introduction Notebook Check PC games performance list
Hertzian56 posted a topic in News & Announcements
https://www.notebookcheck.net/Computer-Games-on-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.13849.0.html A nice easy to see games benchmark list with different settings by NBC thought it would be a good general reference here. I'm wary of course because of the different cpus, ram, OS, etc that can effect the fps which is so specific but it's a good indicator for general use. They also needed to lock the gpu list to the left side so you can easily scroll sideways to the game of interest. Most games unfortunately don't have a dedicated benchmark as well so it's hard to know where in game they get their numbers from. They don't seem to have observed fps numbers posted for each card so it looks like they are just extrapolating based on what they have. Still I find them generally accurate in the few games I bothered to compare. GTAV and TW3 look to be the most tested for obvious reasons.- 1 reply

Isn't BB 2 weeks only on most returns though? I never really liked bb anyways, you can just go online and find better deals usually or just lightly used stuff. Last thing I bought there was my old 1060 6gb evga mini itx card for $250 a year or two before the mining craze. -
Not bothering me really just a funny bother. When solo "camping" in one of these curated campgrounds, which is almost empty in the loop, and getting a spot you think no one would show up and ruin the solitude but in your mind you're like, "there are people with different standards/wants of privacy/solitude so who knows, but nah I'm fine" Empty.Loop. A friendly couple of asian descent shows up and there goes that lol. Nice people, not too knowledgeable about camping in a campground so I helped them out a bit. Where I originally come from there's so much open space that you can go pretty much anywhere and really wild camp but that's fairly rare now in the USA it's all bought up or the "owners" aka gov don't want you there.

I was going to check this modders stuff out, he has a few really cool things for classic nintendo games. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/super-mario-odyssey-64-super-mario-odyssey-romhack-for-super-mario-64-is-available-for-download/

We had a decent discussion on nbr about it I think someone did end up getting one, nbrchive probably has it. It's good if you are ok with non-gaming or very lite gaming because you can't upgrade the gpu separately from the cpu, whole mobo is no different than any other bga one except for the input ports etc being modular which wouldn't be too useful imo. I've never had the need to change ports apart from needing a minimum of 3 usb ports but that could be solved by just a hub. The cpu's were not top level stuff I think just the 4 core i7's and below. From what I remember they only have igpu's as well, so no casual or serious gaming. 13" screen only too and from what I remember it was 60hz and somewhere above 1080p but below 1440p so an odd resolution. I do like the fact that they are designed with swapping things out, it's a major pain to do it with your typical laptop now. Keyboard comes to mind for laptops especially. I hope they grow because it would be nice to get some generic options for at least the ports besides buying directly from them only, kinda like car parts etc Still from a price standpoint you'd get better specs from a low end 3060 laptop for about $1000. I think the minimum you'd spend on a framework for a configuration with windows, 8gb ram, 256gb, typical ports, cheapest wifi card etc is about 1100$. A 16gb model with a better cpu would be go beyond $1500.

Probably shouldn't have even released it for pc and stuck to the console version. Can't imagine a xx70 shouldn't be able to run it at at least 2k/60 if it was properly optimized. I'm not aware of the status of ue5 or if they are even making games with it yet. A lot of those generic ue4 horror etc games do take a lot of resources out of proportion but I haven't bothered with any of them for a long time.

Big surprise I know but TW3 "next gen" is delayed indefinitely. It's just a refresh and integrating new tech, how hard is that for a megastudio? It looks amazing as is to me but I realize it could look better, have things like RT and DLSS etc I think it's mainly for consoles but afaik will include a pc release. Mods have probably done a lot for the 2015 release, especially if you look close at times it has some fugly textures but doesn't take much away imo. I only have a couple of small QOL mods for the game. I'm not sure about the pricing but I would imagine they would want full price for it which seems not quite right. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-witcher-3-next-gen-has-been-indefinitely-delayed/

COH1 skirmish, although the maps I have installed are getting stale have to dig up my library to keep it fresh. I got this game back in 06 bundled with an 8800 GT which from what I remember was the xfx version with the graphics on it, thing died and they sent me a 9800 gt as a replacement lol That card cost 250$, I'm not getting old I AM old😆

Lol thanks. Yeah my guess is someone who was involved with the starting of kotaku was familiar with japanese and played with it, it is kind of a nerdy focused website. I guess maybe I could just ask in their comments section or maybe they have an "about" link.

Well a test run for UE right? Doesn't sound like there's plans for a full game.
-
That's totally weird and doesn't look comfortable to me, I try not to associate where I rest with gaming which isn't restful most of the time. What does Kotaku refer to if otaku is for nerd? used to go to that obnoxious webring of sites of which kotaku is one of them.

What about android apps running on w11? Does it work smooth? I'm trying to think what android apps I would want to run on a computer, the ones I use most are browsers. The phone specific app that I use most is just maps for directions on the fly in the car or walking around no need while I'm sitting at a computer. Idk maybe a cloud thing for getting photos off your phone instead of plugging it in or taking out the micro card, or if your phone doesn't have a micro slot and you use a cloud storage service on your phone. Going the other way it seems like a windows install on a 7-10" tablet would need pretty beefy hardware. Still strange to me that windows discontinued it's phone OS, such a huge market to abandon. I never had a windows phone though.

