  4. dude, im not trying to attack u here, so no need to get so defensive! 😄 simple reason why i didnt point it out to @Mr. Fox or @Papusan, namely that I didnt read this whole thread and didnt check every single screenshot posted here. so chillax, i just got curious when i saw ur screenshot and wanted to know more, thats it 🙂 im just taking an interest here! good info, i didnt think 5.0+ ghz all core was doable on an 5950x without subambient cooling. what ive mostly seen is maybe up to 4.7-4.8 all core. but maybe that is benchstable vs. everyday stable. i guess it depends on the perspective. if you compare based on thread count then ure absolutely right, of course. and that also makes the most sense in the hwbot context, since the categories are based on core or thread numbers. i was looking at it from a pricing and generational tier perspective, i.e. highest tier intel vs. highest tier AMD in the current gen. 12900K has less threads but an advantage regarding reachable clocks, so i actually expected it to be able and beat the 5950X going head to head in CB. i didnt expect the amd chip to be able and clock that high on all core, so thats cool to see!
  5. um... so out of the box theyre basically on par in CB, but the 12900K i could imagine reach overall higher clocks with subambient cooling vs the 5950x. soooo i would expect the former to beat the latter. thats why i was asking. but if ure just doing initial testing on the chip then ok, still at the beginning, more to come. hope this is more clear now 😄

  7. hmmmm... that looks familiar somehow 😁 another quick update on the RAM: i now tested all four sticks individually and determined that 3 out of the 4 are able to do 3800 Mhz on Gear 2, with 2 out of the 4 capable of 3500 Mhz at Gear 1. now to check and see the bandwidth / latency on those two and tighten up all the subtimings as far as possible.
  8. yep, for sure. liquid metal under the IHS can easily make a 10-15C difference. 20C might be a bit of a stretch, but it aint unheard of. likely a combo of beneath and above the IHS. plus different cpus, systems etc.... lots of variables.

  10. indeed. there were some leaked internal preliminary tests by AMD that showed the following: 1st gen 3D-VCache 5800X3D vs. 5800X = +15% faster 2nd gen 3D-VCache 7000X3D vs. 7000X = +30% faster imagine Intel's reaction when AMD brings 30% faster gaming cpus just a few short months after Raptor Lake hits the shelves, which in turn are only a few % faster than non-3D Zen 4 cpus 😄 its definitely an awesome time for PC enthusiasts with lots of competition going on.
  11. because they will quickly follow-up with second gen 3D VCache in Q1 2023 already! i dont really think AMD is worried too much about Raptor Lake... should be a very close call across all disciplines. in the end ill choose to go with the platform that offers significantly longer lifetime 😛

GPU prices be like: haha sorry couldnt resist! ðŸĪĢ but yeah, this is indeed a combination of factors that merits a low-priced new gen of gpus, very strong competition from AMD with RDNA3, flodded used market, mining crash, high inflation, most consumers being cautious and gamin' aint really a high priority in this economy for most people...

  15. at least Arctic is doing an exemplary job of getting ahead of this and offering free service to their customers, no questions asked: this behaviour only confirms my plan to go with an arctic LFII 🙂
  16. take ur time, such things better not be rushed 🙂 im not sure if the TM stock bios already implemented support for CFL-R or if u actually need a modded bios for that. but first things first, lets cross that bridge when we get there. as plan B u might still be able to flash Dsanke bios for proper support.
  17. it can sometimes take a bit of time until the capacitors are fully drained of all power. also, be aware that after a cmos pull the first boot takes a lot of time, let it sit for at least 5-10 minutes to make absolutely sure it does not boot. so i assume ure trying to boot with the 9900K? has it successfully booted before in your machine?
  18. have u gotten the 9900K to boot at all yet in your machine? or is that still with ur old cpu? if its with the 9900K and u havent gotten it to work at all, swap back the old cpu and update ur bios & EC to the newest versions. if its with ur old cpu, take out RAM, battery, power cable and the CMOS battery, then keep the power button pressed for 20 seconds, reassemble and try again. thatll reset ur bios, NVRAM and EC to default values in case u made some non-booting changes.
  19. so much for their exaggerated marketing regarding ULTRA UPGRADEABLE LAPTOP when they initially launched the area 51m... aint nobody gonna tell me they HAD to implement those super slight mods so as to make the new gpus incompatible with the old chassis....ugh
  20. im in a similar situation, upgraded my initial 6700K to 7700K and then to my current 9900K. iirc the TM had stronger CPU VRMs on the mobo, so juice-wise ull likely be able to clock higher than me. at the same time though, i have a SiliconLottery binned chip thats in the top 5% of all 9900K so less voltage needed to reach certain multis. one core u can basically go as far as the silicon lets you, u just need to ensure that the applied voltage offset is also stable at the higher core count multis. the max settings i could achieve wattage and thermal wise were the following, at -100mV offset: 1C = 50x 2-3C = 48x 4-5C = 47x 6C = 46x 7C = 44x 8C = 42x note that these settings are for everyday usage, including hot summer days and heavy loads with AVX enabled. so fire and forget, basically. based on testing, i was able to run up to 46x all cores on medium to heavy-ish loads without AVX, gaming could potentially be even higher. so depending on - your ambient temps - your cooling capabilities (i.e. thermal paste, liquid metal, delid, copper IHS, etc.) - your chip quality (UV stability) - VRMs (max wattage possible before your mobo gives out) - usage pattern (AVX, non-AVX or gaming only) u will see significantly different results. best thing to do: get to know your specific chip and its limits in your particular machine with the applications u most use. its a journey! 🙂
