttled to all hell, but throttling them defeats the purpose... And don't' even get me started on the neutered mobile GPUs. Just basically take the name of the GPU of any new laptop, and view it as the desktop variant, but down a SKU. Long gone are the days of Pascal where the mobile GPUs were toe to toe with their desktop counterparts. I dunno, it just doesn't make sense to have such a giant laptop with soldered components. These proposed 18" laptops are in a weird gray area, too big to be feasible mobile machines, but too small to be a good desktop. (Unless they have serviceable components and adequate cooling, which I doubt they will have) At that point, if you want something that big, just build a SFF desktop. -

I don't use Paypal all too much and I haven't had one of these issues. My only suggestion would be to get in contact with them if you haven't already and discuss the pay period with them. -

Motherboard came back and it (thankfully) works: The guy I sold it to has a degree in Electrical Engineering, and couldn't understand that you need an MSI made Pascal GPU for the motherboard to POST... I am starting to see why everyone decided to axe MXM... (just kidding, lol) -

I thought the Hassy Alienware 18's only used LVDS in optimus. Am I wrong?

Ahhh, that really blows, your RSX right? Those things are nice cars, sorry to hear about that. It seems you're doing alright, which is always good to hear. My buddy totaled his WRX STI a while ago from a buck who ran right in front of him. Spent all day yesterday at the wreck lot salvaging as much as possible with him. I hope you are given the opportunity to do the same.

Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 as replacement for Dell XPS 15 9550?
Tenoroon replied to serpro69's topic in What Laptop Should I Buy?
I have a first gen G14 with a 4800hs and 1650 that I use at school or when I'm out doing things. It's pretty nice. The keyboard is pretty good, and screen size is alright for doing stuff on the go. The trackpad is also really nice, but I might be a bit bias about the trackpad since I haven't really used a "real" laptop. Though, I will say, the fans can get a bit loud when under a substantial load and that one RAM slot is really annoying IMO. Otherwise, there aren't many problems besides these first generation ones having a tendency to have motherboard faults that can kill everything, but those problems have since been fixed, so you shouldn't have to worry. Also, there is a bit of bloat on them from the factory, but a lot of that stuff can be removed when setting everything up. As for your concern on the support, I've never really needed to deal with ASUS's support, so I can't really help you, but I'd assume it would be a lot better than Razers lol. The G14 should be pretty good; I would still look elsewhere for more info about it if you are really considering though since I only really use this thing at school and mine is of an older model. -

@ssj92I've gotten as far as you have on your thread over at Winraid. I think you need to use that IRF Extractor after you extract the 4G Decode part from the BIOS. I'll keep cracking at it, but I'm in the same bucket as you, waiting on Kuri0 to respond. -

The buyer that purchased the GT72VR motherboard from me has issued a return... I sold it on October 18th... Today is November 17th... He waited to the LAST POSSIBLE DAY to issue a "defective product" and uploaded no evidence. I doubt I will win because I know how Ebay is, but this really pisses me off. Luckily, I took pictures of it working right before I boxed it up, I should have maybe timestamped them, but while the setup is really janky, it proves the motherboard can POST, which the buyer argued it refused to POST. I'm really just done with Ebay. I've seen too many of you guys here get screwed, and it just hurts to see. I just wish something can be done about this. -

Yeah, I completely forgot about UEFI Tool. I've heard it is useful, but I could never wrap my head around it when I was trying to use it for the microcode bug for Haswell MQ processors. I'm no BIOS modding guru, but I might be able to utilize UEFI Tool to incorporate some stuff. I can take a look at it tomorrow. Win-Raid has useful information, but some of the people aren't very helpful. I've learned a lot from there, but I've never gained anything from asking a question which irks me quite a bit. I looked at the Dell and Stock vBIOSes that you used in a hex editor, and the hex editor said nothing was similar at all. I'm sure there are similar groups of hex, but just not in the same consecutive order between the vBIOSes. Though, I did notice the Stock vBIOS had a lot of dead space at the end of it compared to the Dell vBIOS. But yeah, I'll take a look at everything tomorrow when I have a bit of time to sit down and just focus on everything. To fully understand things, I have to dig to the very root of the task I'm trying to do (I tend to ask "why?" until I can't ask "why?" anymore), which is extremely time consuming, but once I can get to that "root," everything else feels like it comes naturally, and I can easily wrap my head around what I'm trying to do. My point being that you might beat me to figuring everything out. -
A4500 MXM - Need help getting this working!
Tenoroon replied to ssj92's topic in Alienware 18 and M18x
I'm actively trying to work things out, but most of BIOS reading stuff won't read the vBIOSes. I'm going to try to see if I can do anything in HxD, but I am starting to exaust options. Worse case scenario, you can find someone who has tools to modify and create vBIOSes, but it won't be cheap, and you will only be given a new vBIOS file, not the software to do it. The only problem is that it would cost a lot of money, and finding someone who either knows someone else, or who can do it will be tough. I know there's such tools out there, but they aren't spread all too well and are obtained by sketchy means. They aren't really available to find and use as if everyone knew about such tools, then Nvidia and other companies would take action against the software and the people. -

