Had time to install the new PSU today, a Corsair hx1500i, it comes with the new atx 3.0 compatibilty and with the icue monitoring connection. I find it useful, you can check every voltage and temperature 👍

Just kidding. It is amazing, and sad, how abject stupidity is becoming the new normal.

I am waiting for the 4060 Ti @ 5W TGP for Chromebook. That will run my favorite PopCap games without stuttering. Bejeweled will be better than ever.

On that note...

I'm just confused about how many CPU's Intel has for their mobile line, it's ridiculous!!!

You're telling me there's going to be a justifiable reason for the Core i5 13500HX to exist?!? I doubt that 3 or more laptop models will ever that SKU!

I get that having more is good, but this is just too much, go back to the days where you had an i5 or two, a few i7's and a single core i9 for high performance, and then the U series for Ultrabooks, Jesus...

There have been some improvements. For example, Alienware's new M18 laptop has a giant unified vapor chamber covering both the CPU and GPU, but all these models look weird to me because of the aspect ratio. I was expecting something larger in a 16:9 aspect ratio. I'll wait to see what Clevo has to offer as there is a rumored X370 model coming from them.

In short, there have been improvements, but still nothing that I REALLY like. Nothing fully upgradeable either. At the very least, I want the ability to plop in a desktop CPU into a laptop. The HK CPUs are desktop CPUs, just without the IHS and soldered onto the laptop's motherboard. With the size of these laptops, an LGA socket should be able to be easily included.

wait what? X370? whatever happened to the stillborn X270 all Intel crap edition? 😄 i sure hope that was lessons learned for them and theyre now planning to go back to their DTR roots...

any sources, additional info on this?

First run...

Impressions:

Monster card. Might be the longest I've seen.

Solidly built. I love the basic illuminated XFX logo and industrial design.

At stock fans only went to 37% running TimeSpy w/ 56c on GPU and 74c on Hot Spot pulling ~429w. XFX heatsink is a beefy beast.

Even with the front glass off while running TS I had to get up and search to find any coil whine. It was barely audible. I was wondering how it would sound with all the horror stories of insane coil whine from 7900xt/xtx cards. I'm glad to report it is one of the quietest cards I've tested.

Stock clocks top out at 2667mhz.

I plan on keeping it in my case till the 4090 arrives sometime next week and running it through its paces. I already collected some WoW FP data runs on my 32:9 display with my Strix 3080 to kick things off. Using fps monitor to grab fp run averages and other data.

Sidebar: I really need some new computer furniture and a room redesign lol. My wife keeps telling me to gut it and go full geek lol.

So answer me this..... If cryptodicking is really down, who TF is buying all the GPU's? Is it scalpers? If it is, are any of the retailers going to curtail this? This is stupid. Are the days gone when you felt you needed an upgrade, then going to your favorite reseller site, and buying on that day? At this rate, I may never get another card, unless it is a lower tier card. If its scalpers causing the shortage, this is worse than it was 4 years ago, at least you could find something at MSRP.

not that many scalpers anymore vs. during the mining boom. its rather AMD and Nvidia letting those gpus trickle out bit by bit in order to create artiificial scarcity and keep prices up as much as possible.

just look at all the shops, they still get regular batches in, just tiny in size and theyre bought up right away. then wait a bit for the pressure to build up before u release a tiny bit again....digusting tactics.

You won't see a 4090Ti at 2k😎But xx90 is the only new card without screwed up price point vs 3000 series cards. Price increase is below inflation. Can't beat that😀

ha, 4090 TI at 2k would be a total bargain. id wager 2500 MSRP if they stick to 24GB vRAM and 3.5k+ if they actually are mad enough to go 48 GB 😄

If the GPU killing driver thing were to involve an NVIDIA GPU I would be inclined to consider it a deliberate digital genocide maneuver on the part of the Green Goblin as a wicked plot to sell more GPUs to people that wouldn't otherwise spend any money.  We have already seen them in action enough times to know they are not an honorable company.

