It's also helpful if you can indicate how experienced you are with computers. If you're a novice and don't know much, that's alright. Everyone's a novice at some point. Glossary and Explanations Matte vs Glossy Screen Matte screens have an anti-reflective coating. Glossy screens generally offer more contrast and colors are more vivid, but do produce more glare. The glare is more acute in well lit environments, like an office. If you are unfamiliar with the screen types, we would highly recommend you check some of each type out before you buy. The screen is one of the more important parts on a notebook. Refurbished: Laptops that may or may not have been powered on. Laptops that may or may not have the security seal of the box broken. Laptops that may or may not have been used. Laptops that may or may not have minimal cosmetic "scratches". Redistributed: Laptops that where ordered and never delivered. Laptops that where place on order but never shipped. Laptops that where ordered but then canceled and never shipped. Laptop is new and sealed in box. Laptop has never been turned on. Security seal is not broken. Laptop is in mint condition. Scratch & Dent: Laptop has been turned on. Laptop has been used before. Security seal is broken. Laptop may have noticeable cosmetic dents. Laptop was fully restored to manufacturing state. Screen resolution If you are unsure of what to purchase, we would highly recommend you check some notebook screens before you buy to see what you like. These are commonly available screen resolutions. Low Resolutions: 720p (1366x768) Generally offered on only the most inexpensive of notebooks, and best off avoided. High Resolution: 1080p (1920x1080) Offered on most mid-range and better notebooks. Ideal for most usage and productivity Ultra Resolution: 3K/4K (3200x1800, 3840x2160, etc) Found on high-end notebooks. Only get a Windows notebook with one of these screen resolutions if your apps and programs are good at scaling. Macs don't have that problem.
  2. I'm not a huge fan, but I believe it's a Bible verse that I would hope for, the meek will inherit the Earth. Those who have swords, and keep them sheithed will inherit the earth, which is either another translation or interpretation. That is something I can get behind, not big on religion but lessons come from many sources. 🙂
  3. Yeah its why I dont buy from ebay outside of something obscure. I have had better experiences buying from middlemen companies for alibaba and other such sites. You could say Im jaded, but my patience for people/companies scamming me is finite.
  4. I had been using ebay for maybe 13 years? Something close that anyways. I had left a negative feedback after the board was determined to be dead due to a blown component was found. The issue was I didnt have the skills/ability to make that determination myself as I had already sent the board to @DaMafiaGamer across the pond who couldnt source one for a reasonable price point. I remember stating that there is no recourse, I didnt even open a case. They simply sold me a pre-owned board that was actually DOA. Finally after enough pestering I said that if they wanted positive feedback , they should've sent a working pre-owned board, not a DOA unit for parts or repair. Thats when the negative feedback was removed, the listing and purchase deleted (or hidden from view), with no ability to appeal. Ebay needs the sellers to look reputable while also signaling that the buyers are always in the right. I only buy local lately unless its one of you fine gentleman (or lady).
  5. I only buy from ebay, I dont sell there anymore. Last 2-3 transactions are from people that actively tried to scam me. You cant even really leave negative feedback as ebay tends to remove it with the right line of inquiry. A seller was able to remove my feedback stating that i held the feedback hostage in the transaction. They sold me a dead P750ZM board and wanted to know what they could to make it right. I said a working P750ZM board, they took that to ebay and removed the transaction from my purchase history. Not a fan.
  6. Do you mind sharing how you found the forum?
  7. Try running HWINFO64 and log the limit reasons, may give more context for zeroing in on the principle issue
  8. In the nvidia control panel, did you set as global or for individual games/applications?
  9. P750ZM i7 4790 > i7 9700F 16GB DDR3 > 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4 240GB Evo 850 Pro > (Expansion) 1TB SSD + 2TB SSD GTX 970m > GTX 1080 @ 190w 1080p60 IPS > 1080p144hz P750ZM board to P750DM
  10. I have changed the header on the top of the page to reflect the new name. Nothing else has changed at this time. Both Notebooktalk.net as well as EFGXT.net will continue to point here for quite some time and as mentioned by @joluke is already in service for when we make the change to the domain.
  11. It appeared to be a one man operation, even on this platform the amount of work/decisions to be made was a bit daunting and we still have much to do. One man operation on open source vanilla forum? I dont think it would have served the community well with the time restriction of 10 days.
  12. Gaming support has improved massively since Steam has been putting time in it, but yeah otherwise completely cogent points. I like Pop_OS and have been dabbling with Manjaro XFCE for my thin clients so far its been pretty pleasant. These days I feel like I am fighting WIndows, where as with Linux I know I am just woefully ignorant.
  13. I think Linux may have some real potential drive coming up. Same scale as Windows? Im not that hopeful but at least for most gaming it might get more exposure than it otherwise would.
  14. I do not have pleasant things to say regarding that forum, so I try to say nothing at all (and sometimes failing to do so). Thats the issue with open standards, they can be quite great especially in principle but we didnt have the time to facilitate that type of endeavor. That all being said we still have much to do here, TapaTalk/REP being the low hanging fruit. Amongst other things that I want to pursue but havent had a good time to engage in it. With Texas freezing over again here soon I may have some time to spend towards that
  15. If the system is needed in the mean time I would locate the PWM wire and cut it so that the fan just goes max speed and later modding a physical switch in later for EC control My experiences are primarily with the Ranger, I wouldnt be confident in giving further advice :(
  16. The question is malformed, but its quite commonly worded that way. We do not see in FPS/Hz although it can be measured to some degree in that manner. We perceive motion so when you have a screen that grants greater degree of fluid motion, it can be appreciated.
  17. Even just going up to 75hz is much better than 60hz. Especially if you are looking over wide landscapes and such. 120/144 does well, not sure if I can appreciate 240/360, never seen one yet.
  18. Thats what I might do on my next system but I wont be buying anything for a while yet.
