  1. nah no issue, just a habit of mine to hunt down the most updated driver packages for a fresh install 🙂 thx for confirming. yeah ikr @cant tell it sports desktop socket, its significantly smaller and lighter than my P751DM, pretty amazing! ok so driver hunting is done and i also built the system together with my lady, just finished repadding the whole thing, might as well do it while its disassembled (we all know how crappy stock thermal pads are, both in terms of thermal conductivity and also placement!) i used fujipoly extreme, arctic and phobya extreme pads for replacement. thicknesses required were 1, 2 and 4 mm. also took some pics and will detail the position and thickness of all the thermal pads, might help other users here if they decide to do some performance maintenance 🙂 one weird thing i encountered: i took two of my ddr4-3800 sticks out of my machine to give them to my gf (thus 16GB each), but now with two sticks my machine doesnt wanna boot the memory profile anymore lol. in theory, two sticks should actually run better than four, but my system only posts the custom memory profile with all four sticks, at 2 it shows blackscreen 😄 will need to figure out a new profile i guess... but now time to hit the sack, cheers!
  2. now my first question: what does nvidia get out of it? with the green goblin, always follow the money, they never do anything out of the "goodness of their heart" 😋
  3. agreed, thats what i try to keep telling ppl who go all hype and want to "invest" into crypto. its not backed by anything except belief, might as well go to church instead, would likely have a healthier mental bump than these imaginary coins. sure, some might say that fiat money is the same, i.e. imaginary or that the stock market in general is also only based on belief. but both is only partly true, because both are based on something everyone can relate to: real economies, real companies with employees, real work being done, real goods and services being exchanged. and crypto? it goes poof, comes out of nowhere (= being "mined" via solving artificial equations that dont lead to anything except burning as much electricity as whole countries), is based on the "belief" that one might "get rich quick" (gotta love those schemes, eh?) and then disappears into the night during the next crash as if it was never there. and SUDDENLY people bitch around that theyre gonna be homeless and lost their life savings?!?! like, seriously? NEVER invest NON-disposable income! investing is by definition disposable because of inherent risks involved. sorry for the rant, but from my side there is absolutely NO feeling sorry for the idiots jumping onto such hype trains and spending basically their whole material existence on...well....nothing! 😅 oh and please dont start with "currency of the future! decentralized! anonymous! power to the people!" BS. as if anyone is using crypto as actual currency, its basically just digital chips being gambled in a global casino... 😅
  4. (n)ice! do the lower temps help with stability / oc on the ram? also how far up do u dare to go with the vdimm on ddr5? 1.575 is already quite impressive 😅would be like 1.72V on ddr4...
  5. haha i just decided its not worth the wait. if the need / want arises down the line, ill just get the screen from aliexpress / ebay and do the upgrade myself 😉 @win32asmguy hey man, which version of control center do u have? i found 3.70 as the latest, u got anything newer? currently driver hunting here... also does your machine have a fingerprint sensor?
  6. man, gotta love the older alienware stuff, theyre all built like tanks (including the laptops). every time i see a current laptop or desktop setup by alienware it just hurts inside to see such a glorious brand fall so deep.... ugh that being said, awesome work on the repainting! i like the creme-color kinda white ure using, very smoooooooooooooooooth 🤠
  7. i dont even know if id rather cry in the corner, laugh my butt of or just shrug at that. i think for my mental health the latter would probably be the best option 😄
  8. even though im not located in the states ive heard this complaint about "PLEASE GIMME MOAR MC STORES!" basically eeeeverywhere. seems like they have a very very cautious approach regarding expansion and would rather focus more on expanding / pimping up their existing stores. cant blame them, high level of competency and service is not easy to implement. same goes probably for EVGA, thats why theyre always late to the party and always low on stock (everyone wants their good shit! 😄 )
  9. got the machine in today! very sleek, got a nice feel to it. and amazing to see how much smaller the footprint is, including the 230W brick which is also way smaller than the 230W brick i originally got with my P751DM. good to see that psu tech also made some progression! next steps: compile driver package, secure erase ssd via linux, prep windows install usb, build system with gf, then install everything and get to tuning 😁
  10. how much u wanna bet theyll say that u did that? due to "unprofessional handling" of the board because u aint one of their "highly trained" technicians? 😂 man this sux a$$, im feeling for ya...