Also @ssj92I forgot to mention, but with the stock vBIOS, could you put the card in the slave slot and a working GPU in the master slot and see if windows or the BIOS recognizes something in the slave slot? -

Tenoroon replied to ssj92's topic in Alienware 18 and M18x
@ssj92 While the Dell vBIOS is able to post, some parts of the card (mostly sensors, but some other things) can't be read at all, which is why the card works at a very basic level and gives a code 43 (code 43 usually meaning important information from the GPU can't be read or are being read wrong.) This is probably because the Dell vBIOS is most likely too different from the stock vBIOS, and the card which is intended to read off of the stock vBIOS doesn't bode well with the "foreign" Dell vBIOS. The good news is you know that the card works, which is great, but you may need to modify the stock vBIOS with some values from the Dell vBIOS in order to get everything smooth sailing. I'll take a look at the two vBIOSes and see if the software I have can read them well. Contrary to what Reciever thinks, I'm actually not to good at this stuff lol, especially vBIOSes, but I'm trying to get there. I'll see what I can do, and I may be able to point you in the right direction if it comes down to you needing to significantly change the stock vBIOS in order to get the A4500 to work. Just to be safe, I wouldn't toy around with the card too much with the Dell vBIOS as you are already in deep waters, and a wrong move could permanently damage or break the card. I would also advise you to search for an HP A4500 vBIOS in the meantime just to see if it works or not. It would be unwise to not test it. Also, have you tried disconnecting the AW18 display and only plugging in an external monitor with the stock vBIOS? My second "Dell" 1070 would only post if there was an external monitor connected and if the internal display was not connected. I know it sounds dumb, but computers are weird. -

Rust is pretty fun with friends. Maybe I could assist you sometime? -
If only I get it shipped... Just finished up setting up a small home server and this would be a nice upgrade over the current 500gb SSHD I'm using right now. Oh well.

It's a desktop, an old industrial H61 board that uses SODIMM RAM, and the BIOS is quite locked down... I'm mostly interested in being able to view wattage, so I can gauge how much the wattage goes down when I UV.

Hello everyone! I recently set up a small server at home for file storage and host a Minecraft server for some friends. I decided to use Ubuntu Server and it's been going great, but I'm a bit of a noob and don't know of any tools/software for undervolting and viewing system utilization and I don't know where to start. I ask this because I am running an i3 3240, and had planned on undervolting it as I don't need it to be ran too fast and don't need it consuming 40-50 watts as the server will rarely be turned off. So, does anyone with a bit more experience know of any tools I can use? And because I'm using Ubuntu Server, there is only a command line, so I don't think I can use anything that utilizes a GUI. Thanks!

I wish they could build one in Tennessee lol. While Nashville is kind of an average city, more and more companies have been moving here due to reasonable taxes and no personal state income tax, but I can also see many reasons why Microcenter wouldn't want to prioritize coming here. The closest one is in Georgia, so while people in East TN wouldn't have too much of a problem if they wanted to buy a bunch of stuff there, the rest of us in the middle or west would not like to drive 7-8 total hours just to buy computer parts. Though, there are a lot of other people, especially in the Midwest that would have to drive like double that to get to the nearest MC, so I guess I can't really complain. -

One of the first DnB mixes I ever listened to. It still sounds great after 2 years of listening to it, and it never seems to get old. Great for walks, hanging out with friends, or focusing on things; it just works.
