I've started playing 5D Chess (with Multiverse Time Travel), which had been on my Steam backlog for a while.

I've played 4 games against its AI, won them all (three at Trainer level, one at Regular), half of them I won unintentionally, most recently by putting the AI's king in check both in the present and in the past at the same time.  One game got pretty crazy though, both me and the AI kept moving pieces back through time, occasionally to a different universe, and at one point I considered moving my queen both to a different universe and to the future at the same time.

I eventually realized the AI was time traveling so much was that because my queen had a checkmate threat in a combination of the primary present as well a different dimension, and the AI's only way to prevent that was to go back to the past and find a way to capture my queen.  Or at least that's what I think it was doing, I'm only about 63.2% certain on that.

image.thumb.png.628f2493a57fa7911d14e12b749ebb89.png

Each of the rows of boards is a different universe, the branching structure shows where the alternative universes split from, dark purple arrows across boards show traveling into the past (which creates a parallel universe; you can also travel to the past and a different universe at the same time), and the lighter purple arrows show traveling between different universes (while not also time traveling).  Each column is a point in time.

It's an interesting game.  I've never played chess competitively, but tend to do well against other people who don't play chess competitively (and get destroyed by those who do), and I feel like I'm starting to understand the rules pretty well.  Sure it's a little weird to see three knights on a board or a bishop whose "diagonal" move is across a row and time instead of a row and a column, but once you realize that's a possibility it opens up a whole new world of possibilities.  Or is that a whole set of universes of possibilities?

The nice thing about regular chess is that there are only about a dozen rules.  How pawns, bishops, knights, rooks, queens, and kings move, count the pawns twice as there's a special case, that's 7.  How checkmate works.  Castling.  Promotions.  That's 10.  Maybe check separately from checkmate, and stalemate?  That's 12.

5D Chess adds a few more wrinkles in the space-time continuum, but I look at it as similar to picking up a city builder or strategy game - there's a bunch of interacting layers and sometimes they can influence each other in subtle ways, but it's learning something new and hopefully having fun with it.  Although usually I can't travel back in time in city builders, other than save-reloading, that is a rather unique aspect.  Some adventure or RPG games allow time travel though.

I've also started up Constructor Plus.  Still undecided on it.  Though I followed its advice to take a break and have a cuppa (tea) after the second mission, and that was a good life choice.

I think it's time for me to revisit Dying Light 2. There was a recent pretty significant patch which addressed some of my main concerns - nights not being scary enough.

Also, I read somewhere that we can have a mod to change Lawan's character so I'd try that too...

This the first time for you playing it?

I felt exactly the same way. You get drawn in and it really feels like you're there. I was playing with everything I could in the game. Aiming and shooting her handgun felt really good, I think I used that almost exclusively throughout the game. Also, I kept the iron sights, purposely did not upgrade to that holo dot thing. Felt great.

I hated the dark sections and the headcrab jumps though...

It's just fluid platforming with some crazy weapons. It's relatively simple in gameplay but i just find it really satisfying this is also one of the better entries in the series too.

Currently playing Master Detective Archives: Rain Code. As a Danganronpa super fan who has more than 1000 hours invested in the four mainline games across several platforms, I was pretty excited for this one. However, having just completed chapter 2, I have to say it's not really grabbed me the way its spiritual ancestors have. It's hard to get invested in the characters because most of the ones ones you spend a good amount of time with are annoying as hell. In Danganronpa, Monokuma and the mastermind controlling him are, in my humble, among the most compelling villains in video game history. Rain Code's primary antagonist is a corporation, and you're introduced to new representatives of it in seemingly every chapter, making it hard to focus. The revelation about what you could be up against that comes after completing chapter 2 has me worried as well because it sounds incredibly stupid. I of course will see it through to the end, but I'm very wary at this point.

Doing another round of Valheim. Dropped it last year, after completing all (5) biomes that were available at the time. They've added a new one now (well, quite awhile now) and a bunch of other stuff, so looks quite interesting.

The development is still kind of slow, so probably another couple years until it's finished... :/

Good afternoon, I decided and I will unsubscribe here.
I can’t understand if I’m old or if I’m drawn to retro gaming. At the moment I play Lineage2 x1 c3.
There were thoughts of throwing two 5tb hard drives into cool 771 on one to collect a collection of retro hits for PC, on the other hard drive to install Batocera OS and score with hits for consoles :)

Lately it's been very hard for me to actually stick to a game... I started quite a few which I like but for some reason I just stop playing.

One exception, turns out Dead Island 2 is a lot of fun. It's very different from Dying Light but I'm having a blast with it. Cherry on top, I had been to Venice Beach in LA a couple months ago IRL and just got there in the game. I love it when game levels are developed to look like the actual places they modeled. Exploring this particular level is sooo much fun.

The crazy weapon combos are also a lot of fun. I'm almost tempted to say Dead Island 2 does weapons better than Dying Light 2.