  11. ah, good ol' dremel...reminds me of the time when i dremeled together a complete heatsink for a 960M out of thin copper metal sheets interconnected with thermal paste and thermal pads used for 3D standoffs to lie flush with the card 😂 it actually worked! that was way back on an Asus C90S...good old days haha
  12. yes agreed on the W/mK values not being the end of all, at least not when it comes to exact comparisons. however, they still give an inkling of what to expect, i.e. a 2 W/mK vs. 18 W/mK vs. 75 W/mK should give a good idea of which material would perform better or worse in a direct comparison. that said, 105W at 70s to 80s looks pretty promising, what were ur ambient temps? got any other paste lying around for comparison?
  13. kinda sounds like the way newer windows versions are going.... 😅
  14. hmm....forgive me but im kinda skeptical tbh. a thermal putty at 8.5 W/mK thats supposed to be better than everything else and even on par with LM? 😐 do you have some comparison data or maybe reviews of this stuff? and yeah, with LM ull of course need to do more than one application in the beginning on fresh, naked copper to soak up the pores properly with LM first before it does not get absorbed anymore. enter @papusan and his LM on copper oven baking method 😄
  15. awesome dude! nice to see a fellow quester 🤠 yeah im also playing completionist style but also doing lots of farming (and yes i agree, can be tedious at times). on epic it sometimes gets a bit too easy but later on in legendary ive seen numerous reports that it gets HARD quite fast again. btw i can highly recommend TQVault and TQ Collector to keep track of all your gear and be able to switch around stuff between your characters.
  16. geez....seriously 🤪 this is the kind of thing that makes delayed (or better yet, manual only) updates absolutely mandatory
  17. aaaah....dark mode is the best, on all OSes and all device classes. helps protect my eyes that are accustomed to the dark after countless nights spent tuning hardware and software 😄
  18. welcome back! let's get this show back on the road 😁🤠
  19. yep this article came right to mind when reading your post: https://www.pcgamer.com/students-dont-know-what-files-and-folders-are-professors-say/ like....seriously? they dont know what files and folders are?!?!?! 🙄🤪😵 we are doomed!
  20. kool, looking forward to your reports once it arrives! 🙂
  21. i had to laugh at around 00:50 to 1:00 because thats exactly how i imagine our resident Yeti @papusan and his setup in front of his Igloo 😁😂
  22. thats ok, 1.35V is plenty, especially in a laptop with barely any airflow going over the RAM modules. usually your main problem will be the motherboard traces giving out on you. in my case i maxxed out at 3466 Mhz with my 3800 modules while still being at 1.20V for the VDimm. adding more voltage didnt help at all haha. The gear mode basically sets the RAM clocks in conjunction to the IMC clock so that they are synchronized 1:1. Gear 1 is for synchronized clocks, whereas Gear 2 allows for a 2:1 ratio so as to give the RAM a bit more headroom to stretch its legs, albeit at a performance penalty due to non-synchronous ratio. in any case! first steps: set XMP profile and reboot, switch to custom profile, leave all timings as they are and bump the speed up a bit. properly stress test via testmem5 / ram test of your choise and repeat. once you hit a wall in terms of speed, up the voltage and try again. if that also doesnt pan out, try lowering the primary, secondary, and tertiary timings one by one, followed by testing. i.e.: set TCl from 16 to 15, reboot, stress test. if successful, set from 15 to 14 and test again. if not successful, set back to 16, and continue with the next timing (in this case tRCD). as mentioned before, for all timings the rule of thumb is the lower the faster, except for tREFI where higher numbers are better. remember: RAM OC takes a looooot of time and proper stress testing is super important! since errors in RAM can cause all kinds of weird behaviour like BSODs, sudden shutoffs, system freezing, data loss/corruption, etc.
