  1. im not saying the cooling is definitely bad, no idea actually. but just the combination of a 3080 with such a slim chassis makes me skeptical. in general, most such gaming laptops nowadays just "accept" that the cpu runs into 100C throttling and the gpu is severely power limited while still running at 80C+. sure, it "works", but its not an experience id like to spend so much money on (even if 1800 USD in this context can be considered a good deal, its still 1800 USD = a LOT of money). also, u cannot compare the price of a whole system to individual mxm gpu pricing. its nothing new that by themselves, mobile gpus are insanely expensive. ud have to compare it with another complete system to make it valid. otherwise, compare the price of a mobo with soldered cpu & gpu to mobo/mxm gpu/desktop cpu individually, THEN u have a valid comparison again 🙂
  2. agreed on the good value proposition here. although full BGA and the seemingly super slim chassis would put me off 😅
  3. any specifics as to that windows update? did it contain a gpu driver or system bugfixes? glad it got resolved though!
  4. hmmm....two tests u should do: 1) do those black lines still show up when u boot into safe mode? i.e. without gpu driver or other software interfering? 2) seems like u only jumped between 30/60 and 300Hz. what happens if u go to, say, 240Hz? 120? 144? i.e. in between steps how old is your machine? might be the display cable (connection to the mobo) thats slowly giving out on you (not being able to provide sufficient bandwidth at 300 Hz anymore, thus the above suggestion with dialing it back just a tad, not necessarily down to 60 Hz....)
  5. aight dudes, just ordered a copper IHS upgrade kit with rockit cool, incl delid/relid kit and that removal paste for the intel sTIM. i figured we will definitely use it several times, starting with the 12600 now and later on with a 12900K and raptor lake successors 🙂 even with the 12600 itll surely pay off, since at present im not able to let it stay full bore at 4.4 Ghz all core indefinitely. with 10-15C less that would be a LOT closer to a realistic implementation! ill likely not relid the cpu but just use the socket clamp to hold the copper IHS in place. Gallinstan between the die and copper iHS and Kryonaut between IHS and heatsink is the plan (nope, not taking any chances with liquid metal on top of IHS in a laptop!). will update u guys once i got the kit in 🤠
  6. i dont get it...the 5950X is SO frugal when it comes to power, can completely stretch its legs at 125W with stock clocks (https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-ryzen-9-5950x/19.html). so why cripple it at 88W?!?! they already did that with the previous gen 3950X DTRs from Clevo, and now the same mistake again.... 125W is really not that much, a proper DTR should be able to take care of 150W for the CPU easily, if not more.... (as an example, the 5950X in the techpowerup review oced to 4.5 ghz all core draws 194W in multi threaded)
  7. Q4 is not too bad, just in time for nextgen cpus and gpus 😛 should be interesting!
  8. *grabs some popcorn while following this thread* keeping fingers crossed here! 🤠
  9. hahaha if it were up to me she'd just be upgraded from her previous LTSC 2019 to LTSC 2021. but nope, she wanted to go back to a "standard" windows version 😛 so win11 pro is what she got. second install runs smoothly now, debloated / decrapped everything and deactivated windows update 🙂 yeah man, with every new windows update it gets more and more tricky to get it lean... im shifting more towards pre-modded images like the one i used now (phoenix lite os, fitting name!), saves a lot of tuning work and nerves!
