hmmm....could be several different things, actually. here is what u could test: - reseat CPU, GPU and RAM. make sure heatsink makes proper contact and that all contact pins are clean / intact. - test with only one stick of RAM. try it in different RAM slots. - check that all fans are connected and functioning properly.

looks like PCS customized version: Bios - 1.07.01TPCS (dated 11-Jan-2022) EC - 1.07.01 ME FW - 16.0.15.1620 could you re-confirm with your versions and dates for comparison? heatplate contact should at least not be slanted, since the cpu cores are within 2-4C of each other in terms of temps. however, ill do another check to ensure that the plate is actually close enough to the HS to apply sufficient pressure. no mux option in the bios, unfortunately. the bios is pretty barren overall, cant do much... preliminary findings after some initial tuning attempts: - Throttlestop will not let me do any voltage adjustments whatsoever, but i can tweak wattage limits a bit. highest ive seen so far was roughly 120W on the CPU (makes sense, Techpowerup's review of the 12600 noted a max power draw of 117W when wattage unlocked) - I can also not do any multi adjustment via TS, only disable the turbo. this is very disappointing, since i usually use TS to artificially throttle the CPU when on battery to prolong system lifetime... - I now have an idea why I am heat throttling so quickly: both cpu and gpu throttling limits seem to be set somewhere in the 80s C range, way too low to let the CPU stretch its legs properly. GPU however rarely even reaches 70C. - Intel XTU will not even install on the system! apparently it is not compatible... - no GPU core OC possible, i can only OC the vRAM. some quick testing revealed bench stable at +1500 Mhz, but +2000 Mhz crashed. looking good i would say! 😄 ha, this actually sounds like someone took a stock laptop and then modded it NBR / NBT style 😄 aside from the full BGA, well executed!

About Windows LTSC (Windows 10/11 Enterprise LTSC)

out of the two i would tend to get the latter, since IoT has a significantly longer support time range. functionally, theyre both the same.- 172 replies

definitely looking good so far, slow and steady 😊 -
alrighty, took me a good day and a half to sort the stuff with my machine not properly booting with only two ram sticks installed. i finally decided to do a cmos pull, at which point i was greeted with a black screen. weird enough, external screen DID actually show an output. in the end it turned out that either cpu or gpu werent properly reinstalled after i had done some maintenance and repasting, so did it all over again and now everything's back to normal. aaaaaaaaaanyhow, back to topic: making good progress in setting up my lady's machine, done with windows, drivers and most of the programs & games. what ive noticed though: holy guacamole 12th gen runs HOT! 😱 like, wtf? the 12600 shes got installed is at PL1 90W and PL2 150W in perf. mode (full stock for now, no tuning yet via TS), and easily hits 90C+ with thermal throttling under load with clocks around 4.2-4.4 ghz. really wondering if i messed up the repaste with kryonaut or if theres an issue with cold plate contact, hmmm....lets finish the setup first, then ill check what can be done. in any case, the fans get LOUD once the cpu hits full bore, my lady aint gonna like that 😅

*Official Benchmark Thread* - Post it here or it didn't happen :D
jaybee83 replied to Mr. Fox's topic in Desktop Hardware
rofl, i totally got that reference @editorial direction change 😁 also, i like where this is going with the accelero, keep us updated on that bro 😉😋 -
haha its indeed good to be back in full force! i just installed the modded 512.54 desktop driver by XtremeG on my lady`s new machine sporting the 3070M Ti, seems to be running smoothly, so for now no need to update. besides, the upcoming Prema magic will do much more than just another broken driver update 😄
-
word. best tactic with windows updates is to delay them a few weeks / months and only then install them (if at all). been running like that for years now and no issues whatsoever 🙂 @Aaron44126 currently setting up my lady's new machine (Clevo NH55JNNQ) and installed a modded WIn11 by this group here: https://phoenixliteos.com/ anyone tried them before? i chose their WIn11 Pro Plus build version 22000.652 and i must say i am very pleased! super small install size, very low ram usage and basically no cpu cycles used up and all tweaks n options that i usually add to my win installs already implemented. add to that that its free since the project is based on donations only. you should check them out and give them a try 🙂

its sad that Intel does not allow those additional 4 OC bins anymore on non-K mobile chips. the recent trends are a bit worrying, even undervolting is being blocked nowadays, ugh... but in any case, this same fact makes playing around with older gen hardware all the more fun. enjoy, guys 🙂
-
another NBR veteran, welcome to NBT 😁 be sure to rock the Alienware forums here mate 😋😉
-
yep, although eurocom is surely not the most price competitive out there, they definitely carved out a niche for themselves in terms of providing quick n easy upgrade packages for DTR laptops (mostly Clevo). that lets them stand out from the crowd for sure, so they want to be certain they provide the service that goes with it to not lose their (finicky, but enthusiast) customer crowd 😛
-
thanks man, appreciate the motivational booster, makes it fun 🙂 next step is to get my system stable with two RAM sticks first, since ill rely on it to reset the SSD and do troubleshooting whenever required. after that ill get to installing windows / driver / programs / games on the new machine and do baseline benches and thermal testing. THEN i can ping brother Prema and we can get this show on the road 🤠

