i guess thats the downside of getting older (among others), at some point were getting a bit "stuck" in out tastes and ways and cannot quite keep up with the ever changing landscape and mainstream tastes / designs, etc. im not quite there yet myself, but i can already feel it creeping up on me. i.e. social media, mobile gaming, subscription services, wearables, IoT / smart home devices, theyre all trends that become more and more popular but i just look at them, shrug and couldnt care less or spend a dime on any of them. which is weird, considering im a total tech nerd and love any new tech that comes out. but lots of time i just scratch my head and ask myself: who tf needs this? u cant just look into your fridge and figure out yourself what kinda groceries u need? or u REALLY need to have your living room lights voice controlled and in RGB? seriously? and yeah, not to mention all the added security risks ure basically adding to your own home and its security.... in any case, sorry for the thread derail folks! ill be curious to see what crysis 4 brings to the table 🙂 im hoping for NO multiplayer-only, NO micro transactions, NO coop-block, NO online online, lets see if thats too much to ask for 😛

...sounds awesome, only that overclocking the 4090 wont net much additional performance. review roundup indicates like 5% performance added for +30-35% more power 😅 on the other hand, Roman showed 5% performance loss at 40%(!!!) less power. completely insane. granted, this will vary depending on the game/application used, but it doesnt promise any crazy additional increases. you very likely chose the perfect gpu gen to bide ur time and take in the reviews first, no matter where i look or read, the message is always the same: about 5x volume at launch available vs. the 30 series, vendors like MC have literal truck loads of 4090s in stock and expectations are that initial stock will last around a week or so. i can imagine that some skus might be sold out more quickly than that due to focused demand, i.e. the FE or the Strix (although why anyone would spend 500 bucks more on basically the same cooling and power limits is beyond me...) uve hit the nail on the head with this one, 100% agreed. from what the rumour mill is saying so far, Intel went absolute bonkers, balls to the wall, absolute limit in their manufacturing process with regards to the upcoming 36 core HEDT part. that monolithic silicon is literally the absolute max area size they can fit in their machines to be exposed and etched. even if they were willing to add cost, wattage and area size, it would literally NOT be possible from a technical standpoint to add any more cache or cores to that monster. this basically means Intel has reached the end of the line and i dont think their troubles will get any better if they stick to monolithic designs. AMD can just increase their package and throw in even more chiplets, their only bottleneck being the finetuning of their IF, which they already have down pat pretty much. Nvidia will soon be in a similar position, the reason why theyre trying to go so overboard with power and even more focus on RT and DLSS 3.0 means that RDNA3 will likely match or even beat the 4090 in rasterization performance. interesting enough, new rumours also suggest that AMD is currently VERY confident that their SECOND tier part will match the 4090 and their top tier one will beat it in raster, whereas RT theyll catch up but not be able to quite match the 40 series. i can only repeat myself, AMD, love them or hate them, doesnt matter, theyre kicking Intel's & Nvidia's ASS, thus gearing up competition for everyone 🙂 -
i wonder what genius came up with that idea to restrict cloud gaming to gamepads only 🤦♂️ here some new pics, i spent a several hours just on cable connections and management, going back and forth between case and motherboard manuals 😄 here the sight that greeted me at first when opening up the back panel. already a ton of cables due to the multifold front I/O connectors. here again after PSU install and connecting all required cables to the mobo. im quite happy about this cable cover in the Enthoo Pro 2, makes hiding the cable jungle way easier 😂 aaand here we have the results up front. not bad for someone whos been out of the desktop game for 15 years, eh? 😎 im pretty happy with the results! ive also already installed the LF II 420 in the front, but havent gotten around to taking pics yet. ill follow up tomorrow, including some RGB vomit unicorn party pics when the system is switched on 😄 tomorrow ill also continue with downloading all drivers, updated OS and programmes, should take me a while. then off to fresh install! ive played around a bit with the bios and updated it to the newest version 0705 up from the initial 0511. SP rating of my 7950X is 116, which seems to be average (pre-production or early production samples for the press were around 109, other users have so far reported 114 up to a single golden sample at 119, seems like the SP spread is so far pretty tight on Zen 4). my "cooler score" was calculated at 172 pts, which seems to be on the high side from what ive seen so far. no idea what that means though, likely some kinda capability score with which the cpu knows how high it may boost. some quick n dirty manual overclocks with most settings left on auto resulted in DDR5-6400, as well as 5.7 GHz all core at 1.25V VCore. this is of course without any stress testing, just whatever was capable of booting into bios. aight, enough for today! my trigger finger is ready for tomorrow to snipe the last major piece of this BEASTLY puzzle, the 4090 😉

