Nice. Pay premium for nothing. And too expensive for office use (the cooling is most likely adquate for an locked down cpu). Does this mean we will get a much cheaper KF chips if Intel don't pack in the GFX tile on all PCBs? I doubt it. All too many would scrap pay premium for an K chips if that become an option. The SSD, a PCIe Gen 4 NVMe drive, is in an 11.5 x 13 mm package, which Dell calls the smallest in the industry. It's in a BGA, or Ball Grid Array, which uses solder to permanently attach components. You won’t be replacing it if it fails or swapping in something bigger or faster down the line. And the battery is integrated, so replacing it will be a chore if you can do it all. Elizabeth Chamberlain, director of sustainability at iFixit, said there are several XPS 13 laptops with soldered RAM in her organization, which she had hoped to see change in future revisions. "We have quite a few XPS 13s deployed at iFixit, and we have had reliability problems with XPS 13 machines with soldered-in RAM failing," Chamberlain said. "When that happens, we have to replace the entire expensive main board rather than swapping out RAM like we can on the XPS 15. Rather than reversing that design mistake, Dell appears to be doubling down." " Dell representatives wrote to Tom's Hardware. "Each product is a series of decisions based on what the customer needs, wants and will value. Today's notebook Jockey's.

Impressive? Engineeer/design a smartphone MB to fits into a bigger chassis than an Iphone ain't impressive at all. Just stupid. From my article above... But perhaps most importantly, it has Dell's smallest ever motherboard (approximately 180.15 x 38.34 mm). This allows the company to cram a large, thin battery in, keeping the laptop tiny and, presumably, long-lasting. (We haven't gotten to test the XPS 13 yet) It's borrowing from the smartphone engineering world for both the motherboard and the RAM, soldering memory that typically goes over smartphone processors to the motherboard.

Dell’s New XPS 13 Shows the Price of Going Too Thin Its innovative engineering won’t be friendly for simple repairs and upgrades. As other laptop manufacturers chased the MacBook Air, so did they chase the XPS 13. So when the XPS 13 goes thin enough as to be almost totally unrepairable or upgradable by users, I took notice. How much would Dell give up to shave 0.03 inches off the prior model? Ever since Steve Jobs pulled the first MacBook Air out of a manilla envelope at the MacWorld Expo in 2008, the laptop industry has been chasing accolades for the thinnest and lightest designs. And while the MacBook Air has continued to be a white whale, one Windows laptop has become almost as recognizable: the Dell XPS 13. But where leaders lead, followers follow. Sure, gaming laptops are likely to stay upgradeable, as will workstations. But if the XPS 13 succeeds, we may see a world where even fewer thin notebooks can be repaired or upgraded at all. What? Gaming laptops upgradeable? Nope. The editor is blinded by own lack of tech knowledge. @Mr. Fox @electrosoft

If Intel got rid of the baby cores meant for Jokebooks and instead added more real cores and on top went back and offered AVX512 support you could gain some performance uplipt in 3DMark Time Spy Extreme.... And AMD will of course have it. See it this way... Intel double castrated their newer chips (Loads of E-cores and fused off AVX512 support). Can't beat stupid. Or can you? https://www.anandtech.com/show/11895/a-first-look-at-futuremarks-time-spy-extreme-dx12-benchmark-in-4k Intel continue help AMD to take market shares due own stupidity/Greed. Not the way it should have been. Intel should have been the frontman and offer people more and better features/even more performance. Not the opposite. And they are taken with their pants down, time after time from AMD. -
Seen the Cpu heatsink? Even worse than you get in BGA laptops. Two pipes for an 125w unlocked 12700K Cpu is retarded. On top of the whole mess, one of the pipes from the GPU saturate the small wimpy Cpu heatsink grill with more heat. Remember Intel have scrapped the PL1 for desktops to keep Turbo boost active in full all core load. Clevo's HW engineers is drunk!!!