With AMD I would not think that and lean more toward a view of it being accidental or due to incompetence versus a deliberate act with nefarious purposes. However, what we are seeing with unethical pricing and market manipulation they are both shaping up to look like unscrupulous companies that don't care about their products or the people that buy them, as long as they keep making money.

haha so funny to see ur back and forths on choosing GPUs, really curious on what u will end up with for this gen 😄

lol, I had no choice but to go with a bigger case when I got my original KPE 3090 back in Jan 2021. Thing was too big to fit in my Corsair 540. 🙂 My AC LF II 420 is on the recall list. I just haven't gotten around to getting in there and swapping it out to send in.

I get that itch to see and test myself and sometimes I just end up ordering the item myself to see first hand and use it in my environment. I'm seeing insane frame drops in the actual Dragon Isles with RT on vs off. Literally halved from ~140 (frame capped) down to ~73 in some areas with the 7900xtx as Dragon Isles uses much more RT than the last Xpac and it shows when enabled/disabled. The 3080 10GB would sit at ~100fps then drop down to ~70fps. I haven't even gotten to level 70 and raid content where reports say the uplifted RT hits even harder. I'm not seeing a scenario where the 7900xtx is going to be be WoW Dragonflight card especially when the 3080 10GB is on par fps wise with RT enabled.

AMD will most likely go through an Intel level driver uplift later when the Newest driver before the last specifically addressed World of Warcraft and the performance uplift was substantial even with RT enabled. It turned the A380 into a full 1080p proper card and the A770 into a full on proper 1440p card.

Unlike Shadowlands, when you toggle RT off and on you can immediately see the difference in the environment now not just pockets here and there and spell effects when casting.

My MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 will be here tomorrow. I plan on tearing down the entire case, putting the contact frame finally on my Strix Z690, give it a righteous cleaning and probably swap in my EVGA CLC 360 so I can send back the AF LC II for a new swap.

I plan on doing some CPU utilization testing next with fixed clocks from 4.8 -> 5.3 with my 12900k to see if the uplift is meaningful with the 4090 at 4k and warrants considering a 13900KS.

They can let them trickle all they want and create a false sense of scarcity. Eventually buyers will buy when ready and the trick is to just not buy from Scalpers and you will eventually get your card. It was the same process as during the Cryptodemic but not nearly as painful as there is an exhaustion point for high levels of demand this time around along with other factors.

If someone has the means and wants a card NOW and wants to pay inflated scalper prices that's their choice (and throwing away extra money to a scalper), but patience will get you your card at MSRP and depending on make/model maybe even below MSRP (See: 7900XT).

I am definitely going to take a look at the software, but what bugs me most is there isn't any manual fan control. Unless, the USB wire that allows control of the RGB on the card, also allows you to control the fans. I didn't install the wire...i guess I will try after work.

Two X (times) retarded today... Or 2X Stupid.

Why such a awkward/stupid comparisajon? 4080 ain't worth a dime/cent above $800. They compare two totally digfferent SKUs. One is overpriced with +70%.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 vs. RTX 4080: Which 4K GPU should you buy? pcworld.com

The RTX 4080’s atrocious price makes the RTX 4090 truly seem like a much better option, with the least compromises. Hats off to you, GeForce RTX 4090, our winner!

And Corsair try a new design change. Offer ATX 3.0 certification but come with an adapter for the 12VHPWR plug. We are in 2023.. Not in 2020. I wonder who this PSU is meant for. Why scrap a real 12VHPWR plug on a brand new ATX 3.0 certified PSU?

My MSI Suprim X Liquid 4090 will be here tomorrow. I plan on tearing down the entire case, putting the contact frame finally on my Strix Z690, give it a righteous cleaning and probably swap in my EVGA CLC 360 so I can send back the AF LC II for a new swap.