semantics 🙂 same with naming it "Tea Ay" or "Tie" (Fighter) 😛 i have the feeling that depending on how far ahead they are vs. AMD they name it the former (Titan = ahead by a wide margin) or the latter (Ti ahead but trading blows) word. 1440p drives the 4090 into a cpu bottleneck, doesnt matter which cpu u use. and even at 4K some games push it into the cpu limit, its insane 😄 -

thats pretty much the sad state of gaming atm: we have a gpu that is so blistering fast that it even bottlenecks current highend cpus at 4K, but at the same time basically all current and newer games are horse crap... -
not ready for a switch to linux just yet 😅 itll be for both work and fun.

haha i feel you man. were currently on the lookout for a new appartment to rent and ill be happy if i get my own room / mancave or a corner where i can put all my stuff. thats life! 😄 whats your time plan for your build? any ideas on specs yet? yes and yes. i got it directly from Arctic via their ebay account, that way i could be sure i got a sku without any of their recent troubles with faulty sealing rings. btw, first successful boot today! w00t w00t! initially i had trouble getting it to boot, was showing memory error codes. after some trial and error i found out that the board prefers the first two sticks to be in A2 and B2, strange. ill do a bios update and see if that changes anything. also noticed that the case LED strip is not lighting up, but ill check that sometime later. for now, thats not a priority 😛 next step is to get all the drivers, os and software together and go ahead with the install! ill post some more pics later on 🙂

ius Newegg drunk or smth? wth... i also saw someone post on Ebay, offering 4090s from "various brands" with availability "on 12th Oct onwards" for 3500-4000€. completely nuts. i hope both of them will be left with their d***s hanging out when they realize NO one will be buying from them.... oi! HAPPY victim, aight? Stockholm Syndrome FTW! 🤣 but jokes aside, im not expecting that much of a difference betwen 13900K and 7950X. my prediction: depending on the games and productivity tools tested, some reviews will see the 13900K ahead, while others will crown the 7950X instead. and in the context of the whole platform and longevity / future upgrades, AMD just makes waaaay more sense to me than a few % more performance in select games / programs (worst case). as for the 4090Ti, rumour mill is saying that Nvidia for now is holding back on launching a Ti / Titan Lovelace card since theyre having trouble with heat n power consumption lulz. so dont expecting anything like that so launch soon, rather a year or so from now... -
did u get ur hands on that A4500 yet? where are u gonna put it?
-
ugh, havent yet decided which OS im gonna put on my beastly desktop yet, still building currently. but this doesnt bode well...
-
what would u be using the second card for? especially since the 4090 did away with the SLI / NVLink connectors...
-
what brother @Papusan said. basically impossible to find more than one 2.5 inch drive bay nowadays, even more so in combination with an optical drive (bay). ud have to go back a few gens and check the big DTRs of Clevo, MSI, Alienware to maaayyyybe find something along those lines.

oh wow thats crazy! i expected win11 to have way more market share by now 😮
-
amen to that. i remember during the pandemic i was sooooo itchy to get new hardware but now i am sooo glad i didnt pay those absolutely insane prices. AM5 platform and 4090 now seems frugal in comparison 🤣
-
well now THATS a "coincidence" in timing.... 😄 but about time if u ask me, its been 6 years! and way too many niche benchmarks for mobile, office pcs, ssds, cpus, etc...

and so it begins... i was baaaarely able to fit all the boxes on our small living room table 😄 big box in the back bottom for the Neo G8, top for the Enthoo Pro 2 SSD, CPU and RAM install was a breeze. nothing really changed since about 15 years ago or vs. laptop hardware 😄 just everything way BIGGER and BEEFIER! this pic is without the mobo heatshield for the SSDs, needed to leave it off until the mobo was installed in the case due to covered screw holes. heres the mobo inside the case. the X670E Extreme is MASSIVE in E-ATX factor, so yeah....imagine what a behemoth the case is to make the mobo look so small 🤣 aside from having unpacked and checked everything and prepping the keyboard (switched out some buttons on the Ducky One III, can see the kb on the top of the third pic), thats it for building today! tomorrow ill continue with the CPU cooling and PSU 🙂 this is SO MUCH FUN! 😁 edit: fixed images

true dat, the last bastion of standard MXM are the industry/medical/defense/automation partners that force Nvidia to support them until end of their lifecycle agreements. who knows how long thats gonna last. and even then, were talking insanely expensive Axxxx / ex-quadro cards.