There is some stuttering but nothing that is excessive imo, usually when you first boot up or come off a fast travel point you get slight stutter. I don't remember any significant stutter during boss fights and there are not enough enemies at once to get stutter from what I remember. No idea about patches as I've uninstalled for the space. I was at 1080/60 or sometimes windowed 900p while watching something. I think at least some of peoples problem is not restarting the system before playing, GTAV etc I can get a stutterfest at times unless I restart. I'm still at 471.11 drivers.

Well here's at least one idea as to performance of the demo, I've also read that you just get generic stuff not actual matrix characters. https://www.dsogaming.com/videotrailer-news/unreal-engine-5-the-matrix-awakens-tech-demo-runs-with-30-50fps-on-an-nvidia-rtx3090-in-4k/ Oh btw if you read the person who actually played it on their pc in the yt video they say there is no way to change or know for sure what resolultion it's at and says that the pixel density suggests 1440p or 2k NOT the 4k in the article title, sloppy research from dsog once again. No menus in it either.
-
Oh sorry guess I didn't read that right then, hopefully we get some PC gameplay videos from random people to see what it looks like regular in game.
-
Yeah just saw that about Max Payne, just replayed MP2 late last year, one of the few noir videogames and really great. I just hope they don't add in a bunch of activism stuff and just stick to modernizing the graphics and controls. I hope they even keep the original voice actors. They will probably feel the need to make the levels larger too to keep up with how large most game worlds are since then and what people expect for their dollar now, which wouldn't be a bad thing. It was a pain to get xpadder working on it. Didn't care for MP3, never played MP1.
-
I didn't dig deeper than the article but I think you cannot "play" it, only open it up with UE5 and probably "fly" through it as you want, maybe while it plays. Kind of like if someone sends you a 3d PDF where you can move it around, get some measurements etc but can't edit it(play it). It's not a game at all but a demonstrator project in UE5. I would think the only difference from the xbox version would be the extra things you could observe about the demo while playing it on a PC, cpu usage, gpu usage, ram, vram etc at different resolutions, fps and about UE5 development etc "The City Sample is a free downloadable sample PROJECT that reveals how the city SCENE fromThe Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience was BUILT."

Which type of USB device do you use most often?
Hertzian56 replied to Sandy Bridge's topic in Components & Upgrades
I like having several different devices I can use the same chargers and cables on so micro c is very convenient, no need for a bag of cables for various devices just a few. I have held off on switching my main phone from my s5 to my A01 for that purpose, my car chargers would be useless most of the time, not of fan of those plug in ones since my small car doesn't have a lot of room around the 12v. I can use the same micro c for my phones and tablet and battery bank when traveling and using the car as a charger. It would have been cool if they had just oversized the Type C port so you could plug in a micro c, or it may fit but the actual geometry of the connector is different. I do have a couple of Type C to Type A cables for my lone device, I also use a Type A to Type C adapter for my mouse into the rear Type C port on my laptop. -
Yeah I usually regret researching personalities involved in the shows I watch, for instance Attenborough, because it usually is very disappointing. Not usually surprising though based on the themes and world views displayed in the shows, easy to see really if you have the aptitude. It used to be subtle but the last 20+ years and especially the last few years it's blatant. I mean old atty comes from the BBC and its "culture" and other high sounding places. Still like a lot of junk type shows I watch it's really for the photography which they for the most part don't mess with. Like I said earlier the older nature docs by the BBC are my favorites especially Life On Earth, Living Planet and Trials of Life, much more low key calm, honest photography, narration is mostly of observations of the footage rather than fantasy stuff and cgi deftly mixed in, "staged" nature presented as real etc The Life of "n" ones are also pretty good, not as big budget and simpler but focus on mammals, birds, plants, insects etc and were still in that era before it got blown up into a megabusiness a la cable, internet etc

Well you can now download the matrix awakens demo yourself if you want it. https://www.dsogaming.com/news/the-matrix-awakens-city-sample-is-now-available-for-download-on-pc/ "Do note that you will need Unreal Engine 5 in order to run these projects"

Rewatched the 1984 Dune which I think is pretty good if cheesy in places, the effects seem like they missed 2001 or Star Wars which were made well before it. Upon researching it on imdb I guess it is/was considered a bad film even by it's now famous director. Love Sean Young who was also in Blade Runner which I watch a few times a year. Also rewatched the Steve Mcqueen Le Mans one of the best auto racing movies.

Mesen is pretty easy to use for snes and nes and more.

Yeah agree on that, some pretty heavy hitters here in that dept. I just have two and the other one is travel/backup if one fails or I have need for a second one for some other reason, mostly just sits in the bag. I don't count a really old eepc netbook which isn't even worth selling, still browses the internet and does basic word processing. -
Lol yeah and DON'T watch any of those while eating unless you have a strong stomach, lots of animals eating each other etc