If someone has the means and wants a card NOW and wants to pay inflated scalper prices that's their choice (and throwing away extra money to a scalper), but patience will get you your card at MSRP and depending on make/model maybe even below MSRP (See: 7900XT).

sweet, give us the rundown when u get it! what made u choose the suprim liquid?

and yes of course, if u got sufficient money AND the will to not overpay significantly above MSRP ull always find ways to get ur hands on hardware. just saying that even at 4090 spheres ppl seem to lose patience FAST. i mean it took me roughly 2 hours on launch day having open 12 tabs (10 for shops, 2 for reviews) with constant refreshing across all of them to get my hands on a sku i was happy with. sure, its not a total walk in the park but absolutely doable and not really a big issue when talking such crazy sums.

BUT when looking around online in the following days, most ppl were like: yeah i tried one shop and gave up after 20-30 minutes, ITS WORSE THAN DURING CRYPTO! blah... 😛

It was my original top choice along with the 4090 FE from launch. I also like(d) the Neptune 4090 but that isn't available here and would have to be imported for an arm and a leg. I had several opportunities to pick up various 4090 models in late December/Early Jan but most of them I didn't want (see below). I'm not the type to grab whatever is available. I'll wait for what I want and only direct from resellers/makers (No scalpers).

lol, as we're finding out it is NOTHING like the Cryptodemic times of 2021-2022. If it were, all those 7900xt's and 4080s would be gone and stay gone and 4090's /7900xtx's wouldn't be coming into stock and actually sticking around for more than 5 seconds.

Yeah, the Gigabyte was never on my Radar. I've had quite a few chances to grab one over the last month but zero desire. Zotacs were available too but again no desire.

For me, it was always the MSI Suprim X Liquid, 4090FE and if price was no object an Asus 4090 Strix. I might have bit on an air cooled Suprim too if that was all that was there too.

Yep, either the Strix 4090 OC or Suprim X. We can't buy 4090 FE here home. Nvidia have partners in Norway, but none of they offer it.

And Galax is out of questinon. Even if you manage to buy it in a store, you won't get same treatments (their OC software/firmware) as their in-house benchers or the "few worthy" one. So thats that. Only two choices I want. And all here home want the same cards, LOOL

No problem get 4000 series cards (a lot of them), but then you have to jump on the brand or model you "don't want". I mean whatever 4090.

We have the 4090 Suprim X in the stores here home, but I'm not that keen on a new MSI card. They are even cheaper.

From the 4090 Fe review here in Norway...

image.png.bfa100ddcd7663af7b6f25977821cb03.png

In English.

Nvidia's own Founders Edition is unlikely to come to Norway. Instead, we get a number of partner models from manufacturers such as Asus, MSI, Gigabyte, Zotac and the rest. However, performance and other characteristics should be very similar.

That sure didn't last long. I looked at the link a couple of hours ago and it was about $1,700, but now it's back up to an idiotic $2,200 and the only option available.

Thankfully, the rational part of my brain is still functioning well enough that it convinced the irrational part of my brain that $1,700 was still an absurdly frivolous price. I was tempted to add it to my cart for a minute or two, though. It sucks being tempted by impulse, but the victory of overcoming it is sweet.

If it helps we could have a banner made to shame you upon purchase, I wouldnt mind even getting commentary from @Clamibot articulating just how much money was wasted like those one liner quotes that OEM's like to use from Product reviewers.

Here to help, after all :classic_ninja::classic_love::classic_ninja::classic_love:

It probably would be no more traumatic than the self-condemnation I endured after blowing an idiotic sum on the 3090 KPE. I still haven't really forgiven myself for that, and I haven't derived enough personal satisfaction from owning it to justify a repeat act of similar indiscretion. The kindest way to describe it would be: Good product, overrated, and poor value. The 4090 is all that, on steroids. At a certain point it becomes too difficult to balance desirability against repulsive pricing for a product that will be obsolete before it is old enough to get dirty.

Barring the possibility of a momentary lapse of good judgement, probably not going to happen. I am avoiding using the word "never" because I don't care for the taste of crow meat.