cool man, glad you're taken care of 🙂

aight, i figured before i forget all the thicknesses lets do this real quick 😛 here we go (numbers indicate mm thickness): 1 and 4 mm are "native" pads, whereas for 2mm i just stacked 1mm pads, works just fine 🙂 blues are arctic, light grey is fujipoly extreme 17W/mK and dark grey is Phobya Ultra. in case youre wondering, i prioritized the leftover fujipoly extreme pads for the gpu vRAM and then switched to arctic (performance wise, arctic lies between fujipoly 11 and 14 W/mK) once i ran out 😄 here some additional pics, first up the overview after disassembly and cleaning: unfortunately, tri-pod assembly for the gpu cold plate 🙄 but the cooling system itself looks quite robust and capable, looking forward to stress testing it! here a close up of GPU, CPU and power delivery: shiny! 😁 lastly, the stock arrangement of thermal pads, cheap-ass stuff which wasnt even properly covering all compoents its supposed to cool: rule of thumb for proper thermal pad application: DO NOT cut and place the thermal pads based on the cooling plate but rather on the ACTUAL COMPONENTS being cooled! most times the cold plate is a bit shorter than the component and thus doesnt cover it whole, so best to at least cut and place the pads in such a way that they cover the whole component. better than parts of them being left "naked" and not being heatsinked at all. example: look at the image directly above, notice how the thermal pad on the lower right corner (behind the stamped date) is only covering "one and a half" vRAM modules? yep, so basically half of one vRAM module was left completely naked with that setup. compare that to the equivalent vRAM chips shown on the first picture after repadding, theyre all properly and completely covered. aight, nuff said for now, off to dreamland! cheers guys

nah no issue, just a habit of mine to hunt down the most updated driver packages for a fresh install 🙂 thx for confirming. yeah ikr @cant tell it sports desktop socket, its significantly smaller and lighter than my P751DM, pretty amazing! ok so driver hunting is done and i also built the system together with my lady, just finished repadding the whole thing, might as well do it while its disassembled (we all know how crappy stock thermal pads are, both in terms of thermal conductivity and also placement!) i used fujipoly extreme, arctic and phobya extreme pads for replacement. thicknesses required were 1, 2 and 4 mm. also took some pics and will detail the position and thickness of all the thermal pads, might help other users here if they decide to do some performance maintenance 🙂 one weird thing i encountered: i took two of my ddr4-3800 sticks out of my machine to give them to my gf (thus 16GB each), but now with two sticks my machine doesnt wanna boot the memory profile anymore lol. in theory, two sticks should actually run better than four, but my system only posts the custom memory profile with all four sticks, at 2 it shows blackscreen 😄 will need to figure out a new profile i guess... but now time to hit the sack, cheers!

linux NVIDIA takes first step toward open source Linux GPU drivers
jaybee83 replied to saturnotaku's topic in Linux / GNU / BSD
now my first question: what does nvidia get out of it? with the green goblin, always follow the money, they never do anything out of the "goodness of their heart" 😋 -

agreed, thats what i try to keep telling ppl who go all hype and want to "invest" into crypto. its not backed by anything except belief, might as well go to church instead, would likely have a healthier mental bump than these imaginary coins. sure, some might say that fiat money is the same, i.e. imaginary or that the stock market in general is also only based on belief. but both is only partly true, because both are based on something everyone can relate to: real economies, real companies with employees, real work being done, real goods and services being exchanged. and crypto? it goes poof, comes out of nowhere (= being "mined" via solving artificial equations that dont lead to anything except burning as much electricity as whole countries), is based on the "belief" that one might "get rich quick" (gotta love those schemes, eh?) and then disappears into the night during the next crash as if it was never there. and SUDDENLY people bitch around that theyre gonna be homeless and lost their life savings?!?! like, seriously? NEVER invest NON-disposable income! investing is by definition disposable because of inherent risks involved. sorry for the rant, but from my side there is absolutely NO feeling sorry for the idiots jumping onto such hype trains and spending basically their whole material existence on...well....nothing! 😅 oh and please dont start with "currency of the future! decentralized! anonymous! power to the people!" BS. as if anyone is using crypto as actual currency, its basically just digital chips being gambled in a global casino... 😅 -

(n)ice! do the lower temps help with stability / oc on the ram? also how far up do u dare to go with the vdimm on ddr5? 1.575 is already quite impressive 😅would be like 1.72V on ddr4... -
haha i just decided its not worth the wait. if the need / want arises down the line, ill just get the screen from aliexpress / ebay and do the upgrade myself 😉 @win32asmguy hey man, which version of control center do u have? i found 3.70 as the latest, u got anything newer? currently driver hunting here... also does your machine have a fingerprint sensor?
