Yeah this is as good as it gets, I doubt anybody will be able to do more than that. I also think it is a miracle that this is possible given the size of the mainboard and the cooling, very impressive! So yes, 5.3 on 10 cores is epic and it will probably be some time until this can be exceeded as future processors will seemingly be limited to 8 performance cores.

One of the reasons why until now I have never considered a laptop with AMD CPU is that interesting chassis never had Thunderbolt. Hope that will change at some point so that I may consider some multicore 16+ cores AMD powered DTR in the future.

No problem, let it be all it can be. And to be honest 5.3 on all cores ain't half bad on a laptop 😄

Can't say I like the fact that this is only a BGA book but the idea of the LPP seems simple and very effective. Not sure how much of it is patented as it seems to me that it would be easy to emulate by other manufacturers but it seems to be a game changer. Based on specs and real life performance it would probably be my choice of BGA book right now except that the price now is really quite high and that I need more memory and storage. I also love the 16:10 17" WQXGA screen.

Somebody please tell Clevo that DTRs do not HAVE to have ultra shitty battery life, the KM-G also is pretty hopeless. I also deactivated all that bling on the GT75, only kept the keyboard illumination.

Looked at it now and for some reason I had thought of a different model, what a monstrosity 😄 Must have been produced about two years after the HP Dragon when shiny plastic was more of a thing. I like my laptops with a matte / aluminium black finish and a matte screen so that early Clevo is a bit much design wise but gotta love the fact that it was all socketed back then.

Yep, that was VERY long ago. My favorite screen size is the one on this one: By my calculations with todays slim bezels we could easily fit a screen of that size in a chassis the size of the Alienware 18 or the MSI GT83 so much more compact compared to that 16 lbs monster 😄 First and at the same time last laptop with an 18.4" 4k display was this one by the way. Really liked the look and the keyboard arrangement (no hobbit numpad, full size arrow keys) but unfortunately only a BGA book:

No, there is not a single screen bigger than 17.3" but then not too long ago there wasn't a single 16 or 17" 16:10 screen and look where we are now. There are even 3 different resolutions for the 17" screens with 1920 x 1200, 2560 x 1600 and 3840 x 2400. As far as socketing goes Lenovo even has socketed GPUs for its upcoming 16" workstation so that would not even be that much of a surprise.

By definition a big DTR will take away some sales from laptops of the same brand, no idea why you would dispute that. As for the poor battery performance of DTRs it is a myth and only due to Clevos ineptitude and not by design. Battery life was a lot better on the all socketed MSI WT75 for example and @win32asmguywill be able to confirm that. As for brands not being a thing in the laptop world I invite you to have a look at the forums of HP, Lenovo or MSI and certainly others where there are a lot of brand loyalists. Anyway I have made my point. There is not really too much incentive to continue this as some of us here kicked around a number of good ideas imo but until AMD or Nvidia show some support we will continue to get BGA books with an occasional socketed CPU or GPU but nothing else.

I am not sure that the issue with a DTR system is not simply that nobody makes any money off it. The issue probably is that companies like to make LOADS of money. Now a DTR poses two issues on the financial side: 1. It probably sells enough to make a small profit, maybe even a relatively handsome one but certainly not huge sums. 2. It shows up the thinner and lighter BGA books that by comparison look weak in multiple aspects and sales will probably be affected negatively. This can be an issue but then if only one company offers a DTR they can also get customers from other brands who will switch brands for a proper DTR.

Think about a motherboard for a BGA-book. Now think about the GPU chip. Make it socketable and I cannot really see why it would not be possible to make it compatible for example with a 3060, 3070 Ti and a 3080 Ti. Power delivery would of course have to be capped according to the capabilities of the board but other than that why not? And yes I can see where this would be a bit more complicated than doing this for a CPU but it would be doable if Nvidia and AMD would HAVE to do it.

Yep, we have zero choice while there are thousands of BGA books - not OK. And if it had to be one or the other I would of course choose socketed 😄 Thinking about it I would strongly prefer if Nvidia and AMD would also sell their graphics chips in the same way that AMD and Intel are selling their CPUs. It could be so much more fun and a lot less electronic waste after an initial adaptation period.

Not at all - it is just that they should be allowed to exist in the first place. Currently we do not have one fully socketed DTR and the three highest performing 3080Ti machines from Eluktronics, MSI and Asus are BGA only with a maximum weight of ca. 7lbs and a maximum power uptake of 330W which just isn't enough these days.

There are indeed benefits for that but I do not really have issues with the size or battery of DTRs except for the worst examples that may have about 2 hours battery life. What I find annoying is that some gaming laptops look rather gaudy and not understated enough. With the ability to switch off all RGB and a business like neutral greyish or black exterior I would probably be quite happy with some gaming machines except for the way they have logos on their top cover or with some lighting effects that cannot be switched off.

USB-C is still only one port if I don't have a hub so when it is taken for display port duties I cannot use it for charging or anything else any more. I used to use these ports on my MSI GT72: power ethernet analog audio stereo headphone or digital optical output mini display port HDMI display port via thunderbolt 5 x USB-A SD-card That is 13 or 14 ports, good luck finding that today in devices that mostly come with a total of maybe 9 or 10 ports if at all despite having a lot more PCI lanes than before.

Not sure what you mean with this is due to lanes but if you mean the lack of ports then the new HX chips have plenty of lanes that should support at least the same number of ports as before and not less. Making power delivery via USB-C mandatory would probably be a benefit but it should not be an excuse for the higher end chipsets with more lanes than ever before.