As bro @Ashtrixsaid. Make new silicon then afterwards fuse off features is disgusting. And as bro Ashtrix again said.... The editor at Igors lab scrapped the idea upgrade to the better KS chips because of Intel's retarded move removing AVX512 support. As a note. My quite good 12900K have AVX512 support. Not that I use it but i never know later. Better have more than less, isn't it? 🙂 Imagine you bought a car with 5 step automatic gearbox, then the car manufacurer said no you don't needed it (no need for reaching 200 mph) and then fused of the 5 gear after your last visit to the car service. This is Intel today.... Intel's new line of low-power, low-cost and low-performance x86 and x86-64 microprocessors. I expect they see profits into this. Intel Silently Slips in new Atom C5000 Series Processors By Hilbert Hagedoorn on: 06/09/2022 10:15 AM | 3 comment(s) ] Intel has announced the first six models in the Intel Atom C5000 series. All of the new parts have QAT onboard, which will be a bigger feature later in 2022 and into 2023. PCIe generation for all of the parts is listed as only PCIe Gen3 on Ark. Read more -
Even if it peaked to 140W and long term 90W this is well below Intel's specs for this Cpu. Aka fully crippled. And they have both capped TDP and Cpu temp target well below specs.

What a Ugly mess. What's the point add in an 125 W LGA 12700K in a laptop if the Cpu ain't able to run the way its meant to do? Neither will Clevo let the Cpu run at temps the Cpu can handle. Isn't this a flawed design from Clevo bro @Mr. Fox @jc_denton ? This level of engineering from Clevo is darn disgusting. From bro Fox article.... "Former Intel engineer Francois Piednoel also said the special instruction simply didn't belong in laptops," Then re-read my post. The new Hybrid chips is mobile laptop chips that is re-used in desktops. And Intel forgot to fuse it of in the validation process. Remember Intel was so afraid for AMD's progress that they put all work into chips that will work best for laptops. OEM and notebooks is their bread and butter. AMD increases notebook CPU share during record quarter for quarter......... Intel could fuse of AVX 512 inrstructions for all chips that goes directly to notebooks. But nope. Unisex is todays word. -
The main problem is that the more powerful laptops will follow same paths/trend. The only difference will be the weight differences. Same size for all but the more powerful laptops will be slightly heavier to travel with. Aka tomorrows laptops will be smaller and tablets will be bigger, LOOL Apple iPad Pro 2022 rumours emerge with talk of a 14.1-inch and Apple M2 powered version

Damn disgusting (Intel). AMD will offer AVX512 for their coming mainstream chips and Intel prefer fuse it off because the (small baby cores) Hybrid chips is meant for Jokebooks. This will be a choice between pest and cholera (Intel vs AMD). It seems Intel is happy enough offer the best single threaded performance. Become the single threaded KING. And I expect the notebook/Jokebook/tablet market is what they will put all their eggs into. Why bother offer more than absolutely necessary? -
Forgot to add in. Dell follow Apples steps for their iphone's. Ditching the earphone jack. Why not just buy a smartphone instead for this new thin and slim mess? @Mr. Fox @Ashtrix Maybe all OEMs also should remove more of the I/O ports for desktop motherboards? Why not just a single port for mouse and KB and get rid of the rest as Dell try for their Jokebooks? Dell’s adds Alder Lake CPU to XPS 13, but ditches the earphone jack

Thinner XPS 13 Laptop Uses Dell's Smallest Ever Motherboard pcmag.com Dell launched a new XPS 13 today, which not only counts as its thinnest and lightest 13-inch laptop, but utilizes a motherboard that's 1.8x smaller than last year's model. As with other laptop brands recently, Dell updated the XPS 13 to take advantage of Intel's 12th Gen Alder Lake processors. However, Dell's engineers also took the opportunity to carry out a major design rethink inside the laptop. In the process, they developed and manufactured the smallest motherboard Dell has ever created, allowing more tech (and bigger speakers) to be packed into its tiny frame.
