  1. You beat me to it @Mr. Fox, was thinking to make this same thread just the other day. Here's my Ubuntu 20.04. Nothing special, I'm keeping it pretty much stock (except for the icons maybe) and minimalistic. I've discovered ZorinOS not that long ago myself, but haven't tried it yet. For someone who prefers windows-like appearance or who is considering a move from Windows to Linux - this is probably the closest thing (UI wise of course).

Darn it, 5 hours? So what do you usually do while waiting? :D Very beautiful pictures, keep them coming. The one with the starts filtered out looks very interesting indeed. Will be waiting for the full-res :)
  3. Damn that thing looks super futuristic, would probably look very cool along with something like Alienware M18x R2. As for damaging the laptop's fans, I'm not sure how that would happen. Most laptops have a thin mesh covering the air intake slots on the bottom, and hence the air that is blown into the them will dissipate quite a lot. Also, looking at the video, the air does not go straight up like it would from a fan, but rather it blows more or less parallel to the laptop then starts curling up around the middle.
  4. Yeah, that could make sense. 7670, is that a hint to a 16" display? I wonder if it's going to be bulkier than 7560, or maybe they managed to keep same dimensions/weight by reducing the bezel on the bottom.
  5. Damn it, I don't like that at all. I wonder what would be the reasoning behind that kind of move. Thanks a lot for the updates. Looks like we're going to see some more stuff soon as you predicted :)
  6. I'm pretty sure in such cases one does not need an AV :)
  7. CoolerMaster Notepal U3 laptop stand. Planning also to get some fans some day and customize it a bit.
  8. Interesting to see this new version of Opera, haven't used it since like forever. I used to like Firefox before it's move to WebExtensions API back in the days, but haven't really gotten to use it much since then. I heard performance was greatly improved lately, but I'm just lazy to try it out again. I've moved to Brave from Chrome several years ago. It's pretty much the same, but a little more "privacy oriented".
  9. That would be nice, but I don't see it happening just yet. Microsoft needs to screw up a bit more for there to be a massive outflow of users to Linux. Maybe Windows 12? Linux, even distros like Mint with a Cinnamon desktop, which has a very close "windows look and feel" to it, requires getting used to. And "change is hard", especially for an average non-techy user. I'm still trying to get my wife to move to Mint, but every time I bring it up - I get rebuffed with questions like "Does it have Excel? What about PowerPoint? And ... ?" And saying, yes, you can install a free alternative of MS Office does not help my case Gaming support in Linux has also been improving lately, but still isn't really there yet to be a full replacement for Win.
  10. Some do, but I fear that a lot of people don't actually research anything before installing a new version of Windoors. And with Microsoft using every conceivable trick to push the update on users, I think even more people will get hurt after the fact and won't even know they could avoid it.
  11. Can you blame them? Win11 is cr*p at best, so why can't people express their frustration with it in a way they want, provided it does not break the forum's rules. Besides, if you see the content you don't like - isn't it easier to just skip it over and move on instead of telling others what they should or shouldn't write about?
  12. Also saw King's Man (2021) the other day. Can't say it was as great as to warrant watching it again, but good enough to watch once at least. I also think it was better than the first too. Another movie finished today was CODA (2021). I think it was quite good, and surprisingly even funny at times. Could definitely recommend this one.
  13. I only delete if I didn't like it, otherwise why would I delete something I like :)
  14. This should really by "stickied" or in your profile/sig info. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Such a beauty it's almost unbelievable. Thanks so much for the full-res @cucubits !
  17. You're talking about Finn, right? :) It is great, and often you can get a really nice deal for something. But sometimes, the prices are also not that different from what you get in a store for a new thing. Plus you don't always find the exact thing you're looking for. So there's always an element of "luck" I would say. There are similar marketplaces in other countries also, from what I know. Although in Norway, Finn is pretty much a "monopoly" in this space. I really hate that the government introduced 25% tax on everything outside of the country a couple years ago... Now you need to pay tax on even the smallest amounts. I used to get cheap junk on Aliexpress every once in awhile. Now it usually doesn't make sense to buy there with the added tax.
  18. So what's the use-case for this "intrusion warning"? IIRC, Dell never voided the warranty if you open up the laptop and/or change some of the parts like SSD or RAM. Or has something changed in this regard?
  19. Is there anything noteworthy out there with a thinner heatsink that will fit? Or is a "heatsink-less" the only option here?
  20. @Aaron44126, great write-up! I wish some Win11 PM from microsoft saw your post and did something about all these issues.
  21. I think the "first microsoft" at least partially exists because of a large development community which both needs and develops these tools. I don't think .NET would be this big if it wasn't developed, and microsoft is interested in .NET being big. WSL was a necessity IMO. A lot of companies do not allow you to have anything but Windows on your PC, and even in those that do many developers still prefer Windows I think. Before WSL something as basic as SSH had to be done through the likes of putty, for example. If they didn't fix this - a lot of developers who use tools that are not natively supported on Windows would be practically forced to switch to Linux or Mac. Azure is good, but it's not free :)
