id actually be highly interested in one of those cpus for my lady's machine. only issue being that i need one with iGPU enabled, so no diced unfortunately.

If you are interested in the 13900KS that is currently bundled with the Strix motherboard I can unbundle it. Shoot me a PM if you do want to. It is a better than average silicon sample.

I think the AMD craze drives them at the moment. Speculations of course.

What is funny is the 13900KS in the Strix mobo (part of the combo for sale) is running the AMD EXPO memory at 6400 with tight timings. It's almost identical in AIDA64 benchmark as the 9950X with painstakingly tuned 8000. Intel still stomps AMD on memory performance with faster read/write/copy and lower latency running 1600 MT/s slower than AMD.

The 9950X beats it on all-core brute force, but loses on memory performance, latency and single through 16 thread performance. It's only when the weak baby girl smartphone cores are needed that the 14900KS can't beat the 9950X on highly threaded workloads. The 8 cores and 16 threads on the second 9950X CCD run at about 1.0GHz faster than the 13th and 14th Gen Atom cores can run.

  3. I'm surprised nobody at oc.net has jumped on those CPUs and the motherboard combo. They must be scared because of the recent marketplace fraud outbreak, but maybe the guy that bought that one part being first to go out on a limb will break the ice. A number of PMs with interest. All of the CPUs are better than average samples, they just were not my best samples. Brother @Clamibot got one of them. The person that bought the white Apex got the other one.

Hold on a sec, I may be shipping to your first my friend. 🙂

I was going to message you and see if you wanted me to send you the delid tool to borrow and return after you delid. I can do it for you if you prefer, so either way works for me. Let me know your preference. The nice thing about the Intel Mycro is you don't have to worry about liquid metal going where you don't want it. There is a built-in border around the die.

ASUS unveils PRO WS power supplies up to 3000W, supporting four GeForce RTX 5090 graphics cards

Actually nice to see direct support for up to four 12VHPWR cables on one PSU. It sucks that they even exist at all, but it beats having to use two PSUs. Knowing ASUS will be ASUS, I anticipate those stinkers will charge the price of a complete PSU for each added 12VHPWR port if they think people are going to be stupid enough to go there. The boundaries of greed are limited only by the level of stupidity and complicity of those victimized by it. Overpriced products exist for one reason: because people that are driven by desire more than common sense buy them anyway.

I went ahead and bought an ElmorLabs EVC2SE module. I am sure I am a far and away from a competent soldering technician, however I am comfortable with the iron I have.

550w on chilled air is probably the max I would use for a daily vbios but now I want to see how far I can take card.  Still using cheap-o generic pads and the Kryonaught is on its dozenth or so re-application.

I can probably add a couple of 900w server PSU's just to split up the load but more importantly reduce the banshee shrieks those PSU's can produce.

No idea when the module will show up at this point but I'll keep you guys in the loop as I get more updates...

Looking forward to your step-by-step photo or video tutorial and benchmark results.

Yup, the Asus Gold Edition looks much cleaner. The MSI card look disgusting in that color scheme. If it wasn't for the Titanium material it shouldn't cost more than the vanilla Suprim model.

Equally crappy looking. Fire those idiots, too. The fact that any of them thought it was a good idea to make a gold GPU should make us all concerned about their ability to think clearly.

I just finished watching this and wow....

Just when you think Nvidia can't get any scummier, they find a way.  They really have lost their way as a gamer, enthusiast, consumer friendly maker of GPUs. Each and every cycle they keep trying to find ways to freeze out enthusiasts, push a narrative counter to what enthusiasts want and need and have just become a sad shadow of what they used to be and mean to gamers and benchers.

Make your products, distribute them to reviewers and let the chips fall where they may....

They are Intel circa 10yrs ago.

Dominant, arrogant and trying to control every narrative including creating branding partnerships and either bribing or threatening OEMs to only include their products when able to do it.

They are in a position now that they NEED to keep being on top decisively because the moment they slip, they will get AMD'd like Intel did.

