As expected, Windows 7 memory performance is better. No surprise here, since almost everything works better on Windows 7 as long as you can find a driver that works for it.

NIIwIXM.jpg

Speaking of drivers... Brother @johnksss when you eventually get your mobo situation sorted with the numbskulls at MSI, I finally found a Realtek USB Audio ALC4080 driver that works for Windows 7. My surround sound works and everything now. I found a Dell Dock driver that is OS agnostic and used the "Have Disk" method to install it.

im running my ac temps are low in my apt...prob 15-20c vs 30c has alot to do with the score but i think throttlestop was resetting by glitch as i saw 87c then it reset...yeah hahaha

after getting temps down in my room a true reading was 68c

image.thumb.png.5f0a5455d721bb789ea8ea35b86c0e89.png

now a overclock to 4.4ghz

image.thumb.png.a85248c890c82d1365f2d4469d0b7a58.png

peaked at 89c which is crazy for a 11800h in a omen 16...typically they max around 4.1ghz anything higher you throttle

and maxed out at 4.6ghz I topped 91c...this AC unit finally serves a purpose in canada where summer is winter for the rest of the inhabited planet

image.thumb.png.0f5265b8ee5cc2333699e826d641543d.png

this was the highest I could get the cpu too run at with timespy and the TS benchmark topped out at 94-95c

image.thumb.png.6be3898b822a9a73dbe7d958a34b3bdf.png

now time for r23

12261 my highest ever

@johnksss also, this specific Realtek USB Audio driver that is bundled with the AMD drivers found in the first post at  Win7/8.1 Drivers for USB 3.0/3.1 Controllers of new AMD Chipset Systems [win-raid] works fine as well and has all of the normal driver configuration options are present and accounted for. Maybe not on ASUS mobos, (not clear on that,) but working fine for other brands.

Double click on the big monitoring grid box on right. Then you'll see all the cores maximum temp and not half of them. If you only look into the tab without scrolling down or double click then you won't see the whole pict. Take also a look into the small box where you should see max temp reached.

Does someone know if there is an IMEI driver with Win 8.1 support that works with Z690? And it seems it's easier find working drivers for the older Win 7 for the new HW. Same also for graphics drivers for old EOL graphics cards. AMD you have failed. Your driver library is a mess vs. Nvidia.

yeah i have seriously been wondering if this phase right now until right before 40 series launches might actually be THE best time to get a new GPU in years. once new gen is announced, a lot of people will then sell off their current gpus to get ready for the new gen. once new gen is out, prices will skyrocket due to scalpers and basically zero availability, so that the current gen and used market will also climb again price-wise. sooo....now or never? i sure hope not... tired of those games to be honest. thats why i was SO HAPPY when i read the news today of the crypto market crashing HARD 😛

It is nice to see the prices going lower, but I cannot really muster any excitement about an AMD product. The risk of being disappointed with the outcome is too great IMHO. I already let my impressions of impressive-looking 5950X benchmarks cloud my better judgment and I haven't stopped regretting it. They were impressive benchmarks, but the overall ownership experience was lousy enough to spoil it. I don't have any basis to believe anything other than the same thing wouldn't happen with an AMD GPU.

No kidding, not going to lie I would like a couple more 3080's, well 3 more. I initially planned to cap it off at 1Gh/s but only got to 750 or so. Will see how things pan out, still making repairs to my car.

I am sorry, I do not. I hated Windows 8.X almost as much as I loathe Windows 11 and Windows ME so I did not save any product keys, ISO files or drivers for it. Deleting those files gave me great pleasure. It was an ungodly pile of **** OS. Windows 11 is insanely ugly, and a close second place, but I have to say that Windows 8.X was take-my-breath-away, give-me-a-bucket and puke-o-rama level of ugly. An unfortunate reflection on the imbeciles that produce disgusting trash like this.

It is probably ludicrous for us to expect anything better from a tech company whose President and CEO is a ~53 year old woman from China. Not exactly PC enthusiast material. Not saying it couldn't happen, but it is very unlikely. She would have to be an extremely rare individual, truly exceptional, (like us,) and I see nothing to suggest we should believe that based on how she runs a company, or how the products turn out that her company produces. To the contrary.

The only difference between Win 11 and Win 8.1 is that the older OS is usable for 2 or 3 benchmarks. There is nothing to gain from Win 11. Not so sure Win 11 is so much better out of the box🙃

But thanks for the answer.

This reminds me a lot about another company's VP. Dell Alienware also went for a woman. Not the big boss for Dell but she is the boss for Dell's gaming brand.

The only difference between Win 11 and Win 8.1 is that the older OS is usable for 2 or 3 benchmarks. There is nothing to gain from Win 11. Not so sure Win 11 is so much better out of the box🙃

No, I am not saying Winderpz 8.X is better. It's not. Winduhz 11 has more cancer because it is newer, so from a purely technical perspective Winduhz 11 is worse. It is slightly less ugly than Winderpz 8.X. Both are hideous, but 8.X is more like a tablet/smartphone OS aesthetically so that makes it uglier to me. But, both are unacceptable products, so six of one, half-dozen of the other. Both are reflections of incompetence and stupidity on the part of their creator.

I expect he would put in Win 11 over 10 if the article was from today.... Not so sure he could imagine that Microsoft would go even further and release something even worse. BTW, Win 11 is mainly created and designed around tablets and 2 in 1 touch-books. Built from (on top of) Windows 10x

It looks like Brother @Prema is getting some much-deserved publicity on LTT.

Mentioned about 14:25 in video.

I dont know if @Prema is the type to enjoy publicity, but I think its fair to say Prema has been an absolutely essential cornerstone to the enthusiast laptop market and is absolutely due, if nothing else, recognition for those efforts.

It is unfortunate to have to provide support for such pathetic turdbook feces, but excrement is all we are left with at this point in time. Being a pile of dung is a pre-requisite for mobile computing devices. That they are is simply taken for granted.

Well, it took 15 days (ordered 4/25) but I finally got shipment confirmation and tracking information from Supercool Computer on the 12th Gen direct die block. The Bykski RAM water block should be arriving from Aliexpress around Friday.
