the prices do seem high. Im personally not shelling out 3.5k just to play gta v at 8k/ limited amount of games worth playing that need 4090 power, but I guess if your into 4k high refresh rate its justified. if you own or want a 4090 what are you aiming for? 1440p? 4k?

I guess if your future proofing.

At some point I will need to replace what I have, I am concerned this synthetic trend will still be in place when that time approaches.

benching... only. I don't need one for anything else other than beating my best 3090 scores. For gaming, I don't even need the 3090. I am content with the gaming performance of the 3060 Ti at this time.

yeah I bought a 3060 it handles everything at 1080p and alot of games at 4k and 1440p. but im just benching these days. that 3060ti should be good for gaming for quite some time if your just doing 1440p/1080p

it handles the next big engine (45fps) and thats about it. you really dont need more than 45fps but 60-120 is nice

I played several hours of Crysis 3 Remastered last night on my laptop and the Quadro P5000 handled it with ease, even with all of the eye candy enabled.

This is just lovely. None of the last two gen Dark Kingpin motherboards work with the trashboat (Zotac 4090). How is this even possible? 4090 was out in October last year and now we are into 2nd week of Feb 2023. almost 4 months. And Dark Kingpin Z690 have been here over a year.

Wait for integrated graphics to improve to the point where you no longer need a dedicated GPU. That may work if you never move to higher resolutions than 1080p.

Aww who am I kidding? We're enthusiasts! Integrated graphics will never be enough since our performance requirements keep growing with the increases in hardware processing power.🤣

@tps3443 a couple of Z690 Unify-X motherboards popped up on B&H and Amazon open box for $350 each. I went with Amazon since B&H only had a 90 day warranty and couldn't differentiate between normal and grey market warranty status and easier return mechanisms in case there are problems with it. Should be here Friday.

Asus 4090 actually in stock at Newegg. OC edition. Only 90 have it in cart....nice to see.

EDIT: 3hrs later and STILL in stock. I am sure it will eventually sell out, but 4090s are officially routinely in stock daily now at NE. Just depends on the models.

That’s awesome. I’m happy with mine. Nothing broken, and it has been super reliable with direct die.

The only thing I hate about MSI is their on board raid is the worst ever. It works and you can run even 4-5 M.2’s all in a raid-0 with crazy speeds.

But, I tested this and set up a raid-0 with (3) M.2’s, I saved my bios, then I immediately reset the bios on purpose, I then re-loaded that saved bios profile. And the raid-0 was gone forever. Even after reconfiguring it in the bios the exact same way. it’s really the stupidest thing ever lol. EVGA does not have this issue, or even Asus. Apparently it’s a common issue for MSI and they won’t fix it. So, if you ever create an on-board raid “Never reset your bios” or your Windows is gone 😂

It’s not a huge deal, I just wanted to make use of the (5) M.2 slots that the Unify-X has on board, and the pile of M.2 SSD’s I have. My main OS drive is a single 2TB.

It’s kinda crazy how buying a GPU is like a major decision nowadays haha. I remember back in the day, I would spend like $150-$400 and overthink it like crazy, read every review online, and I’d still have some of the fastest performance available.

My last GPU purchase was $2,200 dollars. And this was a 3090 Kingpin Hydro Copper. I felt like I was getting a good deal at the time, and I still do. And I really love it.  It is still so freaking fast today, and GPU’s are so expensive right now, that I’m not hasty in the slightest amount about jumping on another one for $1,500-$2,000+

That's some seriously flawed logic. Just because a gpu happens to be the best makes it ok to be bent over? 2k just to have bragging rights on the bot? Oh, wait. ..can't have that either, haha. We wonder why prices for gpu's are so high? It's exactly from that type of thinking. Smh

I won't pay for an AMD card that's $600 over priced either, so your argument fails on that as well.

My logic... I don't like MSI and below 4090 SKUs is in no man's land (disgusting price vs value). I haven't many options left outside continue play with my old parts. Thats the truth. I have tried 4090 Liquid X and returned it. And I won't re-buy that card evn its cheaper. So my options is quite limited. And I normally don't spend much money on graphics cards. Mostly $10-100 USD. So not so sure the reason for the stupid high prices is due me 🙂

Exact same way I feel about people who buy expensive cars, motorbikes, homes or take crazy luxury level vacations. I feel the same way about people who spend thousands a year on smoking or drinking. I also feel the same way about those who spend a crapton of money on golf clubs, designer clothes or jewelry. What an absolute waste and just plain silly. But that is their vice. 🙂

I look upon those who waste all that money on any of thee above the same way you look upon expensively priced GPUs.

Fancy computer parts are no different. The common / frugal man can easily get by with sub $300 priced parts. The common / frugal man can also get by with an efficient compact car, a 1 bedroom flat (expand this as needed per child), no need for designer clothes, nice jewelry, motorbikes, fancy meals, luxury travel or more.....

You drew your personal line in the sand and said, "this is what I'm willing to spend and what *I* think a GPU should cost" like me with motherboards. I just can't stomach paying more than $400 for a motherboard. I wish everybody would stop buying motherboards for >$400 because the pricing is getting out of hand but that's my own line in the sand. This hardline applies whether it is $401 or $5000 and yet I still get excited and happy to see other techies get this stuff and post results.