Ironically, Intel is making inroads in the low end market and AMD is actually doing damage in the middle. Consumer opinion is starting to sour just a bit too.

The computer landscape is pretty sad in general right now but things like that really do not give one much confidence about what the future holds. NVIDIA is long overdue for a hard reset. Some economic hardship and lack of operating capital would go a long way in bringing them back down to reality. It would be nice to see them suffer some severe consequences for their arrogance. Bring the hurt for them. It's time and  would be much deserved.

  9. After selling both of my Z790 Apex boards, CPUs and associated parts, I am getting around to offering up the surplus parts. As I found better binned CPUs to buy, I set aside some of the great samples as backup/spares rather than selling them right away. Now I have leftovers that are still better than average. I forgot I had these hoarded away, LOL. So, I had to purchase a motherboard to confirm their identities and test them. So, now I have a new motherboard to sell that was only used to check these CPUs. I've also got a couple of bare die blocks I no longer need.

All CPUs were delidded for bare die application. They have been relidded with liquid metal for resale. All tested and found to be excellent. The IHS can easily be removed for direct die application if desired. There is only one drop of rubberized glue on each side to hold the IHS on the CPU.

Payment: PayPal Friends & Family or Zelle cash transfer

Shipping: Buyer Pays (or local pickup)

Send a PM if you are interested. No more testing or benchmarks will be performed, so don't ask.

    Item #1: Z790 Motherboard/13900KS CPU Combo - $550 + Shipping - SOLD - NO LONGER AVAILABLE -

The motherboard is essentially brand new. It sells for about $350-400 depending on where you look and when. I do not know how high it can be tuned stable. I tested an AMD EXPO 8000 kit in it and it booted up fine but needed more tuning to be daily driver stable at 8000. The CPU is mounted with a Thermalright frame and will ship in the motherboard (as currently installed). The stock ILM and socket cover is in the box.

    Updated 5/27/2025:

Well, the mobo and CPU combo deal just got sweeter. I had an old G.SKILL Trident Z5 7200 kit that had one bad stick. It was in my spare parts pile an forgotten about. I rediscovered it going through my stuff to sell and I had it replaced under warranty and today received the brand new replacement kit. I am including it in this mobo/CPU bundle at no extra cost. So, it is like getting $135 for free with the purchase. It sells for that price on Amazon today.

    G.SKILL Trident Z5 RGB Series (Intel XMP 3.0) DDR5 RAM 32GB (2x16GB) 7200MT/s CL34-45-45-115 1.40V - Metallic Silver (F5-7200J3445G16GX2-TZ5RS)

I just now opened the sealed package to install it and set the XMP profile to confirm it was good. No tuning done, just confirming the kit runs at the rated XMP speed and timings.

Took some doing to get the vBIOS to cooperate with the 7900 XTX.

Flashed via CH341A programmer with NeoProgrammer software. Originally tried the Nitro+ vBIOS, while it worked immediately it only lifted the TDP to 460w versus the 430w I was already working with.

Then on to the AQUAS vbios which was said to have a 550w TDP limit. flashed it, but lost video on all DP/HDMI ports. Switched to the backup bios, rebooted and installed some remoting tools as my keyboard was behaving as if its in OS.

Confirmed my suspicion but resolution was 640x480 at best. Reinstalled drivers but didnt seem to change the video out problem. Went for the AQUAS vBIOS from Asrock (extreme version) which did detect "Correctly" that I had the right "card" however, refused to install while an AMD driver was installed. Once I resolved that stipulation, Windows flashed the extreme vbios and my DP/HDMI ports came back to life.

To get higher I would definitely need the EVC2SE module, water cooling and chilled water. Was not able to beat @Hiew's 9070XT score of 7911 yet, maybe a fresh install of Windows, this instance has been in service for a year or so now.

I also replaced the screws on the retention bracket, and the other GPU screws as well as the previous owner was quite rough with this card before I got it. I still have yet to apply PTM7950, now that I have more or less unlocked what I can do on air its time to get that applied.

