They may not care about selling the forum database but that doesnt mean I want to invite lawsuits either, otherwise this would've already taken place. It may still happen in the future but at the moment we still have plenty of action items to work on. If there is potential to easily remove the imported threads/legacy forum then we may give it a shot. Otherwise we would be forced to shut down the forum due to not being able to purge the data effectively and I dont have a pocketbook large enough to tackle that in court. The addition of the other forums would've taken place regardless of any period of time invested before launching this forum.

Sub-forum has been moved and notated just so I can update formally in the next announcement. As for petitioning TechTarget, thats not going to happen. They dont have any desire for the forums to begin with. We were lucky to have the cut off date extended and that I believe is solely due to efforts made by @Charles P. Jefferies to which I am eternally grateful. It would be more beneficial to determine whether or not its worth the risk of importing the "legacy" content into the forum.

4000 series set to be 150 percent faster than previous 3090
Reciever replied to ryan's topic in General Discussion
A contractor I was working with until recently (he quit) told me he spent like 5 grand on his desktop and was visibly angry that you dont need 1000w to run a 3090, or 128GB of sRAM to play Apex Legends. I mean if you have intention to use that power then more power to ya, but it just seems more wasteful than typical ePeen allowance. Im not sure where people get the crazy high numbers for their power requirements though. seems an oddity, but maybe thats due to me building ITX or using laptops. Its actually been a looooooong time since I used a Full Tower. -
Good Evening (or Morning?) everyone! There seems to be a little concern regarding what more we can do to encourage additional membership to the forums, I share some of those concerns of course considering mine and @Hiew's time and fiscal investment we have put in thus far. Of course would like for the forum to thrive as well, so we have some ideas on how to facilitate the first and most important element. You all! Chapter 1 First, some small things to get out of the way. I cant be counted on to have amazing idea's to put forth for the forum all the time and there will be some things that I may not see the merit for, key word being "seeing". There will be times where the community may need to get the point across, we have something in place for that, and I may enhance it a bit to give it proper exposure if need be. Site Suggestion Polls has been put in place. Now, I must stress this item. This is for the community and its individual members to put forth the best argument they can towards what they would like to have put in place. With that in mind, structure your argument and make it as clear as possible. The Site Suggestion Polls require approval before the threads will be created. If it looks to be anything but a genuine request for the forum to consider it will be rejected. Keep in mind that Site Suggestions arent limited to the Suggestion Box that @cucubits so kindly created in the earliest phase of the forum. You may use that sub-forum to better formulate an idea you may have amongst other members or the staff. Then make your pitch in the Site Suggestion Poll. Chapter 2 For the efforts made with the NBRchive, I have bestowed @Aaron44126, @Sandy Bridge, and @Hiew with the badge "Custodian of History". I know they didnt do it for acclaim or anything, but it should still be rewarded, in however meager way that I could that would stay with them, and can only be awarded manually. I recently spoke with Hiew, and he was quite baffled that most of his internet sleuthing regarding a Mobile Precision he was working with all roads led back to NoteBookReview. If not for the actions of the aforementioned, all that trial and error that eventually came to be known as knowledge would've been lost. Chapter 3 - How we may stand apart I have seen some rumblings about additional means to provide content to encourage additional membership to these forums. I must confess I haven't been able to put the time in that I originally intended. I have begun making some Framework for the first project that I have in mind. I will be reaching out to various members (provided they have time and are willing). I dont want to share too much at this stage, but know that we are working on something that I believe will set us apart from anything else, at the very least, that I have witnessed thus far. We may release an alpha stage product just so we can start cataloguing to later update as we learn more about what the forum's software can provide for us. Some of you are quite keen on keeping the momentum going, and I do appreciate that! Knowing where we come from, I do appreciate everyone's patience. Chris P.S. Announcement Discussion can be had here.

Gaming Laptop 1800cad or less no restrictions
Reciever replied to ryan's topic in What Laptop Should I Buy?
There is always diminishing returns as you run up the mountain. You would likely need to sell your current machine and then keep an eye out for a used listing. That or buy into the x170 and build it up over time. I have been liking what Lenovo has been putting out the past few years and it may be closer to what you might be looking for in terms of form factor. It would also help if you use the template so that people can properly look at the outlets you may or likely to consider buying from and pitch a proper deal. -
Yes I can understand most of the struggle. Its a bit odd of a problem as those types of titles like to harken back to what I like to call Mega Man era titles where most of the time the deciding factor of how a "fight" boils down to timing and a high level of patience before you get to have that reward of victory. Where as many titles today like to give the user many abilities like in Mega Man X, where you can wall jump, choose different armors, and abilities are more pronounced. Tempo's increased as well, its why those titles stand out for its unapologetic nature. Lately I have been getting some of that through God Of War with battling the Valkyries, the Queen soundly kicked my butt for a few hours before I put the game down to come work on more things for the forum.

