Nice ~12c drop from stock to pads + block! How does the EVGA test compare to mining which really gets memory nice and toasty?

It is not as stressful on memory as mining but I don't have any mining software installed anymore to test with. The ultimate test will be how much colder chilled water can make it. I'll find that out a little bit later today.

  2. Comparison of stock EVGA 3090 K|NGP|N backplate thermal pads vs. Fujipoly full PCB thermal pad (from OptimusPC) vs. Fujipoly full PCB pad plus MP5WORKS block. The test used was EVGA OC Scanner's Furmark Memory Burner test. The first two tests were run for 5 minutes each. After installing the MP5WORKS block I allowed it to run for 10 minutes.

We all have our vices! haha

It's a way of spending time with my wife and doing something we both enjoy together rather than staying at the keyboard and ignoring her. It is generally about 2 hours a day, sometimes less but seldom more. Updated list.

When you get some downtime be sure to add Punisher (Netflix) to that list.

First episode is a bit of a slow burner, but I enjoyed the 2 seasons multiple times now.

That was definitely a good one. Totally forgot about it thanks for reminding me. For somebody that doesn't watch a lot of TV I've seen a lot of stuff LOL. Maybe I should qualify that by saying that it's less than most people.

Mr Fox, what can I benchmark any ideas? I want to contribute to this thread but it's for desktop and my laptop is mid-tier. well the i7 11800h is pretty nice and the 3200mhz memory isn't shabby. but I thought about benchmarking my SSD. sigh wish I had the samsung 980 like everyone else

here it is underwhelming gen 4 performance. fast for gen 3 mind you

Yes, totally agree with Brother @Rage Set (quoted below). Unless you are one of the "Chosen Ones" with sponsors that give them cherry-picked hardware to play with, nobody makes money or gets famous doing this. It is all for fun and fellowship. We learn stuff from one another and find things in common. So, anything you want to bench and share with us.

To name just a few, randomly and from the top of my head, some of the more entertaining benchmarks are:

    * Some of these are old and hard to find. I downloaded them when they were still  available from the originating author web pages, but you can skip surfing shady web sites packing malware and grab them from my Google Drive >> LINK <<

That whole run of bad luck you had was crushing to read @Mr. Fox seriously..... 😪

Thank you. I know you and a number of others were affected by it and it is nice to be part of a group of people that care about each other even though we have never met one another face-to-face. It means a lot to me, brother.

I got a notification for the Z690 Dark, literally a day later after getting into the queue. I am not sure if I'm lucky or EVGA overestimated the desire for this board. What to do? I have the Z690 Extreme and the Strix-A...and one CPU for them both. I don't need another Z690 board...but it is very tempting. I could sell the Extreme but then I lose that sexy 10G LAN (yes, it is worth it).

That is a really tough call. All good boards, but given all of them are insanely expensive (save for maybe the Strix) I would probably go with the Dark mobo.

Bro, you are contributing. No need for verification. All of us were "DTR" overclockers (some still are) before we went back to desktop.  https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/26785502/fs/26785331# My questionable laptop scores, don't judge me, lol.

Keep learning and reaching, you are getting there.

    Amen to that.

Brother @johnksss disappeared on us again. Things must have gotten really busy at work, but that is a good problem to have.

and @Mr. Fox iv'e been following your benchmarks and I cant believe your temperatures and performance 5.3ghz? is this real. you have to be the luckiest guy on the planet with that CPU

Thank you. It is an excellent silicon sample. Not as good as the one I had purchased from Brother @Talonthat an unfortunate accident destroyed (still heartbroken over that). I am going to see if chilled water will let me break the 5.7GHz barrier this weekend.

The final insult? The new reporting threshholds ($20k now reduced to $600) to the IRS making it a PITA to just be a private seller offloading used items you no longer need so now you have to be even more meticulous with record keeping and filing your taxes yearly.