I mostly wanted to also maintain above 3Ghz, for no other reason than 3Ghz is better than 2.8Ghz 🙂

Crazy to see you moving away from 1dpc boards to 2dpc boards and prioritizing other things now but it makes sense as you've divested yourself of a good chunk of your cooling equipment and migrated back to actual cases recently.

The state of the computer market has me not feeling so zesty either. 😞

This is true, but not because I like it or want to. I hate it to put it bluntly. And, this is because almost everything is priced beyond the level of performance the price tag suggests it should offer and most of it delivers very poor value. Also because most of the overpriced "enthusiast" computer parts are crippled and gimped rainbow puke rubbish made to please the children of wealthy and/or financially foolish parents rather than actual enthusiast-grade components. While it is not quite to the same magnitude, it feels very similar to the absolute contempt that I hold for turdbooks now. I'm not ever going to be happy about wasting my money (small or large sums) on overpriced, mediocre, crippled garbage that is slopped out to market, often many months later than promised, with insufficient quantity, with unresolved defects, without sufficient QC and shoddy warranty service.

I absolutely still prefer 1dpc motherboards but the options are almost non-existent and the one or two options available now are designed in a careless, reckless and haphazard manner, without adequate regard for overall functionality. (This is true of most motherboards now, regardless of how many memory slots they have.) When you can get essentially the same performance from a 2dpc board that is a dead giveaway that the 1dpc option was just a half-assed cash grab that was crafted as something to sell to suckers (like me) that dare to hope that they will receive something awesome for their money. I was very disappointed with the X870E Apex, but I expected it to be a disappointment. That is why I cancelled the pre-order several times. I bought it with the hope that I would be wrong, but I wasn't. It may as well have been released as an iTX motherboard.

Well, at least you tried it out for us so now we know. Let me ask you this. If you didn't have the gene, would you have kept it?

No. In fact, I am probably going to sell the Gene and purchase another X870E AORUS Master. The Gene is as great as it can be, but the mATX form factor is an impediment in terms of the connectivity I want. I have only one slot for the Sabrent card. It works and doesn't hinder the GPU but it is PCIe 3.0 X1. The Master gives me two usable X4 slots (X16 size) to use as I wish without affecting the GPU, NVMe or SATA. If I were interested in a SFF build it would definitely be a keeper.

I think tomorrow I am going to put the Gene back in the Antec C8, box up the Apex and return it for a refund. It is expensive but doesn't offer me any notable performance gains over the Gene or Master, and has an unforgivable appointment of PCIe slots. I really irks the crap out of me that the only usable PCIe slot apart from the GPU is the one right above it. I do not like having the Sabrent card on top of the GPU. I don't like the fact that using the PCIe X16 slots below the GPU slot cut the GPU bandwidth to X8 (inexcusable - Gigabyte wins here). I think getting back $800 will yield more personal benefit than what the Apex can deliver. I feel like there is nothing to be gained by keeping it. It's functional limitations combined with little or no performance gains are the deciding factors here.

    No more procrastination.

Ah ha! You were being sarcastic. I love sarcasm. Yeah, I can hardly wait to buy my next FE GPU. (Yes, more sarcasm, plus there can be no next without a first. I do not intend for there to be one.)

Size is subjective. Those two SFF builds I did in the past year or so really illustrated how relative the perception can be. I was amazed by how much performance fit into a midget-sized package. But, to everyone else it was like, "Huh? What? Small? That's not small. It's just not as massive as your other computers." The way I see it is, if I can hold onto it and walk across the room with it tucked under one arm or move it somewhere else without having to use both hands to wrangle it, then to me it's SFF.

Small and densely packed jigsaw puzzle computers make me angry. I really do not care for SFF. Kind of like sitting in the middle seat on a 4-hour flight between two extra-fat and sweaty people that can't fit into the seat space allocated. Even the SFF builds I have done were 'too big' for SFF fanboys. Those that are too big can also be frustrating. O11D XL size is near perfect.