  10. Microsoft has also started testing experimental features for Windows 11 with the help of Insiders in the Dev Channel. Yesterday's Windows 11 Preview Build 25120 was the first one to introduce these features. More details on that here. Yep, Win 11 is the most secure Windows ever. And Microsoft try out a new way forcing you to use their Edge browser. Windows 11 and Teams got hacked several times during the first day of Pwn2Own 2022 During the first day of Pwn2Own Vancouver 2022, participants demonstrated various zero-day exploits and security loopholes in popular Microsoft products, such as Windows 11 and Teams. The new Windows 11 desktop search bar will make you use Edge @Mr. Fox @Ashtrix The latest Dev Channel Insider Preview Build came with an exciting new addition to the OS. However, using the new desktop search bar comes with a price many are unwilling to pay. Every search made through it will default to Edge, ignoring your already preselected browser. while i was doing the final touch ups on my lady's new machine with win11 pro, she kept insisting that i leave windows update intact and install all the latest updates as part of the setup. i recommended to at least wait a few weeks and delay any updates, but no dice. sooo i went ahead and....after the updates installed the system was shot LOL. no booting anymore, only BSODs and even after applying restore points the install was whacky. off to a fresh install now, lessons were learned (i hope) 😂
  11. u dont hear that every day @amd drivers muuuch better than nvidia LOL 😄
  12. surely nobody could stop us from just connecting the fans directly to the mobo instead of the pump? 😋 or is there some kinda gimmick that prevents the pump from switching on if u dont have the fans connected to it? 😅
  13. haha dont let up, get on their nerves! lettem know there are customers out there that want them to shut up and take their money! 😄 did some more testing, restricting the cpu to 45W doesnt make a difference for the GPU, still stuck at 130W. on the other hand, was able to push the CPU to 145W peak in CB, albeit at the cost of the machine shutting off due to overheating LOL. guess ill have to lower the PROCHOT option in TS from 100 to 98C to prevent such from happening again haha 😛 gpu stays cool though, max ive seen so far was 74-75C after repeated superposition runs. as for the battery life, i managed to implement an automatic power plan switching when disconnecting the AC adapter. that, coupled with some TS tweaks to limit cpu power and lowering screen brightness lets me eke out roughly 4.5-5 hours total runtime. not bad, especially considering that at stock ud get more like 1.5-2.5 hours lol
  14. https://eurocom.com/configure(2,404,0)ec you were saying....? 🤠
  15. as @papusan just mentioned, would be interesting to see how the arctic would fare with the corsair fans and vice versa. iirc the arctic rad is much thicker than its corsair colleague, so that leaves the pump and the fans as variables....unless of course the fin density is significantly different between the two rads? or the arctic cold plate is somehow skewed... in any case, congratz on that "open box" deal! 🙂
  16. naaaaaaaaais! and yeah those import taxes sure do hurt shopping sprees outside the EU haha 😛 let us know how it goes with the install and most importantly: how it performs ;)
  17. in the end this is more of an aesthetic thing, those stains will not interfere with cooling capabilities in the least 🙂
  18. possible for you to post your Bios/EC and vBios, while youre at it? I also uploaded my stuff 🙂 vBios is version 94.04.7F.00.87 Bios/EC: https://mega.nz/file/0TRXiQxK#vP047_mh9EzO_tDR6Kw1Fc6F6PCsjUQzGid8OFUDqkM vBios: https://mega.nz/file/4awFhApL#dxVDO68AMSEqMlY7HUox0bs6wq-c7lsemxwcaJZZPdE GPU is kinda interesting in my case, it hits around 1380-1500 Mhz with some super small spikes to 1785 Mhz here and there, seems to be temperature related. running unigine superposition in 8K optimized its constantly at around 130W total GPU power. i could maybe try and restrict the CPU power to check and see if the gpu would reach higher. btw, i should probably mentioned that ive got the XtremeG modded desktop drivers 512.59 installed. maybe that makes a difference: edit: did some more tweaking with TS, seems like i can restrict CPU power via clock modulation option, which allows me to drag it down to max. 15-18W. also, max. CPU power ive seen so far was 130W, was able to up the thermal throttling limit a bit to 90+C (with PROCHOT set to 100C).
  19. if i remember correctly, FN+D resets the bios (equivalent to a cmos pull), whereas FN+B reads the bios file from the usb stick. however, im not sure if u need to rename the bios file to a certain format for it to be recognized properly or not....
  20. sounds good. might be able to use the clevo Fn+B forced bios flash function before the system starts freaking out. otherwise, it might really be the mobo.
  21. it should. but if there is something corrupted in there the reset wouldnt do much.
  22. only option i could think of would be flashing directly to the chip...
  23. thats good info @gpu is working. might be a dumb question, but: has this GPU worked before in this machine? or is this a new upgrade? aside from that, can u also test all ram sticks and the cpu in another machine?
  24. in that case its likely a defective component... based on probability of failure id wager either gpu or mobo. are u still in warranty? can also try a cmos pull / bios reset, but i doubt thatll change anything...