Double-taxation is a growing issue that reflects the high degree of immorality that exists in government; especially so when dimwitted progressive socialism gets its hooks in a country's butt. Sales tax was already paid. Charging it a second time is inappropriate. Income tax was paid. Selling stuff one purchased with after-tax income doesn't produce income. It produces loss. Time to clean house in city, state and Federal governments... long overdue for taking out the trash. Government needs to stick with law enforcement, national security, and border security and butt the hell out of everything else in our lives.

EVGA Z690 Dark queue is open "only" $829.99.....

    https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=121-AL-E699-KR

As much as I love EVGA and their products, I just can't see it being worth that much. Although, my second choice would be an Apex and it's nearly as much. For $100 extra, I would have to think about it. Paying $100 more for something I would prefer rather than settling for something less bears some level of consideration, but prices of anything worth considering is just off-the-rails extremely stupid overpriced right now. Everything is a very poor value.

  9. So, I got another nice 10900K sample today. My daily driver was 53x core, 50x cache with 1.375V. I set this in the socket and dropped the voltage from 1.375V to 1.300V, pressed F10 and booted to desktop. No other changes, just made that one change.

Passed CBR20 with fliying colors, so I will have fun seeing if I just guessed perfectly on the first try, or I can go  lower. This is no chilled water. KPX paste. First run with no other tweaking or testing. My office is 77.8°F.

Sold and shipped the Z590 Dark today.

We sent a payout of $292.13 on Feb 17, 2022 to your bank account

So, basically  I lost $70 on the sale if I don't count the $32 I paid for the buyer to have "free" shipping. Bastards. (Sale price was $400.)

Arcane CPU tweaks just made buying a laptop harder. Here’s the info you need: pcworld.com

Yup. Nothing is too crappy for the turdbook kiddos. As long as it has RGB and an anorexic form factor it doesn't need to be worth a damn otherwise.

P-Cores? E-cores? GPU cores? We break it all down

    A big.LITTLE story
Using cores with different architectures in a single chip is an idea borrowed from smartphone chip design.

In their early years, chips designed for phones had an architecture with many cores of the same type, just like PC processors. However, chip architects knew they could increase efficiency if they could instead pair different architectures with varying design. Damn ugly

LG V30, but the glass screen and back cover are broken so I might be replacing it soon.

That is a great phone. My wife and I got pair of the V30 ThinQ in a BOGO deal from T-Mobile when they were new releases and just recently replaced them. Mine still looks like new and it served me well for a long time.

Google Pixel 6 pro. I like the Google software experience and don't tend to use my phone much except taking pictures/ some web browsing and a couple of apps. Don't do any phone games or anything.

Same. No interest in playing games on one. That seems really lame to me. I use my phones primarily as a phone, text messaging and to spontaneously capture photos. I like OnePlus and Google Pixel phones because they are excellent quality and easier to root. There is a growing number of phones that are highly root-resitant and I really hate that. Going forward, I do not plan to purchase any phones that make rooting difficult or impossible. My OnePlus 8T was very easy to root.

As per these posts, the current setting is to "lazy load" the images (as you scroll to them they load). This setting is to save on bandwidth for mobile users, low bandwidth users, and the server. Since bandwidth isn't much of an issue for the server (we haven't even hit 0.01% of our cap) I'll toggle this setting off for the moment to see how it performs for everyone.

    @Mr. Fox@Rage Set@Reciever

Awesome, thanks. I will reply if I notice an improvement or an issue.

  14. So, I put one of the OptimusPC full cover thermal pads on the 3090 KPE. It produced a modest improvement in temperatures. The backplate doesn't gets as crazy hot directly over the core and memory components and the entire backplate gets warmer than it used to. (Seems completely logical, as the heat is being more evenly distributed across the backplate than before.) It is a little better overall. But, it wasn't the major improvement I was hoping for. I used EVGA OC Scanner's Furmark Memory Burner tool for 5 minutes before and after, so that is also a pretty brutal test.

We will see how it does with the backplate water block once it gets here. This should be a good foundation for the backplate water block to work more effectively.
