  1. 93rd percentile? shame on you, throw away that garbage hardware, aint worth nothin, top 1 % or go home 😂
  2. LOL yep, the mobile gpu landscape is a total mess... basically, every single gpu in every single laptop chassis behaves completely different due to stringently tight power and temperature envelopes. 3060s and 3070s that are faster than 3080s and 3080 Tis, its a total chaos. and then u end up with like 20 different sub skus of every mobile gpu, total facepalm. its a pain even for enthusiasts like us to maintain proper overview of all the different performance tiers...
  3. have a close look at the card, check for any abnormal SMDs, black stains, anything that might indicate a broken component. also, if possible, try the card in another machine to see if it still works.
  4. i havent done any proper checking of it yet, i assume the more massive copper IHS is more resistant to warping than the stock IHS. the thermal paste application looks ok from what i can gather. but of course, best way to check would be to compare perf and temps with and without the contact frame 😄
  5. kool man, good luck on the sale!
  6. no dice, there are two issues: 1) there is barely any room to maneuver to actually get a grip on those screws, even with the tiniest of pliers. 2) ill need those screws again when installing the contact frame, which sports ingressed holes, so again basically zero room to get a grip on those screws, let alone do exact screwing, since u require a narrow window of torque to avoid any issues with pin contact...
  7. just wait and see i guess. if nobody bites, u can always lower the price a bit 🙂 or allow best offer and see what comes in!
  8. Time for some tinkering 🤠 edit: aaaaand THATS why you should always do your homework BEFOREHAND, kids! only after disassembly and while taking off the copper IHS did i notice that the screws fastening the ILM to the mobo are NOT the same as on desktop boards, thus the included key aint compatible *facepalm* they look like some kinda hexagonal "screw-nuts", where ud need a tool to get a grip from the outside 🤨 guess ill have to put this endeavour on ice....ugh
  9. 980M MXM = 285€ 970M MXM = 135€ Based on worldwide, recently sold items on ebay (avg pricing). so in NBT community terms would probably be more like 250 and 115, respectively 😄
  10. yep, and THATS the reason i despise any kind of "online content", be it movie/tv show streaming, online game shops like Steam or music shops like spotify and the like. mark my words, guys: YOU DO NOT OWN ANY OF THAT MATERIAL! you are just renting / leasing it and can lose it anytime one of the companies behind those platforms feels like taking it away from you. thus, i keep absolutely everything, be it games, tv shows, movies, music, etc LOCALLY under my full control. also just using cloud services for quick n dirty transfer of stuff but NOT as archives or backup locations.... /rant 😛
  11. global warming FTW! grab your sunscreens, umbrellas, sun glasses and BBQ pits 😛
  12. just in case u want a ready-made solution for win10 and win11 in lite flavour, check out this team: https://phoenixliteos.com/ have installed it on my lady's machine and must say very happy so far!
  13. back in asia the argument was to "spare flight attendant backs and reduce risk of passenger injury" while handling heavy carry-on luggage....seems like laptops arent the only thing thats gotten thin light n flimsy 😛 😄
  14. haha main reason is practicality in terms of compatible psu connector. we know that the stock 230W, a 280W and now the newly discovered 330W psu models have a compatible barrel connector for our machines. that 780W monster would have to be modded in order to fit 😛 besides, well also need to first deactivate the EC power limits, otherwise the machine just shuts off once it reaches a certain total wattage. lets see how far we can push this thing before it catches fire 😛 well lets see what we can put together here from this thread alone: youve got your homework cut out for ya, son! 😉
  15. ah, that brings back memories of 48C days in Hyderabad with the ceiling fan in my room broken. had to get up at night and splash my body with water to be able and continue sleeping 😄 good times!

    Astronomy

mindblowing indeed....like the fact the FIRST exoplanet they focus on with JWST is a jupiter like hot beast with a superfast 3-day orbital period around its host star and guess what? they found friggin water, like....wth 😄 https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/goddard/2022/nasa-s-webb-reveals-steamy-atmosphere-of-distant-planet-in-detail
  17. 145 😛 issue being the sustained loads, not the max though. the delid, liquid metal and copper IHS combo provided thermal headroom for another +340 Mhz, im hoping i can get another 100-150 Mhz with the TG contact frame. should be here by the end of this week. after that, im hoping for undervolting capabilities with Prema's help. were currently waiting for some software bugfixes before we can proceed....
  18. people who like to "gamble"? 😄
  19. thats a tough one since the market for it is so super small.... i looked around ebay and it seems like M18X mobos (irrespective of their R generation due to small sample size) go for about 300 to 600€ with an average of 430€. complete machines average roughly 780€ ranging 600 to 1100€. so with that in mind id say 300 - 450€ does make sense. but again, very limited sample size! so just a rough guesstimate from my side 🙂
  20. LOL thats a hell of a backstory on why u love your alienware, glad ure still with us man! soooooo....what happened with the nurse? 😁