What phone are you daily driving currently?
Reciever replied to Katja's topic in Mobile Devices & Gadgets
I didnt get it from a carrier, they are just making no effort to facilitate. I may just become more of a recluse and shut off the phone as I get more calls for the previous owner of this line (bill collectors) than anything for me personally. I mostly kept it because I didnt want to deal with my mother in the aftermath. -
I feel like the odd man out as I enjoyed demon souls quite a bit but never followed up with the dark souls entries. I have them, just haven't played them. Elden ring came out of left field for me but I haven't been able to look at the gaming landscape as much recently.

Between the two listings here, could make a top of the line machine easy Both of which I trust the sellers and even had pleasant dealings with @ssj92 in the past :)

Please do not quadruple post or share CD-keys in posts. If you intend to share CD-Keys then please do so via PM. Thanks I wish to keep the posting rules a little lax here due to the nature of the posts involved but that does not mean its open to abuse. Please use more discretion in this regard, Thanks! -
1 USB device to control minimum 32 machines?
Reciever replied to Reciever's topic in Desktop Hardware
Cant do anything to the client systems for local software so thats out. Over the network? Is it possible to inject keyboard commands that way? I was also thinking maybe I can build a dedicated box with just USB expansion cards, single them out via VM to passthrough to the client systems? Not my everyday type of request to be certain... @saturnotaku Just came across what will have to suffice. Was hoping for 2x 16 but the largest is 8. It looks to be able to support cascading (daisy chain) so in effect the result I want (assuming it works) https://www.newegg.com/p/1DJ-0033-00085 Other companies sell them under different names and such. -
Good Afternoon ladies and gents, I grow tired of re-training people all the time who basically quit a week later at work, so I have been trying to think of ways to accomplish this goal of lowering my labor time when it comes to production at work. Naturally, you cant just hook up 1 Keyboard to 32 systems even if you had spliced the wires up due to how Serial operates. Best I have been able to determine is would just not do anything. This sadly is exactly what I am trying to do for image deployments since a lot of configurations I run through are the same config over many systems often 48-300 per order, if I could run through all the systems at the same time as well as post Image QC it would free me up to handle other clients. Do you guys have any ideas? Maybe certain KVM's could do this? Or perhaps a ProxMox scenario to send the signal to the individual machines via USB? I cant change the overall process I have with this client, nor do I have any Admin access to their servers or client end user machines due to the regulations surrounding this client. Any help is wholly appreciated! Reciever

I would still be interested in a 13" laptop with an unlocked CPU and USB4. eGPU is great but companies tend to favor profits over actually delivering something truly useful. That all being said 3080 may be the last card I get for my frankenstein laptop.

Its also worth noting that in the 2.5" form factor drive Z heights can vary as well. The ones I have seen and experience with had 7mm, 9.5mm and 15mm

introduction How fast are you? Reaction time test See your potential
Reciever replied to ryan's topic in General Discussion
If its for FPS dont bother, there will always be someone faster. I focus on context and situational awareness more so than raw reaction times.- 55 replies

Reciever posted a topic in New here? Introduce Yourself
Hello everyone, thought I'd get the ball rolling here. My name is Chris, I go by the handle of Reciever or TheReciever. The handle is from the book called "The Giver", while the book was ok and movie, worse, I did like the idea of books title system and I also wanted a little something to remind me that I will always have something to learn. I learned quite a bit at OCN, but for reasons that escape me they were rather (and I dont like using this term anymore) bigoted towards the capabilities and potential laptops can provide with the right tools, knowledge and courage to follow them through. NotebookReview ended up being my home not long after 11,000 posts at OCN even when I went back to building desktops I stuck around, NBR was good company. Moved to Texas in '08 to find work, worked in retail until I decided it was not for me, got a dozen IT certs and got into IT. Not a fan of IT world either right now I serve a number of clients in Texas and might be looking to get into Linux as a principle. Havent made it there yet but well on my way to finally taking the plunge. Here's to many more posts, and if were lucky, a few shakeups along the way for the better. Here's to NBT, Cheers Chris- 2 replies

Good Evening ladies and gents, We have re-introduced a minor but very relevant template and sub forum. The "What Laptop Should I Buy" Form. I also felt it prudent to add a place where people can introduce themselves. Some of us had spent a lot of time over at NotebookReview and shared some details among colleagues or brothers in arms. New, old, if you are willing to share, share! All the best, Chris