The logic is simple:

You want a 4090

The only viable models that meet your criteria were MSI Suprim and Asus Strix

Your MSI was a poor sample so you returned it

Now your choice is to try another MSI or wait for an Asus

You've opted to wait to try an Asus

The next question is, what if the Asus is a bad or worse sample? I'm very happy with my Suprim. looking at other people's results over the last several weeks, I realize it has abnormally high out of box boost clocks (2835) which allows it to overclock and game  at 3120mhz with fantastic temps and no coil whine with fans on auto no less. This was solidified by the second one I picked up from Best buy (I dub thee: ClockFails Von Coilwhine) that in hingsight for clocks (having looked around at countless others running games and benchmarks) wasn't *bad* just that my first one from Newegg was really good. Memory clocks are right where they should be and above average overall at +1500 stable ~+1600 for benching compared to the trash heap that second card topping out at +700. You may have tried another and been very happy with it but that initial sour taste means Asus is up next.

As for expensive GPUs, everyone has their vices. I have friends that spend 10-15k a year if not more on golf trips. Some spend 5-10k easily on fine dining. Others even more than that collecting top shelf liquors and cigars. Some continue to lease expensive, high end cars. Others pour 10s of thousands into their own car collections and motorbikes. Even some who pour 10-20k a year traveling for luxury.......not my cup of tea but I'm not the one serving or sipping it.

Memory clocks are right where they should be and above average overall at +1500 stable ~+1600 for benching compared to the trash heap that second card topping out at +700. You may have tried another and been very happy with it but that initial sour taste means Asus is up next.

Hopefully mine will be at least that good. If not, it's going back to Amazon for a refund. Will know later today. It has been sitting at UPS since Tuesday on delivery hold since I was out of town until last night. Maxing out at +700 is unacceptable. Premium price demands a premium product, and that is garbage.

you haven't yet repaste or replaced pads right?
if you apply LM TIM you can gain even more then just repadding and repasting,

and there lots more you can do to windows to run even faster 😉

getting 54fps average in the benchmark for crysis remastered( maxed out )....pretty close to where I wanna be, just played a stint. I installed newest drivers, score went down a bit but now I can play cyberpunk or benchmark it if I please. better compatability also It looks like I have a power slider now, I have it maxed but it doesn't seem to do anything, scores didn't go up or down..

LM should help gpu and cpu but it looks like even with lower temps their is little to be gained as my temps on a cold boot are around 50-60c and the core doesnt go much higher than 1800mhz....must be the vbios

also I just noticed my gaming performance seems to be up 10 percent with all the tweaks...heres crysis maxed and before I think with my 9100 gpu score I was getting 53fps in this spot

this is a video of when I was getting top performance but as you can see from the picture im getting better in game performance

Have never had luck with MSI. And I can go back years in my history and the same apply. The Liquid X wasn't the worst sample for the cores. But 1470 on mem was on the lower side. And yep, we have the silicon lottery. And I'm sure MSI play that lottery very well for the worse for their customers.

See it this way.... Shops is flooded with their best binned cards here home... If they MSI can throw out this much samples for sales they either have a flood of good binned chips or they just throw out whatever chips they have. I can't see why ASUS couldn't do the same... Flood the sales page with same amount best binned cards. I expect MSI have changed target... Went with an AIO over better binned chips for their flagship cards. Yep, MSI also offer Suprim with air cooler, that's an option... But burnt children avoid the flame/Burnt Child Dreads the Fire.

Then you have their nice workmanship make OC tools for their new and shiny flagship. They didn't do anything correct. This just show whom they cater to.

See also this... The 4090 forum is above 500 pages. And probably not difficult to see why I shouldn't jump on a new MSI

I normally don't repeat bad decisions so I think I have taken the correct choice. For me 🙂

Garbage, trash, rubbish, or refuse is waste material that is discarded by humans, usually due to a perceived lack of utility. The term generally does not encompass bodily waste products, purely liquid or gaseous wastes, or toxic waste products. Garbage is commonly sorted and classified into kinds of material suitable for specific kinds of disposal.[1]

I will never buy MSI again, my laptop had fan issues. basically a flawed design and unfixable and msi offered no compensation. was a gross feeling

An interesting story and a question for you all.

I had someone message me on FB Marketplace about a GPU I have for sale. I noticed the profile was completely sparse. Interesting. The person haggled per normal but we agreed on a price. He asked about meeting in a city between him and I (he supposedly lives in Mass.). I told him I normally deal in the surrounding cities because I only meet near Police stations and I notify the police dept of the city I am heading to ahead of time to let them know I am legally armed and I will be in their city (this protects me in several ways in this very leftist state). His messaging tone changed.

I told him I could meet him in a different city (ten minutes away from the city he suggested). He quickly changed his mind. He told me it was too far and he's now going to be pressed for time after work. Strange.

I do tell all of my potential in-person buyers that I am armed. I rather they know ahead of time before seeing me in person with my holstered weapon. Should I stop doing this? Telling buyers that I am armed? If you were going to meet with someone to buy something from them and they openly told you they were legally armed, would that cause you to cancel the transaction?
